In the words of Monty Python..”and now for something completely different”. This weeks flight 21st July 2021 takes us on a tour of numerous lighthouses off the south coast of Finland. The flight needs to be flown low albeit at approx. 150kias. There is adequate scenery for both X-Plane and MSFS2020 so please refer to links hereunder. We depart from Mariehamn (EFMA) on the Finnish autonomous territory on the island of Aland and fly over some lighthouses with a T&G at Hanko (EFHN) on the edge of the mainland. From there we continue past more lighthouses (I know, MFL) to the capital Helsinki where the flight finishes (pun intended) at the main Helsinki GA Airfield of Malmi (EFHF). The author has been requested to formulate flights following the route of the Tour de France Bicycle race however the race comprises some 18+ stages which are too many to fly. Rather the author will select a few stages that may comprise other interesting scenery (depending on your simulation program). This Weeks Flight on 14th July 2021 includes stage 13 of the Tour de France and will include some scenery highlights depending upon simulator being used.. The plan starts at Nimes (LFTW) and then south to Arles overflying the famous Roman Amphitheatre in the middle of town. The flight will fly back to the city of Nimes to overfly another Roman Amphitheatre and then join the actual starting point for Tour de France on outskirts of Nimes. The flight concludes at Salvaza (LFMK) which is the airport servicing Carcassone a large medieval fortified city. It will be well worth downloading Carcassone scenery for MSFS2020 and X-Plane 11. This Weeks Flight on 30th June 2021 finds us in Aotearoa (New Zealand) following the TranszAlpine Railway departing Christchurch (NZCH) to the end of the line at Greymouth (NZGM). This Weeks Flight on 23rd June 2021 finds us in the Cormoros Islands which lay off the east coast of Mozambique north of Madagascar. We will depart from Prince Said Ibraham Int'l FMCH which lies on the northern island of Grand Comore and we will fly past the active volcano Karthala which last erupted in 2006. You will need to climb to approx 9,000ft to view the large caldera at the summit. The challenge is to climb fast enough to arrive at the summit. It is recommended to do the climb along the west coast then turn east over the summit and then resume flight plan to Bandaressalam FMCI on the island of Moheli and on to Ouani FMCV on the island of Anjouan and on to our final destination at Dzaoudzi FMCZ on the island of Mayotte . Technically the island of Mayotte is not part of the Union of the Comoros and the island remains controversialy part of France despite objections at the United Nations where France uses it's power of veto to prevent a veto by the UN. This Weeks Flight on 2nd June 2021 finds us in France where we will fly from Aix-Les-Bains (LFLB) to airfields commonly referred to as Altiports which are in effect gateways to the skying resorts in the Alps. We fly east across the alps to the mountain range known as Mont Blanc and the flight will finish at the very challenging Courchevel (LFLJ). Before Courchevel the stop at Meribel which is also challenging, is a full stop, turn around and departure to arrive in Courcheval. The flight commences at Rendani (WASR) situated near the provincial capital Manokwari at the top western part of West Papua will depart to the south and fly a clockwise back to Rendani (WASR). This is believed to be a challenging flight to test skills although there is no compulsion to complete T&G's, that is at pilot's discretion. Flight time appears short at 41 minutes however allowance has been made for location of airfields. Following the E6 then west on the I5 at Otta continue on the I5 after taking right fork at LOM then follow the I5 along the Ottaelva River north west and take left fork at Langvatner Lake continue along I5 to Lake Strynevatnet and follow river and lakes to destination Sundane.
