I'm sure we could make it work by providing that information in a briefing to controllers Rusty! I'd love to see another Major VFR Event

A massive thanks to @Bishoy megally and @Cameron Wilbraham who recently received this feedback from a couple of pilots! Keep providing the amazing Aussie service
QuoteJust to say that the ATC control provided by Cameron Wilbraham and Bishoy Megally is just awesome, so friendly and professional at the same time... Just awesome. Thank you very much.
QuoteI´m form Portugal and I belong on A VA(virtual aviatiom), which is flying around the world, we are at Australia now and i would like to say that the controllers are really good and really really friendly, i just would like to say to pay attention at this guy which is all day supporting our flights with centre ( Cameron Wilbraham), and to this guy that was ,as well, really friendly( Bishoy Megally) have a great day!

A massive congratulations and thanks to @Clem Wu and @Tracy Shiffman who recently received this feedback. Keep being amazing lads!
QuoteBoth controllers did an outstanding job. Very nice, and they know what they are doing. I am a S3 in the New York ARTCC in the states, and they provided better service then some controllers in the New York Area. Super Nice, and inviting. Would love to speak to them again!

Hi Alan,
Our email system felt that members with ID's starting with 8 and 9, in addition to those above 146 needed to feel the love again so decided to welcome you to the Division.
It would appear this was due to an issue collecting the latest data from VATSIM. I apologise for the technical glitch.

Congrats to Tom Dunphy who recently demonstrated his competency and smashed his S3 exam! Great work

Hi Everyone,
It's been observed that incorrect SIDs and STARs have been allocated more commonly lately and we wanted to issue a friendly reminder. When choosing what SID to put an aircraft on, sometimes, a little more research is required than simply looking for a waypoint that lines up.
If using ATC assist, it's important to check the details of the SID. We can see that after selecting DOSEL, I am presented 3 options. The most appropriate for a Jet would be DOSEL1 which is available for runway 16, 27 and 34. As indicated by the "J", it's Jet only. This means that even if an aircraft that is non-jet files via DOSEL, we cannot clear them on the DOSEL1 departure and must look for an alternative.
Also worth a mention, apart from the Melbourne 5 departure, all SIDs at Melbourne are Jet. This means that you should be assigning ML5 departures to all non-jet aircraft departing, regardless of whether they are routing via one of the waypoints on a SID.
What happens if ATC assist doesn't look right?
You can locate all of the Australian charts on the Airservices Australia website located here http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/current/dap/AeroProcChartsTOC.htm
Coordination Requirements
Don't forget that aircraft who don't qualify for auto-release cannot be given a departure clearance without coordinating when a position to coordinate with is online. You can find information on auto-release procedures specific to our major airports in the Local Instructions here https://vatpac.org/operations/documents/
Thanks

It's last minute but with such a fast changing real world environment, we need to move quickly to keep up! Welcome back to VATPAC's newest event series, Friday Night Live!
We're bringing you some Friday Night Entertainment that the pubs and clubs can't! Visit a new location or perhaps an old favourite, the possibilities are endless. This Week
This week, we're visiting Tassie! Fly from Melbourne down to Tassie and explore some beautiful scenery, procedural ATC and if the forecast holds up, some scrappy weather.
We're looking to staff up Launceston and Hobart first but we'd love to see Melbourne activated to join in on the fun! Non Standards will be opened on a case by case basis by a Senior Staff member in accordance with the policy.
The event won't have specified start or end times as the purpose of this event is to bring all of our ATC together to provide a highly realistic experience!
Additionally, There'll also be members of the training department around giving everyone tips and tricks on positions they may not have controlled before! We'll also be available to show you how to setup a Tower Cab in your simulator and provide phraseology guidance
Come along and show your support!
Routes
There are two sources you can use to get routes from Launceston/Hobart/Melbourne.
https://flightaware.com/ - You can search through real world flights and get the route from them here. Look for a day prior to the one being operated if the route doesn't show up for the latest day.
https://vatpac.org/pilots/pilot-tools/flight-planning/ - The VATPAC Flight Planning tool can provided limited information on routing however, should be checked for compliance with Jet/Non-Jet restrictions and currency.
https://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/current/ersa/GUID_ersa-fac-2-2_27FEB2020.pdf - You can check for route compliance on the ERSA Flight Planning Requirements document. There are also heaps of approved routes on this document that you can use

