  1. Good find Matt! We'll amend that now as the departures frequency isn't required to be inputted into a pilots tag.

Further, there is an incorrect note in line 2 as the text clearance in the above screenshot isn't for PDC. It's just for pilots requesting clearance via the WorldFlight 1 Departure via text.

PDC will use the normal clearance via .pdc.

The departures roster is now released and available on the events page https://events.vatpac.org/worldflight-2019-departures

  2. Hi Cristian,

It would be an issue with the data server. This is unfortunately a common occurrence and the VATSIM I.T are constantly looking for a fix. It should be resolved soon.

This doesn't affect pilots being able to get your controller info through the pilot client.

    Welcome to WorldFlight 2019!

Worldflight Australia is a virtual round the world flight to raise money for the Australian Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The concept of a virtual, round the world flight for charity was started by a team in the United Kingdom and has spawned an annual event with participants all over the globe. World Flight Australia was started in 2001 and over the years, World Flight Australia teams have raised over $220,000 for the RFDS, helping with the costs of avionics and providing funding for Fly Around Clinics in the essential Air Ambulances used to ferry nurses, doctors and patients around rural Australia.

VATPAC Provides ATC within the VATPAC Airspace during Worldflight. Worldflight departs and arrives in Sydney each year usually travelling through several airports within VATPAC Airspace.

This year, the teams will travel through Sydney, Darwin and Cairns on their venture around the world.

    WF2019.jpg

Departing Sydney at 0900 AEDT Sunday, there will be over 100 aircraft joining in on the journey across the Ditch to Christchurch, New Zealand. You're invited to come along as a pilot, or apply to be rostered as an Air Traffic Controller. With insane amount of traffic levels, everyone will need to work together to ensure a professional, friendly and as on time as possible service.

All the details you need to know will be posted over the next week so keep an eye out on the official event site and the VATPAC NOTAMS system/forum. We'll publish pilot and ATC briefings to ensure everyone has a detailed understanding of the procedures that we'll be using during the event.

VATPAC will be providing ATC for the departure legs from 2030z - 0230z to cover those flying earlier and later than the departure time of 2200z.

ATC Applications are now open. You can apply at the official VATPAC event site

  4. The process for getting the ATIS inside the client shouldn't have changed Sean. You should be able to either tune the frequency or right click on the _ATIS callsign in your pilot client and click Get ATIS Info or Get Controller Info.  :)

VATSIM wants to thank you for the unprecedented interest, traffic levels, and support we have seen since the launch of Audio for VATSIM on Monday. As we head into our first weekend using our new technology, we are taking some actions to maintain the stability of the voice servers while we continue to isolate and correct an issue that arises when VATSIM exceeds just over 1,000 simultaneous connections. This is not related to server capacity itself, of which we have plenty.

As a result of this issue, we will be continuing with a connection limit on each server of 147 simultaneous connections through the weekend. This means that VATSIM will be limited to a maximum of 1,036 simultaneous connections across the 7 servers. We fully anticipate that we will hit this number a few times throughout the weekend. We do not expect there to be extended times where the VATSIM connection cap is reached, but there could be times where a single server’s connection cap could be reached.

If you encounter this situation, you will receive an error message stating “There are too many users already connected to your chosen server. Please choose another server to connect to VATSIM.”

The solution is to check the servers tab of your VATSIM map to see which server has space and try connecting to that server. Note that your server location will have no effect on your VATSIM experience - the voice servers sit separately to the network servers so delay is not affected by you connecting to a server further away from your location.

In order for all who would like to use VATSIM over this weekend to have the opportunity, we need your help and cooperation by complying with these requests.

