  1. You’d probably be better off having it in a restaurant nearby. E.G. Parafield and Adelaide have a restaurant that has a big glass screen that allows you to look on the airfield. Alternatively you could wheel a barbecue out to a viewing place, again like Adelaide, and have a barbecue out there. Not sure what they would think about you if you were to wheel a barbecue down the road though lol

  2. Agree with everyone that discord was great for community involvement. It was a platform that most people of our community have and use and was a way to build community. The issue was people breaking the rules and having no disciplinary action taken against them.

As Staff members, which is anyone who can see this thread, you are able to enforce the Discord and Teamspeak policy. You won’t be judged by senior staff or Directors for the decisions that you make. People are able to appeal decisions about the policy to the board so if you see someone break the rules, enact the punishment necessary under the policy and based on previous behaviour.  I know that when I was a DD I was scared to enforce it for fear of being criticised. I can tell you though that being a Director, I would not judge anyone’s choices of bans or anything, I have learnt that over the past couple months.

If you fear you’re gonna loose friends, I know this is tough but are they really great friends anyway if they are bullying people or breaking rules?

Are you afraid of getting a reputation for being that one guy that enforces the policy? If we all enforce it that, most likely won’t happen and if it does, who cares?? At least you are punishing people for breaking the rules.

Trust me, we’re here to work together and to make VATPAC a better place and we can really do that. I know this went on a bit of a tangent and I don’t even know if that’s what people needed to hear but there you go :)

    Love Dan

  3. ATC Training

We're going well. Restructuring has happened which includes two new Deputy Director positions, Deputy Director ATC Administration (VATPAC13) and Deputy Director ATC Standards (VATPAC23) these positions have been filled by Cam Tyson and Ryan Steffe respectively. For staffing, see my google spreadsheet in the Training Forums under "ATC Training Staff Roster." I wrote up a document with all the positions and how to be promoted in ATC Training, you can find that in the "Position Descriptions" forum. Currently we have 7 instructors and 6 mentors which is adequate at the moment.

I have made moves to be more transparent and democratic within the ATC Training department, I consider myself as equal with my 2 deputies and think of it that we just have different duties delegated between each other. I will not have final say but it will be down to the three of us. I have started 2 Facebook chats, one for me and the 2 deputies and one for the entire Training Department where it is a safe place to voice opinions about me or whatever they want their say on. A forum has also been started in the ATC Training Forum called "Ideas and Concerns" and is also a safe place to post stuff.

Currently, the TMA assessment is still in the works and plans for a second location for the Tower Exam are in the works as well. Document updates are also happening and so are updates and changes to the mentoring program. Of course any ideas that members of the training team have will be heard!!

Team is going well, everyone is doing a good job and we're taking one day at a time.

I recently flew into YMML on a quiet Sunday afternoon/evening and on approach into Melbourne I had @Nicolas Tessede on ML_TWR and despite being new he was really good and gave clear instructions and knew what he was doing and saying in terms of taxiways and gate location. I believe he deserves the feedback because whilst being new he is really good!

  5. The Deputy Director, ATC Standards (VATPAC23) is a new position in the ATC Department which requires an application process for members in the training department. The reason it is an internally appointed position is to ensure that the person in the role understands the needs of the department and understands the current issues and situations going on. The Deputy Director, ATC Training position has been renamed to Deputy Director, ATC Administration. As I have stated to the training team and board members, I see the two Deputy Directors and myself as equal but with different duties designated to each other. We'll make all decisions together, meaning that I will not have final say on any decision that happens in the ATC Department. In my eyes, it will be a democratic department and not a dictatorship.

With that in mind, I would like to congratulate Ryan Steffe on being appointed to this new position. Ryan once held the Deputy Director, ATC Training position and did a fantastic job at it and I have no doubt that he will do a great job in this new role. Please join me in congratulating him and making him feel welcome :)
