  1. Hello,

For those of you who may live in Perth and aren't able to travel to Sydney, WorldFlight Perth (Giant 1471) is opening our doors and welcoming visitors to the sim shed throughout the week of WorldFlight. Members of all ages are welcome (Under 18 are encouraged to bring an adult) to pop by and check out the simulator. The sim is located on a property in Mundijong, around 30 minutes south of Perth.

There are basic facilities and a small selection of beverages and snacks available. We additionally will cook dinner each night featuring dishes relating to the location we're in or somewhere we've flown during the day. You're welcome to stay for dinner however, we ask that you contribute towards the cost and let us know in advance if you're staying.

When visiting the sim, we kindly ask for a small donation towards our chosen charity if able. There will be opportunities to sit inside the cockpit, including in the Captain/FO seats during non-critical phases of flight.

All the details and information on how to get in touch can be found on our website https://giant1471.org/visit/

    Thanks :)

Shouldnt those people that have been identified be removed so others can still enjoy a very good platform? It appears a couple of bad apples have ruined the whole tree so to speak....

    Hi Ben,

There have been several community platforms used by VATPAC , for several years now. I'm sure you'd be aware of these alternatives having previously been a member of the marketing team.

As Zach has mentioned, some time was needed for a plan to be developed. This isn't a small issue of a couple of bad apples that needs tackling. We aren't far off bringing back some more functionality to Discord and appreciate your patience.

  3. Thanks for bringing this to our attention Kirk. I'm sure the events team will take a look into this occurrence and endeavour to ensure compliance in the future. This, like every event on Friday's and Sunday's, was an opportunity for VFR pilots to come together and do a group flight, nothing more, nothing less. As Dan has said, common sense was involved in the thought process and it was nobody's intention to be non-compliant with a VATSIM Policy.

As I can't see anything constructive being added to this topic, I'll be locking the thread.

As has been the way for several years, your feedback can be directed to the appropriate department by visiting feedback.vatpac.org.

  8. Hi Charan,

Extended coverage wouldn't be provided during WorldFlight. It is generally only something that occurs in VATPAC and we'll have sufficient controllers.

In the event a Division cannot provide enough local controllers or coverage, the WorldFlight ATC Team will fill in the gaps.

Also, the WF ATC Team has been selected already and if you haven't had contact, I'd assume you weren't selected. There was over 300 applicants and they only took around 40.

    Cheers,

    Cal

  9. Welcome Joe.

You'll need to download an additional client for voice if using xSquawkBox called Audio for VATSIM.

I'd recommend using xPilot instead as the voice communications are built into the client.

That should resolve any voice/comms issues :)

    Welcome to WorldFlight 2020

Worldflight Australia is a virtual round the world flight to raise money for the Australian Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The concept of a virtual, round the world flight for charity was started by a team in the United Kingdom and has spawned an annual event with participants all over the globe. World Flight Australia was started in 2001 and over the years, World Flight Australia teams have raised over $220,000 for the RFDS, helping with the costs of avionics and providing funding for Fly Around Clinics in the essential Air Ambulances used to ferry nurses, doctors and patients around rural Australia.

VATSIM Australia Pacific provides ATC within the VATPAC Airspace during Worldflight. Worldflight departs and arrives in Sydney each year, travelling through several airports within the VATPAC Airspace.

Pilot information will be published on the event page and forums prior to Friday 30th of October.

    Outbound ATC Applications Open

ATC Applications for the outbound legs of WorldFlight are now open. We invite all interested controllers to nominate their availability and get involved in the busiest event through the VATPAC Airspace. We usually see well in excess of 100 aircraft movements on the first few legs. Thanks to the large amount of sectors through our airspace this year, we have up to 39 positions which need controlling across a period of 15 hours. While the slots are 1 hour in length, we would prefer to keep controllers on single positions for at least 2-3 hours to limit interruption to pilots. This will be subject to availability.

    Apply Here: https://events.vatpac.org/worldflight-2020-outbound

The ATC Roster for the outbound legs will be published by Monday 26th of October. ATC Applications for the inbound legs will open within 7 days. If you have any questions or queries, please don't hesitate to reach out via forum PM or email [email protected].

  11. This has been a huge change that has been coming for some time. It's definitely a step in the right direction as it brings the community closer to the people who lead it.

I wanted to say a few words to recognise two people who have contributed greatly to the Region through their respective roles.

Jackson has also been involved in the Division and VATSIM for as long as I can remember. When I started back in 2011, Jackson was the Division Director of VATPAC and over the years, moved through to the Regional Director position before joining the BoG. His dedication to his roles on the Network have seen the Division and Region grow and although we've had our differences, I appreciate all the assistance you've provided me. I hope to see you hanging around Tahiti in the future :D

Alan came into the Division at a very turbulent time and he hit the ground running. It certainly hasn't been an easy run but he's handled all of the curveballs perfectly and continued to maintain stability. Alan, your assistance, wisdom and guidance in a variety of situations has been greatly appreciated and I hope you stick around and come flying through the VATPAC airspace soon. I was shocked to hear about your medical episode and I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery and healthy future.

Finally, we have such a great community. Regardless of who's leading it, the people in it are the ones who make it as great as it is. Alan and Jackson will always be a part of that and I look forward to seeing both of you for many years to come :)

Blair, I don't understand. I and many others were trained on EuroScope.... so this new client, I believe, needs to be implemented in training and for us "older" controllers too. As it currently stands, it is BETA, so I'll await further training or training courses to be made available on this new client.

    Hi Cristian,

I just wanted to add, the list for training requests is significant currently and many of the training team don't have the time to dedicate resources to creating content (myself included). That's not to say that resources won't come but simply, I'd recommend logging onto a quiet position, reading the documentation and having a play around. We don't provide detailed training on how to use the clients now as the majority of these skills should be developed through observing and mentoring.

Plenty of "older" controllers as you put it have been doing exactly this and asking questions where they have them on Discord. :)