Upon completion of a flight, users are requested to immediately disconnect instead of staying connected while idle at a gate to listen to the traffic. In the same vein, users are requested not to connect to VATSIM until they are ready to file their flight plan and receive clearance.
If you are doing a longer haul flight and anticipate the need for an extended step away, please disconnect from VATSIM. Not only is this part of the Code of Conduct, but with limited connection availability it allows those actively using the network to connect. Supervisors have been advised to disconnect users who have stepped away whilst in an active Air Traffic Controller’s airspace and do not respond quickly per CoC B3.
Air Traffic Controllers are requested to consider giving up their sessions to another qualified controller who wants to control the same position if the controller has been on position for 2 hours or more. Please ensure that the controller relieving you has successfully connected prior to disconnecting so your position does not go offline and is unable to get another controller online.
Air Traffic Controllers are also asked to not transmit and receive on multiple frequencies. Each controller may transmit and receive on only one frequency unless temporarily relieving another controller in the top down hierarchy
Where we reach server capacity, VATSIM may suspend voice ATIS connections and observer connections in favor of having slots available for active controller and pilot connections. Such messages will be broadcast to all users on the network. Should you receive such a broadcast, Air Traffic Controllers are requested to disconnect their ATIS messages and proceed using a text only ATIS and Observers are requested to log off and reconnect as a Pilot or Air Traffic Controller or continue their observing session at a later time.

We want all of VATSIM’s members to have an enjoyable first weekend on Audio for VATSIM and regret that we must keep these connection limits in place. However as this issue results in instability of the Audio for VATSIM infrastructure when above 1,000 users, it’s a step that must be taken to ensure all connected users have a seamless experience.

The Audio for VATSIM team is working diligently to solve this issue and we will eliminate the connection cap as soon as we are able. Should that happen this weekend, we will communicate the change with you via network broadcast and social media posts.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation with these requests. Enjoy the first VATSIM Weekend with Audio for VATSIM!

I dont know the correct terminology being a non-controller.. But could it be written in the comments for now? Where you used to have extending to TBD etc. Just add the frequency for the extended position too. Would be great if those comments came back as standard, removes the guessing Russell is alluding too.

This has been added to our Controller Information and ATIS Policy. :)

  7. Hi Everyone,

I hope you're enjoying the new Audio for VATSIM.

Just a quick note that if you experience any coverage issues (Coverage with ATC), please let us know here so we can check if it's an issue with the data.

Thanks to your reports, we've already been able to fix up the issue of Brisbane Approach coverage in Gold Coast and Melbourne Approach coverage in the Moorabbin area.

    Cheers,

    Cal

  8. VRC Users

For VRC Users, the concept is very similar and you can use the same templates . See the template below as an example of what you can put in VRC's Voice ATIS Template.

    Quote

CANBERRA TERMINAL INFORMATION B , EXP ILS APPROACH, RWY 35 FOR ARRS AND DEPS ,
    , 30007KT , CAVOK , TEMPERATURE %temp% , QNH 1013 ,
ON FIRST CONTACT WITH CANBERRA GROUND OR APPROACH , NOTIFY RECEIPT OF BRAVO

    VRC_2019-10-15_17-06-43.png

Make sure you change the Voice ATIS Server to noserver and set the frequency correctly.

As VRC won't let you click Connect without recording an ATIS, click Record ATIS > Click Record and Click it again (Without saying anything quickly) > Click Save. Then click Connect ATIS.

Again, after a couple of minutes it will start Broadcasting. If you have any issues with words not being broadcasted, you can change the abbreviated word/phrase to the full word/phrase. You can listen to your ATIS using the format above in AFV.

  9. To further clarify,

We've done some testing for what commands are decoded by the ATIS and recommend the use of these templates.

It's important to note VATPAC's current files don't transmit AND the text ATIS format will only PARTIALLY work with the new system.

