  1. The release date is tomorrow!!!

The PRO version looks worth the wait for the upgrade, especially that they integrated 2 crew capabilities

over the internet! This is my dream, to get a virtual airline that actually runs 2 crew, wouldn't that be cool:eek:

    Daryl

Daryl, if you buy it from the Just Flight store, you can upgrade to the later releases by just paying the difference. At this stage no other store is offering this, so it is worth noting.

  2. lol sure is

Will, didn't mean to overly offend you and that wasn't aimed at only you. I just think its overdone at times, that is all.

I dont get offended by someone else's opinion Arjun, but I do find the comment disappointing coming from someone in the position of Vatpac 2, I would have thought you could have shown more maturity in it rather than stoop at calling fellow members "trolls" and "attention seekers" just because certain people have more aviation experience than you and ask questions.

I have put my hand up to help where I can in Vatpac and I have done so when I was asked to, and if asking for clarification on something makes me a troll, I feel I have nothing to apologise about.

On the other hand, I truly wish the carrying on in the Teamspeak servers and in the forums by a certain minority is put to a stop. The name calling and ridicule of other ATC or pilot members is totally uncalled for, maybe the effort at name calling and singling out "trolls" and "attention seekers" can be directed to that minority instead? I do know senior members of the Vatpac community do not go to the Teamspeak server for a reason.

    Just a thought.

  3. Mate' date=' he strapped himself into that one. All I did was press the button.[/quote']

You kiddies should know by now that I have thicker skin than some have heads.

Scott, if you are still wetting yourself mate, don't give up in the nappies, it seems you truly need them.

Now as I believe the "real life experience people wanting to get known" probably applies to me (thanks Arjun, hope you one day get the experience), and am now classified as a Troll, I put an appropriate suggestion to Trace for an Emergency Procedures Monday.

    How about it?

  4. Are you saying we should shut down the Monday event because some people are online on Sunday?

What about the Tuesday event? Friday event? Already existing Sunday event which seems to vary between getting 15 people one week and 3 the next?

Take a chill pill mate, I am not saying "we should" do anything, this is an ideas discussion forum, is it not?

I simply asked a question, if you dont know the answer, I will wait for someone who does.

  5. Greetings...is there a reason why Milk Run event is held on Mondays??? We seem to get a lot of traffic on Sunday nights, and I noticed some Europeans as well, as soon as we open ATC...

Would it be open for consideration moving the regular event to a Sunday night to cater for increased traffic, and hopefully attract overseas fliers as well? or is that the reason it is on Monday nights?

  6. Geez Will, I've only had the job for a couple of days :o

Good call on your suggestions above. In particular I agree that coords will be an interesting prospect and more talking will be required. To that end, I'll shoot a PM to our illustrious IT department and we'll organize a dedicated room on Teamspeak restricted to those (lucky / unlucky) few who are actually controlling an event related position.

Keep the suggestions coming. The more ideas we have to play with, the more we'll have available to us on the night.

Given that our usual mantra of making our hobby "as real as it gets" is being somewhat relaxed for a short time, I would love to see some, shall we say, slightly less-than-realistic ideas on how to approach the whole radar outage issue.

    Cheers,

    Tracy

LOL...what job is that? i didnt know you got a "promotion".

All the same, kudos for the initiative, maybe next time open it up about a week before the event so we can get suggestions and pesterings out of the way!

    :teeth:

  7. Will, now you're getting the hang of it ;)

Many events have clear and firm guidelines on how to operate, Panic Stations being the one that comes to mind primarily. This one is about loosening the strings a little and letting both pilots and ATC alike make the decisions. I realize this may be for better or worse, but really, what's wrong with that once in a while? Is it really worse than being told to go around on short finals because of goats on the runway? (Yes, that's been pulled on me).

If you want to simulate aircraft fading from radar because of the technical aspects of the real world system, go ahead. If you want to do full procedural ops, go ahead. Use your imagination whilst trying to make it work as best you can......oh, and try to have FUN whilst you're doing it.

Ultra realism should be shelved for this event. I promise that there will be other events in the not too distant future that WILL take realism seriously :)

    Tracy

Definitely nothing wrong with that, it is just that it has taken nearly a page of postings to clarify what could have been made a little clearer to start with, but now that we have the full picture, all good.

I would suggest controllers advise aircraft entering their sector of the limitations you are having and wether you are exercising radar or procedural control appropriately, and if needed, explain what is required from the pilots.

Also, brush up on coord as well as handoff requirements.

  8. Several years ago, one may just have easily asked the same questions about US1549 or QFA32. One of the awesome things about our online environment is that just occasionally, we CAN and DO have things happen that temporarily shift the focus from REALISM to FUN.

