  1. In the old YMML tower there was a picture of the airspace for every runway configuration....for runway 09, someone wrote "God help us!"

Back in those days I had the dubious honour of flying into YMML 4 times in a week, and every single landing was in a different runway....the last one was on 09...in a QF 737-300, he took forever to stop, with 25 knot crosswind (it had been a 20 knot headwind before it changed on final).

  2. Hi Chris,

Did you recalibrate it because of issues with it spiking? If so, what magic did you unleash upon it?

    Regards

    Craig

I know of a guy we call "The Fiddler" who opened up his throttle quadrant, gave it a good clean and he says all his spike issues are gone!

EDIT: Spoke to "The Fiddler"...he said the actual problem was the soldiering of one cable into the circuit board, it was very poorly done. he removed the soldiering after watching how to do it on You Tube, and he re-did the job himself, and it has never been better.

  3. Milk run to Brisbane should be interesting. Weather is still cyclonic. Emirates did two missed approaches this morning, and the wx bureau is now advising of possible thunderstorms in the area for later in the day.

Who is game to test out their weather programs?

  4. I'm going to sound like a broken record again. I've brought these comments to the table after every one of these events recently. There are a few problems with betting the bank on this approach:

    • We are all amateur controllers of differing skill levels.
    • We are all amateur pilots of differing skill levels.
    • Sim time, does not always = real time. No matter how hard you try.

I agree with this, we have pilots and controllers who struggle with the concept of Mach number at cruise altitude, differences in weather programs (some use third party weather software, others don't), and a 737-8 can be an NGX or default 737...they have totally different levels of automation and to some degree, pilot skill. Then you add into the mixture the pilots with latest equipment who are unsure how to use it, pilots using text instead of voice, etc etc....and you end up without being able to reliably hand over the responsibility to achieve the fix times you require.

Rather than split the pilots by skill (some will say they are far better than they really are anyway :D), let's just keep it basic, after all, isnt that the premise of Panic Stations? Suggest we start with opening the trail requirement from 15nm to 20 or 25nm from outer sectors to feeder sectors and go from there. Rob might have some good ideas about the way things were done before we had SIDs and STARs....it was just trailing and flood arrivals before handing trails to approach. But there was a method to the madness..

Let's keep it for what it is, a fun virtual world of aviation, where if you have an incident you try better next time without your TL and a bloke frmo CASA and the union having the dreaded "tea and bikkies" with you.

  5. With ANA and JAL grounding their fleets, and QR appearing to shortly follow...it would be interesting to see if Boeing continue to say these are "normal" teething issues...

This video was recorded during the evacuation of the ANA 787 yesterday 16th of Jan...Boeing's PR machine stated there was no smoke, simply a precaution due to a warning signal (read" we had a signal problem, nothing serious")...watch this video and keep an eye on the vent aft of the nose wheel.

The JAL aircraft that caught fire a few days earlier on the ground at Boston....Boeing states it was simply "overheating"...the Boston emergency services state there were flames and lots of smoke, and they were surprised by how long it took them to bring the fire under control...

    See the photo...

Now hands up who would like to fly an ETOPS leg in one of these???

  6. even with its shortcomings (inaccurate TOD and a few tweaks), it is already miles ahead of the Wilco and BBS aircraft...the best experience I have had flying an Airbus in FSX, period...really good fun. Am beta testing voice control for it for MCE, they dont need an SDK, they have just about every active switch from the AXE available to voice control, even some functions from the right hand MCDU!!!

They will release in the next week or so, it is free for existing users of MCE, and adds a whole new dimension... (they will do the Coolsky DC-9 next)...so Pete, go for the Bus mate, for the first time flying a bus doesnt feel like flying a Boeing with an Airbus panel...great fun.

  7. Thanks Will,

I'd be grateful if you could post your results. I think the issue might well be within the product itself, rather than the AIRAC provider. Good luck.