MELBOURNE TERMINAL INFORMATION N , EXP ILS APCH , RWY 16 FOR ARRS AND DEPS , 17007KT , VIS GT THAN 10 KM , CLD SCT 600FT , BKN 1100FT, TEMPERATURE 13 , QNH 1015 , ON FIRST CONTACT WITH MELBOURNE GROUND OR APPROACH , NOTIFY RECEIPT OF NOVEMBER

SYDNEY TERMINAL INFORMATION N , EXP INDEP VIS APCH , DO NOT PASS THROUGH ASSIGNED RWY CENTERLINE , RWY 16L & 16R FOR ARRS AND DEPS , PARALLEL DEPS IN PROG , INDEPENDENT DEPS IN PROG , 09011KT , CAVOK , TEMPERATURE 17 , QNH 1019 , ON FIRST CONTACT WITH SYDNEY GROUND OR APPROACH , NOTIFY RECEIPT OF NOVEMBER

Simply copy one of the templates above into Euroscope, Select your ATIS airport, change the relevant data and click connect ATIS. (Don't click Start Multiple Record Playback.)

    EuroScope_2019-10-15_16-33-07.png

In your Voice Communications Setup, Make sure you untick RCV and XMT Voice and ensure Atis is ticked.

    EuroScope_2019-10-15_16-35-01.png

You can listen to your ATIS by tuning the frequency in the AFV Standalone Client. To do so, in AFV, click the + button. Enter the airport_ATIS (eg. YSSY_ATIS) and it will prompt you to enter the frequency.

    AudioForVATSIM_2019-10-15_16-36-35.png

(NOTE: It takes a couple of minutes for the server bot to begin transmitting)

    Then click RX.

    EuroScope_2019-10-15_16-37-43.png

When you update your ATIS, it may take a couple of minutes to update on the bot. You can tune it to listen if it has updated.

If an abbreviation doesn't work, Spell out the full word/phrase.

Any questions or issues, please post below.

eg, allowing a ground control to cover tower, while tower has gone afk for 5 to 10 minutes or so

This is actually against the CoC. However, like it has happened before the change to AFV, there is no reason why someone couldn't do this now.

  11. As I'm sure you've gathered by now, Voice Rooms have gone from Audio for VATSIM. With this, the ability for the ATC clients to send ATIS sound files to the server has also gone.

    What does this mean?

Those beautiful, distorted INTAS sound files are not going to be available for the immediate future.

How does the ATIS work then?

Audio for VATSIM has a built in text-to-voice system on the server which will take your text and turn it into speech on the frequency. This means you'll still need to put an ATIS up, you just don't need to play anything.

We're still seeking clarification on the specific details of the ATIS system but it's currently expected we'll need to type out everything in a way that the text-to-voice synthesizer can correctly reproduce the words we want broadcasted. We expect a voice ATIS would need to look something like this.

    EuroScope_2019-10-12_21-48-26.png

We'll be providing more information and templates for the ATIS as it becomes available to us. This may be a project where we need your assistance once AFV is live on the Network. :)

    Stay Tuned!

  12.

We've created a tutorial video above on how to use Euroscope with Audio for VATSIM. We also wanted to post a step by step visual guide here to further assist you with connecting to the Network using Euroscope 3.1d and to provide up to date information that isn't necessarily reflected at the time of recording the video.

    Step 1 -  The Software

It's important to note that despite content online stating you'll need a new version of Euroscope, we will continue to use Euroscope 3.1d with TAATS mod within the VATPAC Division. This is functional and works fine with the new Audio for VATSIM system.

You'll need to download the Audio for VATSIM Standalone client to connect to the new voice system. You can download it here https://audio.vatsim.net/downloads/standalone

You'll also need to download the latest VATPAC Euroscope Package installer. Remember, prior to installing the latest Euroscope Package installer, you need to delete the VATPAC folder from your last install (Documents > Euroscope > VATPAC).

    Step 2 - Connecting

Once you've installed the software you need, open Euroscope as normal. Select the profile you wish to load (eg. ML-SNO_CTR, Melbourne Aerodrome, Sydney TMA etc.). Once your Euroscope has opened, connect to the Network as normal using the SYD-1 server (or closest server to your location). Once you've connected, you'll need to setup your Voice Communication Panel in Euroscope. Euroscope will automatically tick the RCV/XMT Voice buttons. You NEED to UNTICK these buttons. Your primary frequency should only have the Prim, RCV TXT and XMT TXT buttons ticket.

