Some these clearances are so long that it would appear Comms are harder to learn than flying:D

The people who are uploading LiveATC must have special/brand radios that tune into airport frequencies; what sort of radio will do this?

It's crazy!! Now we know why IRL sydney controllers don't like working CLearance Delivery

Considering I did your mentoring, and have for a fair majority of the TWR students over my 2 years on the Training Team, I have never told any TWR controller that... You may have been confused as the TWR course does not explore any aerodromes where the (aerodrome)# SID is not a RADAR Departure. This is an easy mistake to make if you get into the habit of assuming that these aerodrome# SIDS are all RADAR, as this the case at most common Class C airports.

I always make it clear that the ML5 states it is a RADAR Departure on the Chart.

I would be interested to know what made you believe this, so I can ensure it ceases to continue.

I think that it may be because we only covered C airports. But again, I probably misheard you, at least it got me a competent 😆😆

I'm sorry, where does it say that?

When I did my mentoring, I was led to believe that. I'm sure that others have the same Idea as myself.

Departed BK a few times IFR OTS.

With the taxi call to SY CEN, if traffic permits, will be given a clearance along the lines of "ABC, cleared to enter CTA tracking via the BK8, maintain 5000, squawk 1234".

Don't think I have ever heard an assigned heading given out of BK, as the BK8 is not a RADAR departure.

True. Tower training leads controllers to believe that aieport#numbet departures are radar.

These Pilot Training Modules are fantastic!  Working on getting my hours up for P2 exam, and I was able to today finish a flight without using autopilot the entire way. Itw as a short loop flight from Archerfield to Wellington Point then back to Archerfield to land, and it was not the prettiest of flights, but I took off, flew the route, and landed without needing AP assistance. It felt wonderful!

But my goodness it can get busy!

Not a perfect flight, I forgot some of my checklists, and I forgot one UNICOM message, but just with the information provided in P1 and P2 modules, I learned a LOT on how to use the instruments, how to navigate, and proper speeds for landings and such.

Again, thank you so much for having those available!

Congrats Mate! You might get Josh, myself or a couple of other Legends for your checkride :)

Not having any experience at ATC, I would comment that it is would be much easier to readback quickly when there are two pilots on board as in RW. One concentrates on onboard stuff whilst the other can quickly jot down the instructions for a prompt readback. Bit harder to do promptly when instructions from ATC can be quite muffled ( perhaps Vatsim should should dictate a minimum  standard headset?) and you are a sole pilot in your study.:D

New codec will fix this. There were pilots using integrated mics and they sounded great

In regards to these new instructions is an assigned heading required in point 6.4.1.2  between TWR and Sector above when the BK 8 DEP has an assigned hdg already in the instructions for leaving the control zone? (http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/current/dap/SBKDP01-153_23MAY2019.pdf)

6.4.1.2 BK TWR shall make next call to SY TCU once the aircraft is in the run-up bay.

    BK: NEXT UNA

SY: UNA ASSIGNED HDG 290, MAINTAIN A030

Flukey, from memory I believe that heading is after the bk 8 is terminate

Perth Area Local Instructions, heading 3.3.2 VFR Procedures. The table shows VFR entry points and clearance instructions. The first entry point in the table is gone, per the 23 MAY AIRAC. Six South has been replaced by Oakford and Brickworks.

In all cases, the clearance instructions in the table do not match the procedure in use actually at Jandakot. The process is closer to this:

ABC: Jandakot Tower, Alpha Bravo Charlie is a Cessna 172 at Boatyard, 1500 ft with 2 POB solo inbound with charlie.

TWR: Alpha Bravo Charlie Maintain 1500ft.

ABC: Maintain 1500ft, Alpha Bravo Charlie.

ABC: Jandakot Tower, Alpha Bravo Charlie, Adventure World.

TWR: Alpha Bravo Charlie, make visual approach, traffic is a... OR Alpha Bravo Charlie, traffic is a... (Depends on whether traffic conflict exists by descending to 1000ft)

When appropriate: TWR: Alpha Bravo Charlie, Cleared to land.

The process is detailed in the ERSA as well. The Local Instructions doc says to either email or to open a forum thread. So here we are!

This will be included in the Perth Local Instructions. Just finishing this now.

Well I'd want to make sure the team attending are fed and have their fuel costs reimbursed. If it's representing the community I would want to make sure there was at least a pool of funds available. I'll see what the higher-ups think and we can go from there. Just wanted the offer on the table.

Ah that makes sense. I didn't think about that.

I'd be happy to financially back a booth of some description. If you decide you want to put something together let me know what you need and I will sort it.

Not sure if it would need funding, if you wanted to I reckon just donating a monitor would probably be the best :).

I know there is nothing set in stone but From the minimal stuff I've planned (so I could show that I have put some thought into it). I've got a desk, a power strip, two monitors, desktop, laptop and a microphone. I'm sure Callum would have to approve someone.

If we wanted we could organise something unofficial until one of the Board members comes and says something else.

    Hi All,

I know this may be a bit early etc, but does VATPAC plan on attending OZ Fs Expo 2019 at all at HARS?

Expo falls on the 23-24 November this year

    https://www.ozflightsim.com/

Hey, I was planning on attending. I was actually planning on chatting to @Callum Strawbridge when I could about doing a booth for Vatsim/Vatpac as it's only about an hour and a half drive from my house, I can easily bring equipment down and as a matter of fact I finish my Modern History HSC exam a few weeks prior to that so I'll be free.

VATPAC went last year so I assume we will this year.

    For Sale

ASUS GTX980 4GB STRIX O/C Edition video card.

$230 (plus postage at buyers expense)

Only selling due upgrade for VR.  This card has been running P3D and X-Plane strong (at 30-70FPS depending on aircraft and weather when coupled with a 4GHz i7) for it's entire life.  If you can't afford a new generation card and want something cheap that performs, you are better off with this than a 1060 or something (just ask Kurt D'Amico:D).

PM if interested.  Also listed on gumtree but the price for VATPAC members is cheaper.

That's a pretty good price. I'd 100% buy it and use it as a second card if I had enough slots :(
