Due to a significant lack of controller interest, Lite Milk Run is now reverting to an unrostered event.
Controllers are encouraged to log on between 03-06z on Saturday for pilots between Bankstown, Albury and Essendon. We hope to see you all there.
Thanks,

I really like that list! I am more than happy to swap the order around for those and run that. It provides enough expected flights for pilots to be more comfortable than say at a procedural, metro D or oceanic sector.
On 2/21/2022 at 8:49 AM, David Bromage said:A question is whether something like Tontouta and Brisbane would better suit Newbie Night or Training Night, or both?
I would leave this to to the training event - Oceanic is an annoying procedure if you dont know what your doing, and it needs to be organised with VATNZ so I think we can keep the Newbie Event domestic for this one.
On 2/21/2022 at 8:49 AM, David Bromage said:Another question is whether slots would be useful, like FW events. At the last newbie night there were newbies connecting at Canberra 10 min before the event ended and hadn't yet departed when ATC logged off.
Definitely would give us a lot of control. Want to hear the whole teams thoughts on this @Chris Gardiner@Luke Maynard@Tyler Hindle @Zachari Gell

Hey All,
Would anyone be interested in catching up in Melbourne on the 2nd or 3rd of March in the Melbourne CBD? I will be down there for a few days and would be keen to put a few names to faces.
Throw your name down if your interested
Thanks,

@David Bromagecould you look into compiling a list of possible locations for this. Remember we are looking for brand new pilots with this event, so keep it simple like Canberra to the Gold Coast was
Would not oppose something like Adelaide, Melbourne as the next edition. We will keep procedural airports & IFR OCTA away for now and bring them into the Training Night event . The Newbie Night series needs to conform to the generic 'commercial aviation' format.
-
Sounds like a good idea and would be of great benefit.
I have made contact with Sam K and Matt K, it seems to have support so far however I am just awaiting for confirmation before we move forward with this.
-
Hi guys,
I have began a proposal for a "Training Night" event, which is similar to the Newbie Night event, but focused on learning a specific aspect of ATC and Pilot Operations.
For example; "Training Night - Procedural Tower" or "Training Night - Sydney Airport."
I am currently in discussions with Sam K and Matt K about a joint ATC Training and Events collaboration on this event.
Anyone got any ideas on something we may be able to work on?
Will keep you all posted,

If Perth/Adelaide is planned for the second FW, then routes like Brisbane/Cairns or Cairns/Darwin shouldn't be too far. Brisbane/Williamtown might work. Or even Cairns/Port Moresby!
All of those sound like plausable event ideas. I have gone through and made potential event combos which I will keep updated in the first post.
5 hours ago, David Bromage said:Do we want to give them experience in doing more things?
An idea to put into the mix. Give them some experience and guidance in flying in and out of uncontrolled airports using CTAF. Somewhere like Kalgoorlie, Mildura, Ballina or Mt Isa which can can take jets, or spread them around the FIFO Friday destinations.
Im working on a separate "Training Night" event that will go into this in more detail. The idea of Newbie night is literally a brand new intro to VATSIM. Keeping it simple to class C or metro D airfields where there isn't too much unusual operations. This could encompass both of the above points.
5 hours ago, David Bromage said:There was some discussion about a VFR newbie event last year but it got lost in other things.
Could be done. Not sure about the viability of this as a Newbie night, maybe a "Training Night" too.
-
Hello All,
With the success of the first Newbie Night, I am now eager to turn this into a more regular event. Once every two months might be a good idea, but I feel once every three months will work great for us.
Does anyone have any destinations ideas?
Potential Combo's
- YBBN / YBCS
- YBCS / YPDN
- YBBN / YWLM
- YBCS / AYPY
- YPDN / YBRM (Procedural)
- YBBN / YBRK (Procedural)
- YMML / YMHB / YMLT (Procedural)
Thanks
-
Hi Paul,
I have received two emails to you to date. I am in the process of formulating you a response by the end of the week
-
I think that's a TFMS error...
Try going to the TFMS Options (in the TAAATS plugin) and switch it to off-line mode (right click over the airport code).
Haven't used ES for years so might be wrong.
-
Hi Paul,
Please email me via [email protected] and we can figure something out
-
Hi Joe,
We do not place each regular event (weekly) into the Event Announcement list as to not clog up the forums with 4 new threads weekly.
You can access the links via the calendar events as you currently do.
Thanks,

Good Evening Everyone
I have some announcements to make regarding staffing changes for the Events Department as we head into 2022. I am excited for these changes, but also saddened to see some long time staff members departing the team.
Chris Gardiner rises to the Events Manager Role
@Chris Gardinerhas been appointed to the Events Manager Role for 2022 and beyond (hopefully). Chris has been a member of the Events Department since August 2021 and since then has been responsible for a number of Major Events during the final quarter of 2021. Chris brings with him many interesting ideas and plans for the events team and I look forward to working with him in leading the department into 2022. Chris's appointment as Events Manager will officially commence on the 1JAN22.
Cameron Wilbraham departs the Events Team
After 15 months as the Events Manager, @Cameron Wilbrahamhas resigned from the events department on the whole. Cameron has been my right hand person for much of the last 15 months, and will be greatly missed from the entire staff team as he ventures into new pastures. Best of luck with everything into the future mate!
Paris Ioannidis departs the Events Team
After 12 months as an Events Coordinator, @Paris Ioannidishas decided to hang up the hat and focus on real life commitments. Paris was pivital in starting the now successful FIFO Friday events, which will continue into 2022. Thank you for all of you hard effort Paris!
Zachari Gell joins the Events Team
@Zachari Gell joins the Events Department as an Events Coordinator. Zach has been a Mentor with the ATC Training team and recently expressed interest in also expanding across to events. Zach will be a valued addition to the team as we head into 2022!
Best of luck to these four individuals. We wish you all the best in 2022 and beyond, regardless of your role in the Events Department!
Regards,

Newbie Night Discussions

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all for your input.
I would agree that a coordinator controller would not he the most beneficial, or most practical if the Ground controller is proficient. A small two or three page briefing can be created for controllers with regards to push and take-off requirements, and just need to be followed by the controllers.
Slots are not to control the traffic flow. Slots are there so we can provide detailed information to those who book a slot (as we will be doing with Real Ops)
I think we skip the booking site discussion until after First Wings has concluded, and see how beneficial that turns out and then contemplate moving it into our system.
Thanks,
