It should be noted that in the lower most chart there are two information balloons for Barmera (incorrectly spelt as Bamera) airfield. The western most is in fact "Waikerie". It is just an error in the name. The runway, elev and freqs are all correct for Waikerie. An easy copy/paste over sight when creating a custom chart. Thanks Dave. I am looking forward to departing from my old stomping grounds for this flight. Rusty

Hi, Just thought I would point out that the scenery links for Hobart Airport are inactive. Rusty

Apologies pilots. I had to publish a completely different flight plan at the last minute. Sadly, I neglected to consider differences in scenery and discovered that scenery for Lake George now reflects real world where there is no water in the lake. As such, a complete re-think was required whereby the flight now requires planes to depart with a full payload. After dumping the lot planes are redirected to a confirmed source of water to continue the flight. The return to Canberra now flies via Lake George where all can see for themselves the dry lake for themselves. Rusty.

Event Details As my final official VATPAC VFR Operations event, this flight will begin from Goolwa, a home away from home returning to my home airport of Parafield. Departing Goolwa the flight overflies the series of five barrages that keeps the lower Murray free of salt. The flight continues via Murray Bridge and the Barossa Valley returning to Parafield from the North East. VFR Coordinator Russell Diehl Many thanks to pilots, controllers and VATPAC staff for supporting these events these past many years and hope they continue to do so as Dave Bromage takes control and advances these events to even greater altitudes. Expect to see VH-DLL flying these events for many years to come! Simulation Date/Time : Current date set to daylight. Weather : Real World / Fair weather if real world is unsuitable for VFR operations. Distance : 103 nm Est Flight Time : approx 80 mins Aircraft : Single piston engine aircraft such as Cessna 172 or similar capable of 105 to 125 kias. Altitude : Carefully negotiate Adelaide CTA until clear to the south then remain below the steps thereafter. Flightplan File as : YGWA YMEG YSYN YMBD WARR DMW YPPF GPS Flightplan is available for FSX, P3D, FS2020 as a 'pln' file and X-Plane as an 'fms' file. Navigation : Pilots familiar with the area can navigate visually, for those less familiar the accompanying GPS Flightplan is the recommended method of navigating the flight. NOTE : If scenery precludes the jetties along the coastal beaches then consider flying an aircraft that supports the GPS flightplans so the positions of the jetties will be obvious. Communications Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. Now that VATSIM has introduced AFV (Audio For VATSIM) CTAF can now be used across all VATSIM approved pilot clients. Pilots are requested to tune to the published frequency as detailed in the flight details for an event when operating in or around an aerodome to make and monitor CTAF broadcasts. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM COC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor Unicom (Australia 122.80). It is highly recommended that pilots ensure that at least one of their "on board" COM radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive unicom transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF frequency. Please Note. All pilots should also be vigilant regarding the receipt of text on both unicom and CTAF. If it is discovered there is a pilot participating that is unable to receive voice transmissions, pilots should arrange to also broadcast via text to ensure those pilots without the benefit of voice is able to receive appropriate broadcasts. VATSIM provides an update guide for getting AFV working on each of the approved pilot clients. Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. For this flight we depart Parafield to the north via Saint Kilda before turning south and transiting Adelaide controlled airspace along the coast. This requires an ATC clearance (usually from Ground) arranged whilst stationary on the apron prior to departure in much the same manner as clearance to transit Adelaide airspace via the Hope Valley Reservoir is obtained. A coastal transit isn't typically granted to GA and is more usually provided to beach patrol aircraft. Since this transit crosses the departure/approach path to Adelaide's main 05/23 runway the coastal transit is divided into transition segments using beach jetties as boundaries and excellent visual reference points. ATC will not clear aircraft into a segment until it is vacant of aircraft. ATC will issue pilots holding orbits when unable to clear them to proceed. Parafield aerodrome has a layout that can precipitate unintended runway incursions, most prevalently by unwary pilots transiting taxiway B. There are two undershoots to rwys 26L/26R that require clearance to cross, one of which is the threshold holding point for runway 21R. Most pilots familiar with Parafield typically request taxying via F to the run-up bay and then taxying to the 21R threshold via A and A4. Even this has some local considerations. Pilots routinely will hold position and give way to aircraft on approach or departing 21R/03L when transiting taxiway F. For those that downloaded the GPS files before Friday 15th Jan then consider downloading the set again. It was pointed out to me that the X-Plane 11 flightplan had an incorrect ICAO for Camden Haven airfield, a hold over of legacy FSX scenery. If you find your GPS is directing you to an airfield in WA then this is what has happened. Ignore the false path and redirect the plane to "The Lakes YLKS" and expect to overfly Camden Haven 3nm short of YLKS. Thanks to Scotty Galloway for alerting me to this issue. Rusty

