  1. Russell, not yet. P3D is up to version 1.4 and what they have done so far is work on the stability of the FSX platform.

Hence you don't need the highmemfix, or any other tweaks, and those annoying crashes due to uiautomationcore.dll are history.

Water and ground textures have been reworked and the engine pumps out a lot more than FSX ever did but totally stable.

They are hoping on a DX11 and 64 bit version by the time version 2.0 is available, but no timeline yet.

  2. My FSX configuration and addon's has grown over time till I have reached the point where it is having an effect on the stability of the program.

Considered X-Plane as an alternative but it's inadequate pilot client and lack of Australian Scenery is inhibiting me.

For those of you who have gone over to P3D, have you found it more stable than FSX?

FSX has for me all the things that I like in eye candy but is now getting top heavy!

    Interested in any feedback.

Lionel, it is more stable by a very long shot. Very little (if any) tweaking required. I run BP=0 and that's about all the tweaks I have needed to add, not even the Bojote tweaks, they are not needed.

I have had NO crashes on the P3D engine, (in truth i never had that many in FSX due to spending a lot of time tweaking it, but when it happened, it was a frustrating time) the only times my sim has been floored was due to a conflict with NVIDIA drivers (but it crashed my pc, not the sim) and FSINN if you dont start it in a particular way. Other than that, worrying about a CTD after a long flight is a distant memory. As for eye candy, you get plenty of it, a setting of "extremely dense" autogen in FSX is equivalent to "Dense" in P3D...but moving it to "Extremely Dense" in P3D actually shows very little performance penalty but the graphics are wonderful.

  3. That one was good...but in the days before that procedure, domestic aircraft were directed to the "Brekky Creek" where pilots would follow the huge "XXXX" sign on the roof and fly down the river....thus the River track was born and that old "unofficial" route was officialised.

STAKE BEERN CHIPS was the winner, but there were quite a few other suggestions about shenanigans at the Brekky Creek.....:D

  4. Well if it helps with the decision, I have interviewed the developers of AS2012 and REX, you will find them in Avsim....I have just completed an interview with the developer of FSGRW and it will be published this weekend, really good bunch of guys all of them.

I bought FSGRW and I am truly impressed by it. Mind you, every time I think I paid $60 for a 5Mb exe file of code I want to smak myself but when you run it, all the remorse goes away.:D

  5. Thank you for your assistance I think I have it sorted now.

On another M Dash8 matter, has anyone had a chance to try flying the dash after the 1.07 update (out a few days ago)?

    Dave

Yup, did a flight last night, flies nice. Am using ezdock and the bouncing is still there on the ground. I delete all the cameras section from the .cfg file before setting up ezdock and I think it works a little better. Flew a beautiful vnav all the way to minimums on the RNAV approach to PMQ.

  6. Yes Trent we hit on the same solution. Kirk actually nailed it when he asked if I was using a 3 letter code - and then the light started to glow. I typed it BGA63 and presto it connected. I will follow your advise and just keep my comments short - I have been using the info in the FAQ.

Thanks guys for all your help.

Just to add to all this - somehow P3D has lost (deleled) my FSUIPC setups so here I go again. At some point between this and "unexpected error - P3D is closing down" I might finally get back online.

    Cheers Guys

    Ian

    BGA 63

Ian, P3D is a bit fickle with the FSUIPC settings, specially if you go to or from Legacy mode...make sure, after you create your profiles, you make a back up of the config settings in your P3D/Modules folder....I learnt the hard way....

  7. Paul, suggest you try the free demos if anyone has them.

I use AS2012. Since they released their SP2 it is a brand new package, has its own textures, no wind shifts, like Trent said, very accurate weather forecasting and depictions. REX has fantastic textures and I believe their new add on improves the weather engine but I have not tried it.

I did trial Opus and found it terrible. With the DC-9 I would get severe wind shifts and there were issues with temperatures and winds at high altitudes. I believe some of these issues have been fixed, but I read the wind shifts are still there.

