  2. Hi again Nick,

Yeah it's a self driven theory course. Once you've finished reading all the material, you request an instructor through the booking system who will ask you questions about the theory and then assign you the theory exam if he thinks that you are ready. After you've completed the theory exam, you again book an instructor for your checkride flight, you can choose which instructor you want, so yeah you can pick a VATPAC one. However you don't have to use the booking system, you can email one of us local instructors and organise something.

    hope that helps!

  3. Hi Nicholas,

I can answer your first question, VATPAC doesn't offer the pilot training anymore however there are many different Authorised Training Organisations (ATO) that offer P2. I recommend VATSTAR ATO which is a standalone ATO that offers P1-P5 and are working with VATSIM to create the P6 rating. Here is a link to their website: http://www.vatstar.com/ The theory is all American however you can use most of your knowledge from them to fly in Australia. The checkride flights can be undertaken in Australia depending on your instructor. There are a few Australian instructors from VATPAC, this includes myself and Joshua Micallef who between us cover Australian operations and try and help out the Aussie's wanting to do their pilot ratings.

I'm sure someone else can probably word a response to your second question better than I can :)

  4. Hey Boys,

Today I had the opportunity to go to the Adelaide TCU for the day. It was really cool to see what we do at home compared to the real world. One thing I took away from the day was how a controller takes over the position from a current controller (I.E. If ML-SNO_CTR was logging off and a controller was replacing him) and I learnt this acronym which might come in handy online. RAWFNTO

R - Runways. The current controller specifies the runways active at the different aerodromes in the TMA

A - Airspace & Airspace Releases. The current controller specifies the current airspace layout including pointing out current restricted airspace and parachuting ops airspace

W - Present & Forecast Weather. Weather that may be relevant to the controller taking over, also a good time to advise the controller of ATIS information and Approach types

F - Facilities/Frequencies/Equipment. The current controllers operating i.e. Adelaide Approach North, East, West and their frequencies.

N - Navaids & NOTAMS. Pretty self explanatory, just NOTAMS that are current. Also a good time to advise if the Localiser isn't working or other navaids

T - Traffic & Separation. Traffic that is currently in the airspace and any other traffic that might apply to the controller. Also advise the incoming controller of what each aircraft is doing

O - Outstanding Information. I.E. anything not covered above that may be relevant

Hope this information will be helpful in making your Handover experiences realistic ones xD

  5. The problem is however, that there will probably be an age limit. If you have a look through the past meet ups like the one at Moorabin last year, you had to be 18.

  6. Hi Lucas,

Sorry about the late reply, I've just flown into Singapore from Adelaide so I'm a little bit smashed right now haha

I didn't read your comment properly, sorry about that.

In regards to the settings, it's in FSX. General settings when you are in the game. If the bar doesn't show up in game, press alt

    Hope this helps

  7. Hi All,

Just hopefully a quick one for ya all. I've been receiving a lot of conflicting data recently and you'd think me being from Adelaide would be able to answer this question but... Is Parafield a Procedural Tower?

In one place on the website it says it is. But on another it says it isn't? (because there is no document)

    http://prntscr.com/e0ht6i

    http://prnt.sc/e0hsfy

I would think that it isn't but I am not entirely sure!

  8.

What do people think of a Sunday 3pm-7pm timeframe?

I think Sundays in that time frame is a pretty good time as usually there is a fair bit of traffic late afternoon on a Sunday. Might be able to throw a mini milk run, but in saying that the main Milk Run is the day after. Or even just something simple that might bring traffic to a different location not usually staffed.

  9. Hey Riley,

If you are looking for good but cheap computer parts, try MSY technologies. If you haven't already haha. If you can, build the computer yourself, you will save maybe 100-200 dollars from Labor costs

  10. I thought the applications were already open. A message went up on the VATPAC Facebook this week saying how you could apply.

    ** Important **

Earlier this week we posted some information in regards to an event we're hosting, FNO.

We're seeking expressions of interest from all rated ATC personnel so we know how many positions to staff.

To provide your expression of interest for this event could you please either post below your rating or email through to [email protected]

    Thanks in advance!