Event Details Aerial Fire Suppression Training Exercise - Snowy Mountains NOTE : This special event comes at the cost of multi-simulator support. This event requires installation of custom scenery that overlays smoke targets onto existing X-Plane 11 scenery. FS2020 lacks the ability for aircraft to dump and load additional payloads. P3D does support this however the author of this flight lacks a copy of the simulator and more importantly its "Software Development Kit", the component that allows for the creation of customised P3D scenery. (Someone wanting to use P3D that has the knowledge to create the scenery is welcome to PM me to obtain the coordinates of the target zones). Those pilots not flying X-Plane 11 will be at a severe disadvantage for the majority of this flight. All but a single airport related target can be visually located without accompanying scenery. The aircraft should also be capable of "scooping" its load of water from a suitable body of water thus allowing it to operate continuously without the need to land and reload. Examples of such suitable aircraft include the Consolidated PBY Catalina X-Plane 11 and is the preferred aircraft type for this event. The Canadair CL415 (X-Plane)/CL215 represents a potential fallback alternative however the X-Plane 11 variant has some inconvenient limitations. (refer to "Know Your Water Bombing Aircraft" below). Know your water bombing aircraft Whichever aircraft is chosen, pilots should familiarise themselves with the technicalities of ; deploying/retracting the scoop and using this to refill tanks. FSX/P3D : The OZX Ernabella scenery is not included in the airport database on these two platforms. As such the airport is not a valid departure point within a flightplan. To work around this the flightplan has been created to depart YAYE Ayres Rock/Conellan airport and the first waypoint is Ernabella the true departure airport for this flight. See the note below regarding the consequences of this to the inability to spawn at Ernabella on the FSX/P3D platforms. Communications Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. FSCopilot/FSInn VATSIM pilots connecting to the network using FSCOPILOT/FSINN can install an additional file that provides the ability to tune the CTAF frequency and make voice announcements to other pilots on frequency. These files can be obtained via this link. Swift Swift is a recent VATSIM Pilot Client alternative now released to the public as a beta release candidate. This pilot client is a one fits all alternative and will work with FSX, P3D V3/V4 and XPlane in either 32 bit Windows or 64 bit Windows, Mac and Linux. This client, once installed and configured (not for the faint of heart - some guidance can be found in this video tutorial for those with X-Plane on Windows x64), also provides a capability for pilots to designate a private voice channel to allow communication with other pilots in the same voice channel. However, to do this requires a frequency over ride to be set allowing the client to ignore the set frequency instead providing text entry into a text box. Into this box the name of the voice room needs to be entered to enable voice communication. A voice room is typically in the form of "some.server.org/<Airport ICAO>". The server component is ALWAYS "rw1.vatpac.org". So this week's departure would use "rw1.vatpac.org/<Airport ICAO>". For airports without an airport ICAO it is typical to use VATPAC VFR Virtual voice room acccessed using 131.25 in FSINN. The equivalent for SWIFT is "rw1.vatpac.org/virtualvfr". For those that flew on Friday and remembered to save the situation can use this to place themselves at the airport. For those without a saved situation a work around is to spawn at any airport, load the accompanying FSX/P3D flightplan and accept being located at the departure airport. Doing this will place the plane at YAYE Ayres Rock/Conellan the destination for the flight. From that location, open the simulation map then drag the plane to the first waypoint in the depicted plan. Close the map by clicking okay to confirm the repositioning. This should relocate the plane in the vicinity of the airport in the scenery.
