This Weeks Flight for Wednesday 15th December 2021 Flight created by Dan Mckee Altiports Tour in French Alps with challenging airports of Alpes d'Huez, Meribel and Coucheval, all having upward sloping runways. My tip for landing is to know the runway altitude and land slightly GAINING altitude. If you land descending you will contribute your undercarriage to the local environment!!!! Note the necessary full stops and turn arounds at Alpes d'Huez and Meribel Flying the waypoints avoids some of the high altitudes and resultant steep descents which can complicate the approach to the sloping runways. This Weeks Flight on 10th November 2021 is a flight covering most of the The Torres Strait which is a strait between Australia and the Melanesian island of New Guinea. It is 151 km wide at its narrowest extent and comprises some 274 small islands and atolls. To the south is Cape York Peninsula, the northernmost extremity of the Australian mainland. To the north is the Western Province of Papua New Guinea. 14 of the islands are inhabited by indigenous Torres Strait Islanders who comprised five cultural groups. The political administration is a bit complicated with various functions administered by the Torres Strait Regional Authority which is a statutory authority of the Australian federal government and some community services administered by Queensland. In the words of Monty Python..”and now for something completely different”. This weeks flight 21st July 2021 takes us on a tour of numerous lighthouses off the south coast of Finland. The flight needs to be flown low albeit at approx. 150kias. There is adequate scenery for both X-Plane and MSFS2020 so please refer to links hereunder. We depart from Mariehamn (EFMA) on the Finnish autonomous territory on the island of Aland and fly over some lighthouses with a T&G at Hanko (EFHN) on the edge of the mainland. From there we continue past more lighthouses (I know, MFL) to the capital Helsinki where the flight finishes (pun intended) at the main Helsinki GA Airfield of Malmi (EFHF).