Another one I tried recently (and was very impressed) is FS Global Real Weather. it has a free limited use demo, and it was a real eye opener. It is a small program, doesnt come with textures, but the algorithm it uses actually simulates local weather conditions! For example, fly close to hills on finals in a place like Madeira and you will get the turbulence and mist generated by the terrain proximity. It has a weather planner, and the thing I liked most, you can see weather at a distance, the wx will move with the forecasted winds but will not pop nor disappear, you can actually expect to enter cloud or plan to fly around it. Winds aloft, temps, turbulence were spot on, and no wind shifts!

For now I will stay with AS2012 (not borken, no need to change), but personally am keeping an eye on FSGRW and see how it develops (early days yet, but already very promising).

  8. Hello,

I just bought a new QNIX 27" monitor, which is 120Hz capable, and I can see a few ways of going from the standard 60Hz up. Would anybody be able to recommend a profile or program for raising the refresh rate?

I am loving the sim on a big screen at 2560x1440 resolution! For $300 bucks it was a bargain!

  9. I think Lionel may be referring to FSUIPC.

    Nick

Thanks Nick, looked everywhere in FSINN and could not find it.

Never used auto save in FSUIPC, at the moment I get 2 mild bounces when I load the aircraft and from then on it is good to go, so am happy, can't wait for the service packs to start rolling in.

  10. For those of you having the following problem and are using FSInn!

If on take off you find that the Dash8-400 freezes momentarily and then recommences as though the system is stuttering, it probably has something to do with the FSinn auto save facility.

To overcome this I disabled auto save while on the ground in FSinn and the problem went away.

    I have a Intel® Core i7 CPU, 920 @ 2.67GHZ.

12GB of Ram! 64 bit operating system.

Lionel, thanks for this, I wasnt aware that FSINN has an autosave function, is in the Settings menu?

    Thanks in advance

  11. We have a workaround. Full details in the Compass forums, but it appears that VAFS detects the standard FS start engine keyboard command, which is ignored by the aircraft. It then detects your landing without further effort on the pilots part.

    JH

Yup, did a few test flights with VAFS, start engines first, then do CTL-E, you will actually see "smoke" coming from either side at the front of the Q400, no effect on the aircraft, but VAFS registers engine start.

At that point, continue as before and VAFS changes to "Taxy to Runway" status.

After the flight, you don't need to do anything special, VAFS registers engine shutdown automatically without any key presses.

Only glitch is that the landing rate is not recorded properly (so no bonuses for a good landing), but it is definitely workable.

  12. Try pressing Ctrl + E. Won't effect the engines as they are ran externally' date=' however it may trick the tracking program and trigger the start engine command. Similar issues with GSX and engine shutdown have a temporary solution of using Ctrl + Shift + F1.[/quote']

Thanks James, I was actually reading about it this morning....I will give it a try, I also had an issue where as soon as GSX finished pushback, I get "warped" back to the departure gate.... but still does not dampen the joy of this bird, a great add on!

  13. This happen today while conducting a trip from YSSY- YBNA.If your using the Dash 8 you cannot register your flight using VAFS because the system cannot tell if you have started your engines.Dash 8 doesnt use FSX so no information to VAFS.Great plane anyhow.

Yep, had the same thing, apparently FSPAssengers, AirHauler, etc plus ACARS (including VAFS) dont work with this bird, a real shame. It has been flagged and requested in their forums, so hopefully something can be done.

  14. Ben, Will & Jackson,

    Yep I downloaded the Q300 & thought I was downloading the Q400.

Will download the Q400 and perhaps have it ready for flying in 'Panic Stations"!

Lionel, send an email to Simeon at Majestic support and explain you purchased the wrong version, I am very confident they will help you out.

  15. I have just installed this craft and am disappointed with the graphics. Found them very ordinary!

Lionel, the Q400 will not be released until tonight Australia time, it is not yet available in their webpage. You didnt purchase their old Q300 by any chance, did you??
