    Ladies and Gentleman!

The Events Team is proud to present the latest major event for this year, TMA Turnaround - Sunshine Coast!

What is TMA Turnaround you may ask? Well, We love having competitions featured in our events to keep everyone participating for as long as possible. With this in mind, The aim will be too fly as many sectors between the nominated airports as possible, in the 4 hour period. We will have tracking in place using VATPAC Statistics. It requires that you fly from Gate to Gate, Shutting down your engines prior to commencing the next sector.

    The Details

We will be featuring Robert Fluke's amazing Sunshine Coast scenery as our go to/from airport. As we have received feedback about lack of major GA events, This event is fully inclusive of both GA aircraft and our Classic Jets. To split the traffic, The event will have two categories, GA and Non GA. All GA Traffic will operate between Archerfield and Sunshine Coast, While Non GA (Jets) will operate between Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

To ensure fairness, Aircraft operating under the GA Category will need to be below 5700KG's MTOW. All other aircraft will be required to operate from Gold Coast in the Non GA Category to qualify for the event.

We have planned routes for the flight to ensure traffic will be able to transition easily between the two airports. Please see the below routes for the flight.

    YBCG-YBSU

    CG Q69 SU

    YBSU-YBCG

    SU W207 SURPO W709 VIMOL W192 CG

VFR Aircraft can plan as they wish. Clearances will be available to enter Controlled Airspace or you can navigate around and remain outside the Brisbane TMA.  Any aircraft that don't file the route above can expect delays/holding.

Due to the size of Sunshine Coast and the layout of the Airspace, It may be necessary to carry holding fuel! Before logging on, Please check which airport has less departures at the time to ensure traffic is evenly spread across the TMA.

With some fantastic scenery available for Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, We hope to see some fantastic pictures!

    Version 1

  3. Hey all

I'll be in Melbourne tomorrow and wanted to try and meet up with some familiar voices. I'm meeting with a couple of people at the Flight Deck Bar & Grill @ Moorabbin @ Midday, and would like to extend the invitation to the community. Over 18's only. This is not an official VATPAC gathering, Rather just a invitation to catch up with some friends :)

  4. Ultimately, It's because our Social media outlets serve as a Notice Board/Calendar. We don't post content other than our events or major announcements which also don't really require input.

I would be happy to look into running additional post's on a daily/every second day  frequency with pictures and/or questions which will engage an audience.

The simple fact at this time is, we don't post engaging content.

  5. To support some of the local community we all will meet outside the Child DayCare centre.. sound like a plan?

Why do we always have to meetup at your school  :-[

  6. QJE is Q-jet everywhere the 717's operate. Including Hobart, Cairns, Canberra, Darwin, Melbourne etc.

JTE is Jetex anywhere the BAe146/RJ100's fly. Adelaide Perth or Darwin.

Skippers/Network aviation use registration callsigns, and VH-XUD is "X-ray Uniform Delta" wherever you fly in Australia.

Network actually use NWK now with pronunciation 'Netlink'  :D

  7. Hi All,

On behalf of the VATPAC Events department, I would like to announce the introduction of Monthly Focus Regions. We have received feedback from several members in the community that they would like to see events held in locations other than Sydney, Melbourne and the familiar East Coast. Taking this onboard, We will trial having several events focused around a particular region/State in VATPAC.

This April will see the Focus turned on Western Australia. Events including MRM, Australia Online and VFR Ops will be based around Western Australia.

Also in W.A this month will be our coordinated Iron Mic effort and a TBA Major Event.

While we have tried similar things in the past, We have struggled to get traffic away from the East Coast. So that this can be successful we ask pilots to give flying in a different region a crack. Instead of flying MEL-SYD in a MRM, Fly PER-KGI! It's the same amount of flight time!

For ATC, We encourage you to check out not only Perth, but some of Western Australia's more remote Towers such as Karratha, Port Headland or even work on some class D ops at Jandakot. It is also crucial to make this successful that you staff up W.A positions for our scheduled events rather than the East Coast.

We welcome feedback regarding our Focus Regions and events which can be directed to [email protected] or through the forums.