I am deliberately NOT saying that this is required. It will be up to ATC to decide on the night exactly how they handle the situation by extrapolating their knowledge (yes, including procedural) and experience into the unknown.

I disagree. I would expect SIDs and STARs to be used almost as per normal but possibly in conjunction with time based separation. As for YSSY where STARs terminate in vectors, I don't see anything wrong with something along the lines of "ABC, from BOOGI enter right downwind 16R, at 17DME SY turn right direct CATHY, adjust your speed to cross CATHY at time 52" or maybe "QFA123, at TAMMI cancel the STAR, track TAMMI dct GLF SBKWI OVILS CATHY for ILS rwy 16R, report passing each waypoint" or a plethora of other possibilities.

For any "What if.....?" event, it doesn't necessarily need to be procedurally correct, it just needs to work! :D

100% correct. In any case, even if you could set your vis range to 10,000nm, it wouldn't help you deal with this scenario in any way. :P

As a final word to all those who are intimately familiar with how it would all come together in the real world, I submit that perhaps YOUR challenge for this event will be to see if you can let go of all that and enjoy the moment. ;)

    Tracy

Trace, I see what you are saying, but really, you want an event where pilots and atc reduce the efficiency of secondary radar, but the event doesn't say how much primary or how much procedural we can use(I know your answer of "at atc's discretion). Throw in here pilots with aeroplanes that can't, won't or are unable to read estimates, and yes it can be a challenge but without specifying what you are trying to achieve and how, it is all very airy-fairy.

So in short (let's try again), we simulate lack of MSSr and if the controller wants, uses primary, if he wants, he uses procedural, is that it?

  9. Primary doesn't show altitude or any other transponder info (squawk codes or speeds for instance) only position. (+ sign on your radar and very little else. - what you see when a pilot is squawking standby.)

I know perfectly well what primary does mate, my question was related to HOW realistic is this going to be?

If you are looking at simulating primary only, what is available to controllers? some aircraft can't squawk ident in the VATSIM world, so it negates a useful tool from the real world. Also, in the real world, a TAR will have a range of 150nm (average) with or without wobbulation controlled. I am probably one of the few lucky sods to have had a radar failure (MSSR) in the real world, so I know what it feels like (no, I didnt get my knowledge from Google ).

So to break it down, if aircraft are within "normal" Vatpac range, we can control using Primary radar only, anything else is procedural. Is that it?

  10. So, what if urgent maintenance needed to be carried out on radar systems?

On Monday, March 25th, we're going to examine the effect this would have on operations during the Milk Run Monday event.

At 0945z (8:45pm local), all secondary radar systems on the "J Curve" will be taken offline, leaving only primary radar operational. It is expected the outage will last for approximately 1 hour. At the designated time, ATC operators within the "J Curve" will request all aircraft to switch their transponders to mode Standby. This means ATC will be able to see where you are, but that's all they'll see. There will be no information available to them on altitude or speed and procedural operations will kick in, similar to what you would expect during Oceanic flights. Special consideration will need to be given to things such as regular reporting points, and particularly separation standards. Pilots should expect regular requests from ATC for position reports.

I will be around in some capacity (most likely a TWR position) to initiate and end the outage period.

On completion of radar maintenance, all aircraft will be assigned new squawk codes for re identification.

Pilot participation is NOT a requirement for the evening, it's an invitation. If you want to fly as normal, let ATC know and they will be happy to accommodate you.

The events team looks forward to your participation and hopes you enjoy a little non standard ops.

    Tracy

So just to clarify, where you have a primary feed, you are allowed to still provide radar control services, anywhere else where you dont have Primary returns (therefore no radar control possible), controllers are to revert to procedural, is this correct?

What will the range of the Primary be? 150nm? 250nm?

  11. Saw the announcement, looks like BBS will take the lead (for now) and give us an A330!!! Aerosoft and FSL have announced an A330 for next year, possible the year after, so this is a great development for those (like me) who would love to get their hands on a late-edition A330.

It will have the -200, -300 and Freighter variants.

    Info and screenshots here.

If anybody flies the BBS A320, would love to hear any comments about the depth of simulation we can expect.

  12. it can be temperamental....it took me ages, but got a safe way of starting it.

Fire up P3D...put the aircraft at departure aerodrome, start your Weather program and set it up. When you are ready to go, start FSINN from the Add Ons menu, and dont touch anything.

If you change screens it will hang. Just let it initialise.

For UT2 I am using that freeware tool to enable it, two clicks and it is done, it uses nothing but UT2 unless you set up certain aircraft to use other AI repaints.