After several hours of pulling our hair out, we appear to have gotten it functioning again Thanks @Harrison Scott for the assistance!
We have also added Controller Feedback to the side menu

What does Alan say is going on? How can they (VATSIM) simply remove a server without discussing with VATOCE at least. They must have told Alan before this. Given that it doesn’t seem to have even been flagged in QTR meetings at any level.
Not even BoG members knew about this. It's disrespectful to say the least.

Singapore is pretty much the same for the WA Residents.

I suspect there is another reason however, with no official communications from VATSIM, we simply don't have the answers

Which server do I connect to?
VATSPY has an inbuilt function to test your Ping to VATSIM Servers.
If you don't have VATSPY, you can download it here http://www1.metacraft.com/VATSpy/. You can download updated data for VATSPY here https://github.com/vatsimnetwork/vatspy-data-project
Once in VATSPY, go to the Network Servers Tab. Then click on each server button under the Ping column. Your ping will display on the right as shown in the image below.
Changing your server
To change your server on vPilot >
Go into Settings > Network and Change your VATSIM Server in the drop down.
In vATIS>
Once on your selected profile, Click Control S > Server drop down
Euroscope >
In your connect window > Server >
Xpilot >
Click Settings > General > VATSIM Server dropdown- 2

Hi All,
I've just been informed by VATSIM I.T that the Sydney Server is being permanently shut down after all users currently connected have completed their sessions. It is also refusing new connections at this time. This means you will need to use an alternative server to connect to the VATSIM Network. The closest server which should give you the best ping will be Singapore.
I apologise for the late notice, however, we didn't know of this change prior to it occurring.

This week, we're headed back 10 years to Western Australia Perth is busier than ever thanks to the resource market so let's see if we can beat the normal morning or evening rush and connect Perth with the rest of WA. Whether flying to one of Flukey's amazing airports, an OZx classic or simply experiencing the beautiful sights of the WA coastline, there's something for everyone.
We're looking to staff up Perth first but if there are more locations available, we'd love to see Jandakot, Karratha and Broome tower's activated to join in on the fun!

Hi All,
Lately it's been observed by our ATC Team that several pilots aren't filing or are incorrect filing Equipment Codes with their flight plan (on average, one in three).
What does this mean?
An equipment code describes the transponder and/or navigation capability of the aircraft. Air traffic controllers (ATC) issue clearances based on filed suffixes; therefore it is important for pilots to use the appropriate suffix.
When providing aircraft type on a flight plan, pilots are required to include information about the on-board, certified equipment using an identifier code as a suffix to the equipment type. Pilots are recommended to file the maximum capability of their aircraft in the equipment suffix.
The diagram below indicates which code that should be used, depending on your equipment onboard. In vPilot, simply select the correct code from the dropdown.
Navigation Capability Transponder Capability Suffix RVSM Any Failed Transponder or Failed Mode C Capability /H No GNSS, No RNAV Transponder with Mode C /W RNAV, no GNSS Transponder with Mode C /Z GNSS Transponder with Mode C /L No RVSM No DME No Transponder /X Transponder with no Mode C /T Transponder with Mode C /U DME No Transponder /D Transponder with no Mode C /B Transponder with Mode C /A TACAN No Transponder /M Transponder with no Mode C /N Transponder with Mode C /P RNAV, No GNSS No Transponder /Y Transponder with no Mode C /C Transponder with Mode C /I GNSS No Transponder /V Transponder with no Mode C /S Transponder with Mode C /G If you aren't travelling with an ADS-B equipped transponder code or no code, we will be unable to locate you in several parts of Australia which rely on ADS-B Coverage.
If in doubt, most airliners have /L which indicates RVSM Capable, GNSS Navigation and Transponder with mode C. If you're flying something slightly smaller , the code could be something like /G.I'm sure your controller will greatly appreciate you putting in an equipment code, especially the correct one!
