This is a high altitude VFR flight and includes a VFR route over Mexico City and within MMMX airspace so attention must be paid to altitude limits as detailed on this link Visual Approach Chart. The altitudes circled in red are the maximum VFR altitudes permitted. This Weeks Flight for Wednesday 11th May 2022 takes us to Austria flying a VFR training route from Zell am See (LOWZ) to Wiener Neustadt Ost (LOAN). Flight suggested by David Bromage This is a real life VFR training route in eastern Austria. It's based around Wiener Neustadt Ost (LOAN) airport which is the home of Diamond Aircraft Industries (their main factory) and several flight schools. There is quite a strict approach to this airport due to military airspace to the west and the main Vienna airport (LOWW) to the north. The route uses prominent landmarks such as churches and castles, but also some encoded VFR waypoints (shown in the flight plan). Most of these points relate to entry and exit points for circuits. Airfields along the route with circuits include Niederoblarn (LOGO) Aigen im Ennstal (LOXA) Trieben (LOGI) Leoben (LOGT) Kapfenberg (LOGK) where you can either T&G or just fly the circuit at altitude and keep going it is up to you. This Weeks Flight for Wednesday 9th March 2022 takes us to the Caribbean flying an island hop from Point-a-Pitre in French Gaudeloupe (TFFR) to the famous Princess Juliana Int'l in the Netherlands (TNCM). Highlights will be two of the most dangerous airfields in the world, Gustaf III Airport (TFFJ) on St Barthelemy Island with a very steep arrival and the other being Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport (TNCS) on the island of SABA which is only 400 metres in length. Approaches in to Gustaf III Airport (TFFJ) can use either rwy 10 (left hand pattern) or rwy 28 (also left hand pattern). The arrival using rwy 10 is very steep which makes it quite dangerous. NB: rwy 28 can only be used for full stop arrivals so any T&G's will have to use rwy 10, the steep one). It is to be noted that if a full stop even on rwy 28, all departures must use only rwy10. Airport is open to all traffic however note aircraft type required. Refer following link for details. This weeks flight will require pilots "to walk like an Egyptian" and will continue a flight "down" the river Nile from Luxor (HELX) where we will take a detour to view the Valley of the Kings. Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and then rejoin the Nile at wpt01 and continue on past wpt03 Kom Ombo Temple complex arriving at Aswan (HESN) where we will "see" the mighty Aswan Dam wall.
