Excellent.  I won’t rush into ES then.  Good work Jake.

Haha. I think this is going to be a big learning step.

I did nothing apart from testing. All thanks to Jake's hard work :)

Just seeing above, how much different will something like this be to using euroscope with TAAATS mod?

So to confirm (sorry for my ignorance) Cross Coupling will not be released with the initial AFV release.

I am just lost from the above few comments (and I hope others are as well or I may be going insane.) So I'm just looking for clarification.

Cross coupling will be in afv, and Callum correct me if I am wrong, but injecting pseudo positions into FSD will not be, at least on release.

Taking Tracy's very valid points into consideration, a compromise could be to have something like Controller of the Month who gets the most positive feedback? We'll be looking at new ways to encourage pilots and other controllers to submit feedback to we can actively work to develop what we teach and expect controllers to practice. While something like this would have to be carefully structured to ensure pilots don't get harassed to submit feedback, I'm sure we can incorporate some kind of monthly award in a fair and reasonable way.

That seems a good idea. Like it or not we need to encourage pilot and controller activity, and awards are how some divisions have done so.

If a controller is offering top-down coverage, will they add the frequencies below their position?

For example, if ML-SNO_CTR was covering YMML top-down, would they cover 124.000, 132.000 & 120.500?

Read the post that Callum sent above. I'd think it would be good as it allows ease of use when a tower or approach logs in...

Callum, I would love to accept the offer to participate in some divisional testing, however, and this has been ongoing for AFV betas, the test clashes with a long weekend holiday here in SA and as such I will be away from my sim and WAN until Tuesday. So far each beta test has clashed with something or other preventing me from participating. All quite fustrating. The exception was this last oceanic test and in that instance I simply failed to open the emailed invitation. :(

Having said this, after this up coming weekend I expect no further absences and would love to particpate in any additional tests. Oh, wait a minute. AFV goes live the following week. Doh! :)

Dan, I expect to have an in depth AFV discussion this evening during World Discovery.

Can someone clarify something. I seem to remember reading that the initial AFV mplementation will effectively cripple the use of any frequency except standard UNICOM for voice coms without a controller to allow pilots to adjust. However, discussions in this thread seem to suggest this will not be the case and that CTAF will be fully implemented and instead the use of UNICOM is to be mandated as a procedural requirement. Is this correct?

As for the issue of broadcasting on com1 and com2 simultaneously. I noticed it wasn't possible when I did my training, but assumed it was because of equipment limitations in a lowly trainer and that commercial outfitting would have greater capability. It would appear my assumption is unfounded. Not the first time, won't be the last. Always learning.

World discoveries are gonna be much more exciting with this 😆😆😆

  6. I'm just putting this out here so people can dump their ideas for a central place.

    Here's my idea!

With the emergence of having multiple frequencies, can we make it compulsory to have controllers monitoring guard, as well as allowing pilots to have Ctaf on their main frequency, and Unicom on comm2.

    Just my idea.

  7. Hey all. I've noticed that in Washington D.C ARTCC, to promote activity they have implemented a "gold mic". Each month, the controller with the most hours is rewarded with their name on the website and a special role colour in the forums, and discord.

We could implement this by making a dedicated page, to list people who have won it, and have a role on the TeamSpeak and forums

I believe this would promote more activity.

    Hey Rusty,

If you have access to the BETA software, we'll be doing some Divisional testing over the weekend and I'd love for you to come along :D

Assuming you're talking about the callsigns of other pilots on frequency? I don't believe they do. I know the standalone AFV client does tell you who the last person to broadcast on your frequency is though.

It sure will be and I'm really excited to see this in action. I believe they were injecting the radio position names into the client/FSD server originally however, ran into a snag and it became unstable so they'll be removing this feature at release. I will need to do further testing to confirm whether all of our manned frequencies will show up.

I'm sure the BoG members from Australia were pushing for this in the first place. I will do everything we can as a Division to expedite the official use of this in Australia. In the mean time, I couldn't see an issue with monitoring unicom on COM2 and broadcasting CTAF on COM1.

This might be a Flight Simulator limitation but I'm honestly not too sure. Excellent question!

I'm glad to see everyone's excitement for the introduction of the new VATSIM Voice Software :D

Could you post on the forums times for divisional testing? Myself would be happy to join for a little Milkrun

Event has started guys and gals, we need our controllers to get on and represent VATPAC!

I note that at the time of this post, CB_TWR is the position with the most hours logged on the network this week - world first. ML-SNO_CTR is coming 4th, and CB_APP lagging behind at 14th! Where are our S3s? We need air (control) support!

Thanks to @Tyler Boyd, @Tristan Garratt, @Angus McKenzie and @Tyler Hindle for their efforts so far - spread across all three positions. We wouldnt be where we are without your time contributed. Lets work together to take home another Iron Mic!

Let's hope my internet holds up

Given the way the frequencies work, I'm gonna say "Yes" from a technology standpoint... but hopefully less "Like that" from a radio discipline standpoint :P

Will there be a guard frequency like this? xD

Any VHF frequency will work. 122.800 is limited to 15 miles. Only 122.800 tho

Kirk, now I'm back from holidays, I had a look at the .ese sector definitions for EXTEND_ASP and they are correct. I can't explain why you had AUG and TBD light up as I couldn't reproduce it when I tried

Maybe Kirk is on an older Airac?

(By then, this should be in the recent past... hopefully)

    • What are some of the most recent developments on the network?
    • What are some of the best aspects of the new Audio for Vatsim codec and how does it improve realism?
    • What is range-based reception and does it mean Voice Unicom?
    • Do you think this will drive more General Aviation VFR activity?
    • Do you think there will be any new training needed to facilitate procedures close to, but underneath controlled airspace?
    • Where can people find the relevant frequencies to use when conducting such flights, at least for Australian airspace?

    I'll send it in :)

Sorry Tristan, I have no idea what you are talking about so am unable to help unless you can explain it in another way.

So on MRM, When Director logged in, with runway 25 selected. The runway 16 airspace was cut out rather than the 25 airspace.
