  2. Hi Sean,

Yeah, so we should be making sure that we display where we are extending and providing top down services. When I do it, I have it on the same line like this:

EXTENDING: WOL, TBD. TOP DOWN: YMML, YSSY, YPAD

or something similar that gets the message through. What you have is good. Generally I'll put the ATIS on the most major airport in my actual sector first, and then in one of the sectors I'm extending if somebody below me logs on. So say if I was controlling Snowy, I would put one on Melbourne. Then if Approach or Tower came I'll relinquish it to them and put one in Adelaide or Sydney for example if I'm providing top down services to those aerodromes.

I don't think I've seen (b)(ii) complied with for years.

Hence another good reason for a reminder such as the one put out yesterday, and hopefully our controllers will read it ;).

The document was updated back in July of last year adding these changes. This was the NOTAM I think: https://forums.vatpac.org/index.php/topic,18202.0.html

  3. Hi Sean,

I believe that Tracy is reminding the SUPs via appropriate channels about our extended coverage stuff and reminding them to check our controller information.

I was not saying that you had not done what is asked for in section 2.2.1.1 (b), in fact I'm pretty sure you said you did that in your first post! My reminder was just so we can remind people to put in where they are extending and providing top down services in their controller information. Hopefully SUPs will check our controller information now that Tracy has reminded them of our extended coverage and top down services.

    Dan

  4. In light of recent events, I would like to remind all Enroute Controllers to make sure you are adhering to section 2.2.1.1 (b) of the Controller Information and ATIS Policy.

This section outlines the need to display in your controller information where you are extending and where you are providing top down services. I encourage you all to have another read of this when you get time.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, feel free to email myself at atc[at]vatpac.org or Richard at operations[at]vatpac.org

  6. I regret to announce that Kirk Christie has resigned from his position as a Senior Instructor in the ATC Training Department.

On behalf of the training department and community, I'd like to thank Kirk for all the hard work that he has put into the Training Department over the last few years in training our next generation of controllers. We wish Kirk all the best in his future endeavours and personal/work related commitments.

Good luck Kirk and thank you from the VATPAC community!

  7. Hi Sean,

Thanks for that and welcome to VATPAC!

The broken link must have been missed during our review of the course. I have updated the broken links however the video was working fine for me. I’ve added a direct link to YouTube for the video as well.

Let me know if you have any further issues.

    Dan

  8. Hi Brad,

Welcome to VATPAC and the life of a virtual ATC!

In regards to your query, in the ATC Academy and the Tower Course, there is a video about setting up VRC and connecting to the network as an observer. You can also find it on Youtube. See if you can find it but if you have some issues let me know :)

If you have any questions or need any help with your training let us know on the forums or you can email us at [email protected]

    Dan

  9. Hi Everyone,

Over the past couple of weeks, the training department has been working extremely hard to bring you a new and improved Moodle!

I am very pleased to announce that this new Moodle has been released and is ready to be used by all students. Members of the training department have been working tirelessly to fix all the broken links and broken files from the old Moodle and they have all done a fantastic job getting this ready for you all.

The new Moodle features Single Sign On, meaning that you now login to Moodle using your VATSIM account. The new Moodle also features a new way that students undertake the exam where instead of distributing passwords, the exam will be assigned to the student's account by the Training Administrator. This adds an extra layer of security to our theory exams.

If anyone has any issues with the Moodle or has any questions please email me at [email protected]

  10. Most of you might remember a little while back that the founders regarded VATPAC as one of the leaders in ATC Training. https://forums.vatpac.org/index.php/topic,18140.0.html

I just wanted to reiterate and say thankyou to all of you for the hard work that you have put in over this year and that the training team continues to run strong with no drop in training requests. We have seen people come and go this year with 4 new mentors joining us and unfortunately the resignation of Senior Instructor, Kirk Christie from the training team.

Thanks to the new mentors working hard mentoring students, the instructors have been able to conduct more assessments meaning we have seen a massive drop in wait times for both Assessments and Mentoring so really well done guys!

Here are some statistics for the year in comparison to 2016. The 2017 statistics will also be in the Q4 report.

    2016:

    Tower - 13 Competent, 13 Terminated

    Procedural Tower - 5 Competent

    TMA - 8 Competent, 7 Terminated

    Enroute - 8 Competent, 1 terminated

    Oceanic Endorsement - 3 Competent

Total: 37 Competent, 21 Terminated, 58 Total Requests

    2017:

    Tower - 31 Competent, 7 Terminated

    Procedural Tower - 7 Competent

    TMA - 23 Competent, 6 Terminated

    Enroute - 8 Competent

    Oceanic Endorsement - 5 Competent

Total: 74 Competent, 13 Terminated, 87 Total Requests

As you can see, we have had an enormous increase in requests and we have also processed a lot more students this year as well. The Tower course continues to be the most popular course but the TMA course has attracted some more members this year as well. The Enroute course remains constant but I would expect an increase in requests next year from the amount of TMA requests we have processed this year.

This is a fantastic outcome and I would like to congratulate all of you for a great year of ATC Training. See you guys next year for what is hopefully another very successful year for ATC Training!

  11. Please join me in congratulating Harrison Scott for recently being appointed as part of the training team as a new TMA Mentor! Harrison has shown great skill in a training role and is most definitely capable of training up the next generation of TMA controllers. Congratulations Harrison!