    EuroScope_2019-10-12_20-19-38.png

Once you've finished these steps, you can open the Audio for VATSIM standalone client. Click connect and it will automatically pick up your VATSIM Callsign, and bring up the corresponding ATC frequency list.

    AudioForVATSIM_2019-10-12_20-34-13.png

Step 3 - Cross Coupling (Applicable to CTR Only)

Cross Coupling refers to joining more than one frequency together. While this is physically possible for any position, we'll be limiting this to Enroute Positions that are providing extended coverage through the Controller Positions and Ratings Policy. This is primarily due to the fact that AFV is a huge change by itself and we don't want to overload people with information. There is also a feature called a Pseudo injector which was designed to inject your frequencies tuned in the AFV client, into the live Network. This would then display on a pilot's client. Unfortunately, they had to remove this feature for release so until such time as that has returned and the VATPAC Board has time to implement new procedures, ONLY ENROUTE (C1) CONTROLLERS PROVIDING EXTENDED COVERAGE MAY HAVE MORE THAN 1 FREQUENCY (Not Including ATIS).

For centre controllers, Cross Coupling is incredibly easy. You need to start in your Euroscope Voice Communication Panel. Make sure any sectors you wish to extend to have been setup so that you can RCV TXT and XMT TXT on those frequencies. This will ensure you'll receive text communications from non voice pilots. After this, you'll also need to ensure your visibility points are set correctly (eg. .vis YPAD YMML YSSY).

    EuroScope_2019-10-12_20-43-01.png

After configuring Euroscope, you'll now need to configure the Audio for VATSIM Panel. To tune another frequency, simply activate RX for that frequency.

    AudioForVATSIM_2019-10-12_20-44-54.png

In the above photo, you can see I am receiving voice on all 4 frequencies but only broadcasting on 124.000.

When controlling Centre, you will need to Cross Couple (XC) the positions so that pilots on one frequency, can hear everyone on the other. This will ensure minimal blocking and allows all aircraft to paint a picture of who is with you.

    AudioForVATSIM_2019-10-12_20-46-12.png

The above image displays a Cross Coupled Melbourne Centre frequency. You still need to ensure aircraft on the ground at Adelaide are on frequency 125.300 to contact you as the transceivers in Melbourne won't reach Adelaide however, if an aircraft broadcasted on 125.300, aircraft on all the other frequencies would hear this broadcast.

IF YOU PROVIDE EXTENDED ENR COVERAGE, REMEMBER TO PUT THE FREQUENCIES OF ADJACENT SECTORS INTO CONTROLLER INFORMATION

    Step 4 - Contact Me XXX.XXX

Aircraft within your airspace need to be with the correct frequency based on the sector to ensure uninterrupted ATC coverage. It's important to promptly hand aircraft to other frequencies when they pass through a different standard sector so that they don't drop out. If an aircraft was flying from Melbourne to Adelaide, you would advise the aircraft (eg. QFA123, Contact me 125.3) when they pass into the ML-TBD standard sector.

    Step 5 - ATIS

tuning to the CTR frequency listed in ERSA for a given airport will connect you to the appropriate overlying controller?

No. The way the system is currently laid out is that frequencies are allocated to Stations (positions) not transceivers. Unless there was a station with that frequency, we wouldn't be able to connect to it.

  14. Just a friendly reminder (for people who live on the forums or who don't have to deal with the inconvenience ;) ) Daylight Savings kicks in overnight for our members in the ACT, NSW, SA, TAS and VIC.

The forums and other VATPAC services use your computer time/location so there should be no affect on any of these. This does mean however, some events may see traffic earlier and the start times may change. We'll always publish the UTC time in our events so if you're ever in doubt, you can check for that in the details.

    Cheers,

    Callum
