  1. Hey all,

Just finished a paint of the Qantas New Livery A330-200 (Reg VH-EBP) for the Wilco/Feelthere Airbus Series 2. It's 4096x4096 in resolution and uses DDS textures, so it gives the A330 exterior model a much needed enhancement.

Got it ready tonight for the cruise tomorrow in case anyone wanted to use it. Happy to do other regos on request.

    Enjoy!

  2. Finding parking bays at Sydney is quite easy. SYD airport's website has the gates listed for JST, VOZ and other T2 airlines, except Qantas. All international gates are also shown. To find QFA gates, use FlightAware (at the moment due to a bug in flightaware change "QFA" to "QLK" to get the gate), and it should show the scheduled gates.

I believe VOZ have it on their flight info page.

  3. I'm pleased to announce that vataware has launched again under the same domain and we are currently importing that 30gb of data.

The vataware you've always loved is back with a fresh new design and look forward to some nice new features coming soon. Still a few bugs and dead links but our first priority is getting that old data back in.

I'm also doing a bulk import of of smaller Australian airports into the database which weren't previously there. Please let me know if you have any requests and I'll be happy to add it.

Also on the to do list is to fix up YBSU and YCFS which were previously issues when looking for stats on that airport or searching for routes. This is because of the ICAO change.

I'm also looking at the possibility of getting the 3 letter callsign to show the operator as "Private (AU)" instead of "Unknown" when flying between Aussie airports. This only used to work when you included the VH-.

    Enjoy!

  4. Michael,

This is such a broad question. One factor is the pilot's skill (someone flying the default 737 won't have any where near as skill as someone flying the PMDG NGX).

Just because you can fly the aircraft in FSX does not mean you'll have much luck in the real plane. You've got to lean over and press buttons, push levers, and it could become overwhelming compared to the sim. You've also got the actual physics and geforces working on you, so manoeuvres you may do in the sim may not be as easy as it seems. Many factors combine to make this not a one word answer.

    Hayden.

  5. Hi all,

Several new Jetstar Virtual pilots have come to me complaining that they were first mislead to the wrong website.

It turns out that Qantas Virtual (qantasvirtual.com) now owns jetstarvirtual.com, which is very similar to our domain (jetstarvirtual.net).

We have commenced domain name dispute proceedings with ICANN and we will advise of the final outcome.

Due to the ongoing proceedings, we are unable to comment further.

Thanks for your patience and we are sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused.

Hayden McClure - Jetstar Virtual CEO.

  7. I have been using this since 2011 and it works very well. Only issue is the infamous 'Download Error' that keeps popping up. A few things have changed with the various OS upgrades, such as X11 which it used to display the window became no longer bundled with the OS. This changed to xQuartz, which was a separate download.

Again this is a very good guide and saves me having to go into Boot Camp

  8. You can still spot the flight plan (and any) from FlightAware's IFR Route Analyser: http://flightaware.com/analysis/route.rvt

Also, for people viewing the flight plans from FlightAware, some key features are removed:

    FlightAware Raw Route:

    DCT CWS H169 CLARK W519 HB DCT 45S148E 50S150E 55S152E M085F310 60S155E 65S160E 70S167E 7130S17000E 7230S17000E DCT BOENZ M085F330 DCT BYRRD M084F320 DCT 7752S16707E M085F350 DCT BYRRD M085F360 DCT BOENZ DCT 7230S17000E 7130S17000E 70S167E 65S160E 60S155E 55S152E M085F380 50S150E 45S148E DCT HB W295 LT H215 WAREN W687 ML

    Actual Filed Route:

    M083F290 DCT CWS H169 CLARK W519 HB DCT 45S148E 50S150E 55S152E/M085F310 60S155E 65S160E 70S167E 7130S17000E 7230S17000E DCT BOENZ/M085F330 DCT BYRRD/M084F320 DCT 7752S16707E/M085F350 DCT BYRRD/M085F360 DCT BOENZ DCT 7230S17000E 7130S17000E 70S167E 65S160E 60S155E 55S152E/M085F380 50S150E 45S148E DCT HB W295 LT H215 WAREN W687 ML DCT

    Key missing features on FlightAware:

    • Starting Speed/Level change not present
    • No slashes separating step climbs/descents
    • DCT missing off the end

Also, QFA files routes with the airport navaid omitted, instead going straight to the first point

eg: DCT SY H65 RAZZI Q29 ML DCT is DCT WOL H65 RAZZI Q29 ML DCT

DCT ML H129 DOSEL Y59 SY DCT is DCT DOSEL Y59 SY DCT

As far as I know QFA and UAL are the only ones that do it in Aus.

Hope this helps someone that is using FlightAware routes/flight planning for QFA or UAL!

  9. The Dreamliner will enter international service in mid December flying to Bali initially. As more are delivered then they will extend to the rest of the international network. They start flying to the Gold Coast & Cairns on the 13th of November.

VH-VKA is based at Melbourne as with the future 788s.

    Hayden.

  10. From my point of view I believed there was a bit of confusion about this Iron Mic Week. I found that if we were attempting to win an Iron Mic at Melbourne, then why were all the events held at Moorabbin, where it would be more enticing for one to log on to the tower there due to the traffic?

Put it this way, if there was 2 planes inbound to Melbourne and Melbourne Tower was on, and 10 GA aircraft into Moorabbin due to the event, wouldn't it seem more logical to switch?

To me it seems that the focus was not clear on the right airport, which is where Brisbane got the numbers. The entire week was based off Brisbane, not two airports. Due to Archerfield being in close very proximity to Brisbane, aircraft frequently spoke to Tower and Approach. From my findings if you do a VFR flight from an airport such as Lilydale at 3000 in the 4500 step, you completely miss ML_APP and give them no traffic.

The good thing about Brisbane was that it's not on the typical milk run route and the mass amount of GA airports to fly into meant it was great to enjoy the ATC somewhere 'different' to usual. There was one airport in the spotlight and even the VFR events were into Brisbane from airports outside the TMA. Due to Brisbane not being frequently staffed, I found I was flying out of there often in that week because there isn't usually any ATC.

If this is to be repeated I think the events would need to be focused on Melbourne where there could be large amounts of traffic which encourages controllers to log on in that area. I also think that there should be more events to cater for the Jets too, however I did enjoy a GA themed week!

    Just my two cents.

  11. I agree with Stephen. I would recommend choosing VATPAC affiliated virtual airlines (especially the affiliated QANTAS virtual that has been active and proven for many years) over ones that aren't. They integrate with online events and have a greater online presence than the ones that aren't affiliated.

    Hope this helps mate.

    Hayden.
