  1. "I've just completed a marathon 24 hours spotting without moving (except for the occasional 10 min break) and the traffic flow is simply relentless.....love it! :D"

I wish we had prompt read backs like they have for Panic Stations!B|

Do you couple your session with Flightradar24 or something similar?

  2. From a thread that terminated in January, but old Quigs didn't notice that!!

"I wonder if the new system will accommodate a controllers ability to operate on 2 frequencies.

The example I heard on YPAD from Adelaide App: XYZ you are leveing CTA, contact me now on 123.45"

  4. We did have an event a couple of years ago that was VFR oriented specifically for the Sydney basin.

We created the real world positions, frequencies, sector files etc.

Unfortunately the event was not well patronized. Outside of our usual VFR stalwarts there were only few other aircraft. Nothing that the standard controller positions couldn’t handle.

I agree that it would be fun to activate these positions, however, we just don’t have the traffic levels to justify it.

  5. This from the VATSIM forum.  Seems to answer all the questions.

Yes please. The only other thing to keep in mind is that once a controller has changed your flight strip, it's locked to changes by the pilot. You won't get any kind of error message -- it will look like it went through just fine. But the controller won't see any changes you've made.

The work around to this - and this usually works - is by disconnecting, reconnecting, and refiling. I would not use this if you need to change something like a cruising altitude, since that's a pretty simple fix and you wouldn't want to override anything changed by a controller. If you are completely changing your route, destination, etc., then I would refile.

You have to negotiate with the controller as to who does what to whom!

  6. VATPAC usually updates their AIRACs at the same time (or within days) of Air Services Australia's updates.  These occur every 12 weeks or 3 lunar months or sort of quarterly.   (The year has 52 weeks.  4 weeks = one lunar month.  A lunar year has 13 months.)

A schedule of the release dates is available on the Air Services web site.

Navigraph updates follow the ICAO sequence of lunar monthly updates; ie 13 updates per calendar year.  So Navigraph has nothing that VATPAC does not have for Australia.

Which is to say: There will be no changes in the Australian data until AIRAC 1903.

If there are going to be any changes to this our Director of Operations,  Mr. E Motherway will no doubt post a NOTAM to that effect.

  7. The amp you'll need should be the same power (or even greater power, measured in watts) than the one that died on you.

Selecting the speakers in your windows playback devices (or whatever Mac's have, if you're a denizen of the dark side) should give you the engines, environment etc. sounds from your flight simulator.

You select the ATC output destination with whatever client (vPilot?) you use to connect with the network.