  8. Hi All,

Iron Mic is something we haven't coordinated in some time here at VATPAC but this April, It will be making a return.

    85f22da3-9a88-45db-bc6d-3b9c522d5ccc.jpg

    What is Iron Mic?

Iron Mic is a weekly competition that VATSIM holds which recognizes a position with the most hours logged on the network. It is broken into 3 categories; TWR, APP and CTR. The position in each category that logs the most online hours over a 7 day period wins the Iron Mic.

    Where? When?

Following our Focus on Western Australia this month, Iron Mic will be centered around Perth. It will run from Monday 10th of April to Sunday 16th April. The positions which should be utilized are PH_TWR, PH_APP and ML_ESP_CTR.

    How can I get involved?

There are no rostered ATC positions and we invite any controller to get involved. While Ground and Delivery aren't included in the hours, If Perth Tower is full, We encourage you to logon to Jandakot Tower (If you are S3 Rated or have your Procedural tower rating)! Otherwise, Logon to Ground and Delivery! Although these won't count towards our Iron Mic.

If you're a pilot, please come and give our controllers some fun! The more traffic, the more enjoyable it will be for our controllers to continue staffing up the TMA.

How do we know about our progress?

Click on this link (http://fsmine.dhis.org/stats/showstats.cgi) to view all the VATSIM ATC stats for the week.

Remember, Our aim is to keep the TWR, APP and CTR positions open as much as possible. Coordinate with other controllers to ensure maximum coverage of the Perth positions.

VATSIM has set out a few rules regarding Iron Mic which can be viewed here https://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=11100

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

  9. Hi All,

If you are no longer able to attend, Please let me know A.S.A.P.

Controllers who weren't allocated a position or didn't apply are more than welcome to logon to other positions however please note the positions rostered above are reserved from 0030-0330.

Thanks and apologies for the delay!

  10. They're currently performing Upgrades to 03/21 to aid CAT III ILS. This upgrade started prior to the announcement of the 787 and is expected completion by 2018. The lighting upgrades is phase 2 :)

I also saw an article regarding the State Government looking at possible sites for an alternate to PER for Heavy Diversions a couple weeks back.

I think Airservices may have gotten sick of Emirates complaining!  ;D

  11. Hi Dave,

All functions visible should be working, You just need to make sure it's setup.

At the top, You need to select your position to get started, Then click Submit.

While the fields will not auto populate, It will come up with boxes which you can click. See Picture Below.

    aa42526105.png

By Clicking YMML, It will populate the box with the METAR. This concept is standard across all sections. When you click YMML on chart search, Or enter the ICAO, It will populate the list of charts available from Airservices.

Hope this helps/answers your question? :P

  12.

Yep you try fly VFR and type your intentions. CTAF should be the preferred option for everything as it is in real world.

I can't even do it flying IFR  ;D

  13. Hi, I have just joined and started flying in these 'events'.  I was monitoring 126.7 but herd noone else on the CTAF, and I was unaware of 122.8. It wasn't until Dan messaged saying that people need to communicate that I thought people must have voice, but monitoring both these frequencies I still herd noone.  This was my second VFR flight event and was starting to think these were just a free flight.

Are these CTAF frequencies 'operational' on FSINN as I have never herd any comms on these frequencies?  I am not sure if I need to adjust settings.... any help accepted.

    Hi Rob,

If using FSINN, The CTAF frequencies are operational and should automatically connect to the correct voice channel if you have a VATPAC FSINN file downloaded (Not sure if this still exists).

There is no VATSIM requirement to broadcast intentions on CTAF and definitely not on voice so it may be a case of nobody talking when your listening  :-[

Unicom 122.800 is for Major aerodromes with Class C Airspace when local ATC is offline or when it's not necessary to be connected to a CTAF.

It's also not a requirement to have voice, In Fact, VATPAC was one of the only Divisions to utilize the voice feature in FSINN for Unicom and CTAF which was great however, With new clients that support Xplane, P3D etc. They don't include the feature of being able to connect to private voice channels for Unicom and CTAF voice.

It's always a good idea when flying somewhere with traffic to send your intentions over text as anyone who is tuned to the frequency will receive this information. :)