    Nick

No luck Nick, I got YBBN working fine with the Visual approaches, they are all there, but it appears some of the coding is not read properly by the FMGS. it is being looked at by Aerosoft...in the meantime, you can enter any waypoints missing by hand and manually adjust the vertical profile.

I find it strange that such an issue was not picked up in the Beta stage

  8. No same computer

To be honest ive tried to use FSinn on FS2004 with the same results previously and Thats why ive stuck with SB.

Ive installed using the migrator tool and followed all the steps on the VATSIM forums.

    Looks like its SB again.

Ive since found out that BAvirtual is not supporting P3d with its pilot clients, because the EULA says not for entertainment purposes, looks like FS9 will live a bit longer!

Mate, the biggest issue is that since PMD G opened their great big trap about the EULA, they put the fear of God into it. Look at it this way, Microsoft sold the ESP to LM, this is the commercial side of the code, not the side that supports FSX itself. So basically this meant LM could only use it to produce a product for Commercial levels only....so what do they do? They release an "Academic" or "student" version...read between the lines, it is to be used at home, they protect themselves with the EULA but they do not stop anyone from using it. In fact, they have made an SDk and add ons fully backward compatible to FSX. All you need is an EULA that is compatible and away you go, this is how Aerosoft are producing the A320 which carries an "entertainment" EULA directly into P3D....same with Quality Wings and others are jumping on board.

You can get VAFS working with P3D without any modifications, and SB4 works with P3D as well, I just prefer FSINN.

Pity you can't get FSINN working at all...have you tried the usual culprits? Registry clean, disable UAC, etc?

  9. I had tried legacy mode as well' date=' still no luck[/quote']

That's very strange mate, what we did is install FSINN with virtual fsx enabled at all times. Install fsinn as you would in fsx, disable tuner, disable fsinn weather, run fsinn ui, etc, just the same steps. Run P3D in legacy mode and let it build the aircraft repository and that is that.

Are you running it over a network?

  10. Kirk, are you running P3D in LEGACY mode? if you dont, the sim will crash, FSINN tries to connect to its aircraft repository and the game is over because the registry is set for FSX.

You need leave the migrator tool with Virtual FSX enabled...then when you start P3D, choose the option "P3D Legacy Mode"...it should work fine from there.

  11. Back on topic chaps....a question for the Beta testers....i notice people in the Aerosoft forums have posted about having issues with the SIDs and STARs in Australia for the A320....I had only flown Sy-ML at that point and had no issue, but the return leg I could see what they mean...the Rivet 9 STAR is a bit of a mess....also did a Rocky to BN flight and the Smoka arr from the north was non existent, and even when entering the waypoints manually, the vertical profile had all sorts of issues.

This is with the latest AIRAC from Navigraph....has anybody else got these issues?

  12. Thanks Will,

This sounds better than paying a monthly debit.

How long does version 1.X last for?

Is P3D going to bring out yearly updates?

Mate, it got updated from 1.3 to 1.4 about 6 months ago...got no idea how long it will be before the next update or when 2.0 is coming out, but 1.4 is running beautifully, well worth the $40 to have an updated version of FSX in my humble opinion.

  13. Lionel, purchase the academic version for a one off payment of $49 and you are done.

Be aware that this is for version 1.X, so any update to version 1.X is free. When version 2.0 comes it will be a different sim with support for dx11 so it will be a new purchase for those who wish to use the newer platform.

Highly recommend the Flight Sim Estonia migrator for $10 odd bucks, makes porting over your FSX native add ons an absolute breeze.

  14. Hi guys,

As the release appears to be getting closer, I'm interested to know if James or Aiden are permitted (and willing) to give their opinions on this add-on?

    Nick

Not sure they can Nick, they would be bound by an NDA. I am lucky enough to have this bird in my possession as I am preparing an article on it for Avsim, and I can tell you it is an absolute joy to fly!

  15. Hi Luke, welcome!

Have a read of these pages

The front page at Vatpac has a lot of information. Basically you need to select the region you wish to control in, then observe for a certain period of time, get some training assistance if you need it and sit a test for your first rating.

    It is great fun.
