no requirement to follow real world ATIS - in fact, this could be problematic, as weather on VATSIM could be different to this.
It is the responsibility of the pilot in command to choose the appropriate runway, taking consideration of a variety of factors, one of which, is the traffic scenario, but this is only one of several things to consider.
If you have been chastised - feel free to email me the details.
Shannon
Thought I replied.. I'll try again...
Thanks for the above. I was 100% sure I was following the correct procedures, but thought I'd check just in case. I think Arjun has hit it on the head just as I suspected.
PM re "umbrage" follows!

It's probably one of those people thats been here for a while, but not long enough to know the reality behind VATSIM and software constrictions on various simulators.
Thanks Arjun, much as I suspected. Just wanted confirmation that I hadn't missed something. I use FS9 and SB, so I rely on online ATC ATIS or offline METAR and UNICOM.

Gents, advice please.
Scenario: inbound to SY tonight, no ATC, checked METAR, wind 250/15, elected to land R16R. Did so. Was then chastised by another pilot that I had landed on the wrong runway. Discussion ensued that I should have complied with the ATIS b/cast on 126.25 (R/W SY ATIS freq). Never heard of this but I checked and nothing there. Am I missing something here? The other pilots in the discussion were adamant that I should comply with this "mysterious" ATIS (verging on the rude I might add..)
Is this a SB vs FSInn issue maybe? I'm on SB and this ATIS freq produces nothing.
As far as I'm concerned, with no ATC, each pilot selects his own runway and sorts out conflicts on UNICOM. I've done it this way forever with no problems.
Lastly, the complaint... I take umbrage at some whipper-snapper texting me "LANDING WRONG RUNWAY", yes, in caps. (Rant over).
But to the core issue, the "mysterious" ATIS, which I can't receive and obviously can't comply with........
Guidance here please...
cheers

Gents,
Not convinced I'm getting actual VATSIM Wx when online. I assume it's an FS9 setting.
Choices are : Real world static / Real World / User Defined.
Which one should I select to ensure I'm actually using VATSIM Wx?
Windows XP Pro
FS9

Shannon,
The low response may be due to the lack? of advertising of this survey. Until this post I was totally unaware of it. I check the site/forum every evening and don't recall seeing it advertised.

Any PMDG B744 experts out there? (FS9)
How do I access the MOD RTE LEGS page in the FMC? The manual makes reference to this page but not how to access it. I want to utilise the "Intercept Course" function.

Thanks both Steves....
just what I wanted. Had an online discussion with a TWR controller re TWR procedures recently. Specifically who contacts whom after coming online as TWR. His response was that he was going to report me for abuse. Which he did! Resolved in my favour by online SUP.
Occured to me then that in other similar circumstances it would be down to aforementioned "he said/she said". Nice to have some evidence handy.
Shouldn't happen I know, but I'd hate to have my (good?) reputation sullied maliciously.

Gents..
As a pilot connected to VATSIM, I receive a chat message from a controller.....
is there a way to record/save said message? Just asking, because at the subsequent "court of enquiry" we can avoid the "he said/she said" scenario.
Screen shot is obvious, but cumbersome... must be a better way?

Gents..
Probably dumb question, but I can't get weather updates in FS9/SB4. As far as I know I've ticked all the boxes (I think) After apparently downloading VATSIM Wx,(in this case YBRK) nothing happens. Using the "B" key, the local QNH does not appear, just spits me out to 1013.
Settings: FS9.. "User defined Wx"... should I select "Real World Wx"
SB4.... ticked "Enable SB Weather control"
Should I be using SB3 instead?
Any ideas gents....
cheers

Another (probably) stupid question..
Using AtisMaker.. bottom right hand corner, where do I get the Voice ATIS frequency from? Do I use the real freq as per ASA's charts?

Excellent posts above. Just a pity the protagonists I referred to in my original post (whilst Australians) are not VATPAC members so I assume they won't see the above eruditions. Pity that really, they could do with some (constructive) information.
Stephen, totally agree with your "heirarchy", that way most of us will be on the same page. PM'd the guys concerned with basically what you said. Hope it helps them, they were obviously young guys.
