@Callum - so when a controller/ATIS says QNH XXXX we do not set that on the altimeter subscale?

You can set that manually via the Pressure knob. (Each aircraft is different). If you're running FSX/P3D, the shortcut command is the letter "b".

    This Week

This week, come and help the airlines of Western Australia deliver their FIFO workers to locations around the state. The resource industry sees hundreds of flights a week across Western Australia by Alliance, Cobham, Qantas, QantasLink, Skippers, Virgin Australia and Rex. With some amazing scenery for airports across the entire state, why not get involved and check some of them out!

We recommend using the Airservices Route Guide to ensure you're using an acceptable route. Simply scroll to page 31/32 to see information for routes departing Perth. :)

One thing that felt a little awkward from my perspective was the handover, which more or less was left up to fate from my perspective - I hope it didnt cause any issues for the incoming DEP controller (also Cian!). It would be nice to have a procedure in place for a smooth handover that has zero, or low impact on pilots, and settles the incoming controller into the total situation smoothly and rapidly. A verbal briefing would be ideal, but problematic WRT current client limitations on G2G comms. TS or similar would be functional, Discord also workable if the policy situation were resolved.

    Hi Bill,

Good controlling practice includes conducting a handover between the outgoing and incoming controller. This can be facilitated over Discord and we have recently added additional coordination channels to allow for this.

  4. Congratulations to the Cam's! @Cameron Wilbraham @Cam Tyson who received this positive feedback today.

On behalf of the virtual black falcons I would like to thank Cam Tyson on Melbourne approach and  Cameron Wilbraham in Melbourne center for their excellent ATC service this evening. We flew across from East Sale to Melbourne in formation and called up once Melbourne center once airborne and reported our intentions and he coordinated with Approach for our arrival early on so no stress for us.  Once again, excellent ATC service so thank you very much.

Keep up the amazing work Gents!

On Milkrun Monday, during a very busy time in Melbourne, I decided I really wanted to mess things up by doing a touch and go in a C172. Except, Ryan was on APP and handled it like a boss. 10 aircraft in his airspace all on the LIZZI arrival for 16 and I was over the CBD. He managed to separate us all and slotted me in for a touch and go. He was on top of everyone and no one asked for clarifications. Impeccable job.

    This Week

This week, we're heading to Rockhampton. Explore the Queensland outback flying GA, rip down in a Dash 8 from Cairns or fly a jet from further South. There are plenty of possibilities for fun!

Rockhampton is a Regional Queensland airport with direct services to Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville and Mackay. They see a mixture of Jets and Props which makes this airport busy enough to have a Tower and ground controller.

    Hi All,

As discussed on Discord and during the Town Hall, we will be conducting a trial over the next 4-8 MRM's to assess the feasibility of rostering controllers. The outcome we want to achieve is to more fairly share around who gets a controller position, ensure coverage of at least TMA's and Centre's until 10PM AEST for our WA members and to allow more traffic instead of having people waiting around for an ATC position.

The first week will be on the 08th of June and bookings are available now by visiting our events site. http://vats.im/au/mrm. The roster will be published on Saturday or Sunday night prior to the event and will go up for bookings each Tuesday after the event. If you are no longer able to control, please email [email protected] and we will roster someone else.

There will be two time slots. 1800-2000 AEST and 2000-2200 AEST.

It's important to note, we won't be notifying individuals of their rostered times. It is your responsibility to check the roster. Members who don't turn up or don't remain for their allocated slot (within reason, life happens) will not be rostered for a Milk Run for at least 2 weeks. This is to reward members who stick around and act as a deterrent for leaving early/not rocking up without notification.

We'll publish the results of the trial including measurements of traffic numbers, controller coverage and trends of any feedback collected over the course of the trial.

Additionally, if you'd like to file any feedback over the course of the trial, we encourage you to use our google form here http://vats.im/au/mrmfeedback

Thanks for the discussion and feedback which lead to the trial and I look forward to seeing and hearing the results.

Sorry for the last minute notice however, we recently received a request to run some ATC for a planned newbie night for some old and new VATPAC members. These experienced real world aviators are ready to take to the Virtual skies with ATC after conducting plenty of offline flying. We thought it was a great idea and want to invite everyone who is willing to share their knowledge or who wants to learn!

Whether you've been flying for years or never connected, it'll be the night for you with plenty of people available to help on the VATPAC Discord.

    The Requirements:

    - ATC who are willing to teach and have patience

    - Pilots who are also patient but would love to share knowledge or learn something knew

    This Week

This week, fly from Hobart to Adelaide and experience Class D Procedural airspace, enroute and Class C arrival airspace. The flight will depart around 1900 AEST with ATC requested/available from around 1830 AEST.

An example of departing a Class D Procedural aerodrome with a TWR is located here https://vatpac.org/pilots/tutorials/ifr-albury-to-melbourne/

    This Week

In case you weren't available for the Panic Stations Fix, this week we're moving up the coast to sunny Bris-Vegas where we have just had major changes to the airspace. Where before the airspace was somewhat of a sensible, well-laid out airspace; we are left with what is literally a birds-nest of SIDs and STARs. Bring along your new Navigraph AIRAC to explore the changes. If you don't have one, you can get a Navigraph subscription here https://navigraph.com/SubscriptionOptions.aspx (FMS Data, Charts or both are available via subscriptions).

Please note ATC will not be assigning runway 19R/01L unless requested. This is due to the lack of updated scenery in some simulators and the fact the runway isn't open yet.

We also are highly encouraging anybody who would like to come and fly VFR in Class D (Archerfield – YBAF, and Sunshine Coast – YBSU), Class G (note the new airspace lower limits), or even Class C (fancy some city orbits?). Again, VATPAC staff will be present to answer any questions you might have.

It's a must read for anyone wanting to fly in/out! :D

  13. Until advised otherwise, provide a service to 18/36. It would need to be either RNAV, VOR or VISUAL approaches as these plates still exist in the latest AIRAC update.

For aircraft with new scenery, there are approach plates for the new runway also.

  14. Hi Joe,

As you've previously linked a Discord account, you are unable to link a newly created one. This is to stop people leaving the server after getting banned and simply creating and linking a new Discord account. Do you still have access to your old Discord account? If not, I'd recommend contacting IT to have your previous account manually removed.

  15. G'day Lionel,

I'm sorry to hear you won't have access to your normal computer for the next few months. VATSIM supports PC, MAC and LINUX through compatible pilot clients only and doesn't support other consoles.

I hope you'll be able to work something out :)
