  1. This is absolutely devastating :(  My sincerest condolences to his family.

Quigs your contributions and advice to this community, and myself personally was always humbly appreciated as I mentioned to you several times. Your humour was second to none and it will be strange not hearing you and your witty remarks  on the radio waves anymore.

For those who didn't know, Richard came in during a difficult time for the Division as Acting Director, Operations and oversaw several changes and assisted with the updating of much of our operations documentation in the recent years. He provided a great deal of guidance and advice to the younger Board members over time which has always been incredibly invaluable. You will be missed by the entire community.

    Rest Easy.

Was more taking the piss out of the map display on their site. It purports to depict the boundaries of the locations covered by their service, and omits Kangaroo island, as shown above. I suspected it would in fact be covered, but Im glad to see we can confirm that.

If it isn't on the map, it isn't there ;)

  4. Hi All,

Friday Night Live was created in response to the significant increase in demand on the Network due to COVID19. This demand has dropped as members of the community return to work, social gatherings and other activities. As such, we've noticed a reduction in flying for FNL over the past 3-4 weeks. From this week onwards, we'll be looking at changing it to Fortnightly rather than weekly. This may further be reduced if we continue to see a lack of participation from both ATC and Pilots but we'll try and keep it going as long as possible :D

In addition, given the success of our Previous newbie night, we'll be putting some more together with an eventual aim to at minimum, 1 per month. These are a great way for people to step out of their comfort zone and get proficient before joining our bigger and busier events. We are looking at a variety of Newbie Nights including Class D and GA operations. We'd love to see some new and familiar faces participating and passing down knowledge to our newer members.

As always, thank you to everyone who participates in our events! :D

    Thanks,

    Callum

  6. Hi All,

I seem to find myself apologising once again for emails that appear to have been sent by me titled "Welcome to VATPAC".

Due to another VATSIM Technology issue, users were missing from a regular data pull which our membership system relies on to determine new users. When the database updated this morning, all the users returned meaning it thought people had joined the Division. When a member joins our Division, they get an email automatically which is why these members, some who have been with VATPAC since its inception, received emails. This appears to have only affected a particular range of VATSIM ID's. There has been no comment from VATSIM to the Division on why this has occurred on either occasion.

The VATNZ I.T Team who administrates the automated email system is investigating how to stop this occurring. I apologise for any inconvenience.

  8. Hi Ryan,

The most appropriate time to use PDC is when conducting Top-Down operations at an aerodrome. It can become incredibly busy and PDC is one less thing you need to worry about because you can send it when you're ready and when you have time.

In your Euroscope folder you'll have an Alias Guide which tells you all of the commands built to our Euroscope Profiles C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\EuroScope\VATPAC\Data\Documents

For PDC, begin by filling in the flightplan as normal (SID/Runway/Initial Climb). You'd then open a PM with the pilot, type .PDC and click spacebar. This will put the script in and pull the data you've put in from your flight plan. There is a couple of things it usually has trouble putting in and that's the frequencies. If you click Tab, it should jump to the next field you need to fill in. Alternatively, jump to where it says Departure Frequency and fill it in manually. Otherwise, that's it :)

Just wanted to provide my personal opinion on the matter. I think that reserving ATC positions for MRM is a great initiative as it allows many controllers to participate without connecting many hours in advance. With that said, I also think that there were too many non-standard positions available. In Sydney for example, SY_DEP, SY_APP, SY-D_APP were on the roster for the entirety of the event. I was assigned ML-WOL_CTR for the first two hours and SY_APP for the final two hours. Traffic levels in the final two hours in my personal opinion didn't require three controllers to operate the TMA, especially when accounting for the competence of VATPAC controllers. I therefore, remained logged on for the first hour during which there were about 3 arrivals and 3 departures and after one hour logged off as I really didn't see the need for so many controllers. I was then 'punished' for not staying the entire time and was lowered in priority for assignments to the Real Ops event. I completely understand the logic of this as it is important to assure that controllers show to their assignments. However, in this specific scenario and perhaps also in preparation for future MRM events I think it would be preferable to assign only APP & DEP positions with SY-D only opening up if traffic truly calls for it.

    What are your thoughts?

    Hi Avi,

I totally understand the frustration and I think we can better work to find the right balance here. I think the key importance is to let the Staff Team know that you're leaving because of lack of traffic and we can go from there. Our concern with only opening up SY-D during events is that it may be unfair because it isn't necessarily being shared around.

We'll have a look this week at traffic levels and continue tweaking the event over the trial to ensure better and fairer coverage.

    Cheers,
    Callum

  10. Hi All,

It's with sadness I inform the community of the resignation of our Events Director, Sam Hall.

Sam came into the Division at a difficult time and has been responsible for bringing the community together through our events for close to two years! This is not an easy job and I think we can all agree, there have been some great events over the past 18 months.

Sam, on behalf of the VATPAC Community, I'd like to thank you for your contribution! :)

Sam will remain on the Board as the Director, Events until a new Director is recruited.

    Thanks,

  12. Hi Joe,

The pressure is purely based on the actual conditions in the sim. If you're not running any weather engines, you should leave it set to standard (29.92/1013) as setting it to anything else would give you incorrect pressure altitude readings.
