Absolutely, and by the time I can log in, 8PM, both towers centres and approaches are online. The traffic is also decent enough to allow a split.

Must have been a very good night.

That was a very different community to the active members we have now.

Correct. You can notice the drop happening in late 2017 to early 2018.

  2. Hi Bryan,

If you're using VRC as you said in the title, then it's pretty simple.

I have my main VATPAC folder for VRC set out like this, with the contents of the sector file zip extracted.

    image.png.e7d104f79a2594aab20670ef4f66e0ae.png

The folder names match the positions, except for TMA/TWR/GND. For GND, TWR, and TMA controlling you're going to want to open the "TMA" sector file for that particular airport. For example, if I wanted ML_TWR, I would go to VRC_TMA -> vic_tma.sct2, and open that in VRC. You can then zoom into the melbourne airport layout.

Tristan's suggestion of Euroscope works if you're willing to take a steeper learning curve for the software and TAAATSMod. The ES package allows you to simply open a file for an exact position and it will be set up for you. However, if you're just getting started, I'd suggest VRC. It gives you the basics. Of course your tower course mentor can help you with whatever option you choose.

    Hope this helps

I thought the Departure positions at both Sydney & Melbourne were non-standard and hence cannot be opened without the prior approval of a Senior Staff member or a Senior Controller? I had a look at the calendar entry for MRM and can't find anything suggesting otherwise.

It’s precedent from long ago but I don’t think it’s codified.. feel free to correct me

  4. IT could easily add an extra field to the profile on the forums. Of course on the network people can put it in the "Real Name" field, and I wouldn't yell at someone for including it in their Teamspeak name either.

Oh its all good, I just thought because I had to keep muting my teamspeak, and then unmute to coord with tassie. It was difficult

Don't be afraid to ask people to leave the channel if they aren't using it for the correct purpose. And of course if they don't comply, ask a staff member ;)

Of course there can be discretion if everyone in the channel is happy to chat but otherwise...

  6. I don't see any possible negative outcome from Tracy's post and seeing it being reported instead of discussed in here is kinda poor in my opinion.

Nathan, I think as with most things we look at the situation at the time and see if it is an appropriate use of the forums as David did in this case. I think it wouldn't be too far off the mark to assume that we now have a precedent in this matter.

Richard  there has been some chat about this. SWIFT is not an approved piece of software yet. Members that use it will be in violation of CoC A7

    1. To log onto the VATSIM.net network, pilots must have downloaded and installed approved pilot client software and controllers must have downloaded and installed approved controller client software. Approved software is listed and a download link is provided on the VATSIM.net website. Each of these programs comes with operating instructions. In addition, there are many tutorials that have been developed which instruct in the use of  these programs. Since flying and providing ATC are extremely intense activities, a person should become familiar in the basic use of these programs prior to logging on to the VATSIM.net network.

The link to approved software can be found at https://www.vatsim.net/pilots/software

It has actually since been approved by the BoG as of yesterday  https://www.vatsim.net/documents/approved-software

Laminar might want to take a look at the highly anticipated beta for Blender 2.8. I was reading the release notes and it is introducing eevee. This is the holy grail of rendering in real time  as the animation and modelling are being created. Hard to conceive. Many a time I have set my computer rendering over night or even days to produce a simple 30 second ray traced animation. And now they boast this will be done in real time. If this is the future them I am getting myself a top notch GPU. I am eagerly anticipating delving into this feature of Blender 2.8 as soon as I can set aside some time and money for a new rig :( .

Blender is open source, so it wouldn't surprise me if some of "eevee's" code happens to Blend (see what I did there? ;) ) into future releases of X-Plane and dare I say P3D. I certainly hope so!

I'll bring this up to the guy who made the X-Plane Developers article on Discord

  9. Quigs is correct. Generally if there a group of people in one room and a couple in the other it is likely the other two are having a "private" conversation, which unless it is obvious they aren't I wouldn't intrude. Same goes for the help room. Again ATC coord rooms are for ATC coordination only however staff members can monitor them.

If you need any help on the TS, please don't hesitate to ask someone, we don't bite xD

    G'day.

Would love to attend the airshow however the CFO has denied the requested funds and has sentenced me to watch the V8s circulate our local streets of Adelaide. I commiserate with the drivers. Expecting temperatures in excess of 37c. I am considering watching from my inflated armchair in the pool with drink in hand!

For those that are attending the airshow, I would appreciate it if you could put forward a case to the organisers to send an F-35 or two to overfly the V8 event in Adelaide. I intend to have my camera armed and ready whilst bobbing in the pool. :)
