This Weeks Flight for Wednesday 9th March 2022 takes us to the Caribbean flying an island hop from Point-a-Pitre in French Gaudeloupe (TFFR) to the famous Princess Juliana Int'l in the Netherlands (TNCM).
Highlights will be two of the most dangerous airfields in the world, Gustaf III Airport (TFFJ) on St Barthelemy Island with a very steep arrival and the other being Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport (TNCS) on the island of SABA which is only 400 metres in length.
Approaches in to Gustaf III Airport (TFFJ) can use either rwy 10 (left hand pattern) or rwy 28 (also left hand pattern). The arrival using rwy 10 is very steep which makes it quite dangerous. NB: rwy 28 can only be used for full stop arrivals so any T&G's will have to use rwy 10, the steep one). It is to be noted that if a full stop even on rwy 28, all departures must use only rwy10. Approaches into SABA (TNCS) can use either rwy 12 (Lefthand pattern) or Rwy 30 (Right hand pattern). Runways both have an “X” at each end however this just represents the fact that the airport is closed to all but specific licenced traffic. Refer following link for details.
