Hi All,
VATSIM/VATPAC has accepted an invitation to the Australian Aviation Expo this weekend (19th August) in Brisbane (YBBN)!

For those who can't make it, We would love your assistance as well! We will likely be setting up an ATC station and would love to show the expo why members choose VATSIM to enhance their simulator experience. During the times of the event (10:00AM - 16:00PM AEST) we would encourage pilots and also other controllers to visit Brisbane. Both IFR and VFR traffic will be welcome.
For those members who are local to Brisbane and would be interested in participating, You can book free tickets online here http://www.aviationaustralia.aero/aviation-expo/
Date: Saturday 19 August 2017
Time: 10am to 4pm
Location: 15-25 Boronia Road, Brisbane International Airport (Or YBBN if participating on VATSIM)

Did somebody say Monday? Pop on down to your regular VATPAC event, Milk Run Monday. Tonight's edition includes Windshear with Runway 09 Active at Melbourne, Runway 07 and reduced visibility in Haze at Sydney and Enroute winds in excess of 150kts at FL380!
Because we love friendly competition here at VATPAC, Let's see who can fly MEL-SYD and SYD-MEL the fastest. Record your time from Takeoff to Landing and post it below! We'll announce a winner later this evening

I think I'm being a little picky here but anyways.
Here is JST439, current flight plan filed is this: DCT APAGI Q53 ISKIM Q94 CANTY H119 ML
The timeline looks like this (1) http://prntscr.com/fwb102 this is the original filed flight plan.
After placing the STAR into the flight plan like this: DCT APAGI Q53 ISKIM Q94 CANTY H119 ARBEY ARBEY9A/34I
The timeline looks like this (2) http://prntscr.com/fwb1ds see how the time changes...
Ryan, Based on what the others have been saying and my basic understanding of TFMS, You are still assigning a runway to the aircraft. That is why the estimate is changing because the assigned runway is different and TFMS works off the Distance from FF to Runway. If you were to assign a different STAR but keep the same runway, I don't think the timings would change.

Just an Idea for the home page. We could create some banner's with stock images kind of thing advising the community of updated sector files/MATS etc. These could be hyperlinked to the page or document??
Just keeps something happening in that space when the events team is a bit behind

Hi Tony,
Welcome to the forums mate! Thanks for jumping in and flying
As a controller, We would rather have to repeat an instruction than have the pilot perform the wrong command so if you ever get stuck, Just feel free to ask again or if they can send it via Text
I hope to see you at future events

Controllers, Please note there will be a briefing conducted by Senior Controllers approx 15 minutes prior to the event start 2300z.

Flight Planning
In Australia, flight plans are filed in the ICAO method, with the SID/STAR not included with the initial filing. This will be provided by ATC on contact with clearance delivery (for departure) and with Centre, usually just prior to initial descent clearance.
In Sydney each different runway has it's own set of SID's, which can be hard to predict ahead of time. Due to this, the outbound route should start with "TESAT". TESAT is an RNAV waypoint located on the airfield, replacing the old VOR "SY" which has since been decommissioned in the real world as part of the Navigation Rationalization project which removed 179 ground-based navigation aids on the 26th of May 2016, meaning GNSS is now the primary means of navigation for all instrument flight rule aircraft and flight plans.
An IFR Aircraft flying from Sydney to Melbourne will file TESAT H65 RAZZI Q29 ML regardless of the runways in use. Indeed some aircraft may well be assigned the WOL9 departure from runway 34L, and others the MARUB5 departure from runway 34R given northerly prevailing winds. Both of these departures join the H65 airway at WOL (Wollongong), however the SID tracks are very different, with one starting with a Left turn off runway 34L, and the MARUB5 departure from runway 34R starting with a Right turn.
Knowledge about deleting waypoints and closing route discontinuities in your FMS will be useful. Cheats include knowing the 2nd waypoint along the initial airway. Additionally be aware that ATC is likely to ammend the text of your route when giving clearance in the same manner as the Electronic Flight Strip is used in the real world. Once you file it, it's theirs.
Flight Plan Route
To help with filing your flight plan, VATPAC provides the Flight Planning Tool at https://www.vatpac.org/pilots/pilot-tools/flight-planning/
Charts
Additionally the real world Air Services Australia website provides charts for all airports in Australia, free of charge, on their Aerodrome and Procedure Charts website
http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/current/dap/AeroProcChartsTOC.htm
YSSY Sydney airport ground chart, and the areas various airlines typically use.
Note: International on the west (left) side and Dometic on the east (right) side, including freight.
In most FSX sceneries (including default) the Domestic side gates start with the letter "D", and the international side has no alphabetic prefix.
YMML Melbourne airport ground chart, and the areas various airlines typically use.
YBBN Brisbane Airport, Ground chart with typical parking area's of airlines.
Information for Air Traffic Controllers
ATC Applications are now open for this event. You can apply Here.
The amount of positions published will depend strongly upon the amount of applications. As previous trends have shown, This event attracts close to if not more than 80-100 Pilots. As such, We would love to have a large amount of controller positions rostered. Due to the length of the event, We have split the roster into two, 2 hour 30 minute periods.
The positions which will be allocated first are below:
If we have a large number of applications, We will additionally roster the below positions:
ATC Applications for this event will close on Sunday 09/07/17 2100 AEST. The roster will be published thereafter (Currently expect to be published Monday evening).
Should you have any questions, Queries or suggestions, please contact the events department via myself c.strawbridge(at)vatpac.org
We look forward to seeing you at this not to be missed Event!

A lesson learned: If you want to find out about changes in Sydney look under Williamtown. Specially around the ATS Route in the vicinity of R559.
Thank you AsA! You know, it really would not have broken either your backs or your budget to have issued another SUP with "SYDNEY" writ bold thereupon!
My thoughts exactly! ;D

Hi Andrew,
You raise an interesting point as there were changes to other places however, There were none published by ASA for Sydney. I am looking in my navdata and it is indicating DEENA7 etc. Looks like on this occasion the Navigraph Data is incorrect.
