  1. Just an update on traffic at the moment since Dolomynum/Servinfo/VATSPY data is inactive.

About 5 or 6 aircraft at ML, 4 or so at SY and a few airborne.

    ATC online:

    ML-SNO_CTR

    SY_APP

    ML_TWR

So at this stage, theres plenty of other aeroplanes to look out the window at and gate to gate ATC.

  2. Hi Gents,

With the organisation of some people behind the scenes (namely Zach B-F and Mr. Manuka :teeth:), controllers were brought together behind the scenes to light up Australia by manning all the Enroute positions available. Thanks to all the controllers that connected, we were successful in doing this and the picture below shows what i mean.

Well done to everyone and lets hope we see more of this kind of ATC coverage in the future.

  3. Can someone please verify what CTR position we're supposed to be on. BN-DOS is the CTR positions that is primarily adjoined with BN (and Zach advertised to control this) but BN-KPL seems to be building up hours. What position am i supposed to be on? I'm currently controlling DOS and that sorta makes sense since Milk Run Monday is to fly through DOS's airspace but if we're aiming to increase KPL's activity, then i can change positions.

Not very clear on what CTR positions is the 'active' one.

    Thanks

    Arjun

  4. I use Dolomynum as well and love it.

Any software works and software doesn't become redundant as quickly on VATSIM. So they're all viable options.

If not you can use something like Vattastic to view the stuff online (few others out there but can't find their links just yet).

  5. haha Matt. You were on 28 and the 737 was on 21 or else what Ross says will happen.

Trent, yeah sorry about that. I had some other plans as everything unfolded differently to expected and didn't get around to resequencing you. Noone crashed at the end (thanks to some PIC skills :D)

Ross, i do see what you mean by Left downwind instead or Right and i ended up figuring this out half way through the event. It worked a little better as peoples windscreens weren't filled with other aeorplanes :wall:

  6. Perhaps your'e slightly tugging on the headset thats causing a loose connection with the USB jack? I had some problems like this in the past where it randomly used to stop working and pulling the USB out and putting it back in seemed to make it work.

Probably not the best/most scientific fix but see if that makes it work when it disconnects.

  7. It certainly was a great event and i was very happy to have gotten AD_APP. I jumped on close to the event time and thought someone else would've gotten it before me but it worked out well. A nice influx of traffic and i had something to do for most of the time i was online.

Well done to Tracy for thinking outside the Cube and coming up with something interesting

Thanks to all that flew as it certainly was very fun!!

  8. Got some really nice traffic for this especially when all the adjacent CTR and APP controllers disconnected (after all the aircraft were airborne). Had a fair bit of fun controlling the streams into SY and ML. Thanks everyone for flying.

  9. Hi I have recently install CPDLC from hoppie ,but I still didnt have a chance to use it in a controlled airspace.

I have flown form OMDB to YSSY B 747 when I have reached controlled are by YSNO and it was avalable log in CPDLC to YSNO which I did ,but nothing happened.

    1. how do I know when to use CPDLC if ATC avalable?

ATC will generally put that they use CPDLC and provide a code or PDC available via ACARS on their controller info. A good way to verify this is the list of connected clients. This can be viewed on the hoppies website in the following link: http://www.hoppie.nl/acars/system/log.html

    2. How do I know that ATC will meke a contact over CPDLC?

If ATC use CPDLC (see Q1), then they will use that or voice to communicate with you. The only way you'll know that they're contacting you is by looking at the program. The >CDU symbol normally turns from black to white when you have a message and there is a note saying new message in the FMC type thing

    3. How do I found ATC avalaible on CPDL ( vatspy YSNO CPDLC avalable ,but fsinn ATC window did not mention CPDLC) ?

Sometimes, i've noticed that the FSINN window doesn't refresh the controller info. Try refreshing the Controller a few times and it may show up on there

    4. can we have a ground or TWR using CPDLC for clearance?

Yes, some GND/TWR do use CPDLC for Clearance on VATSIM (for PDC only, not for taxi and take off and stuff like that)

5 . who makes firts contact when entering ATC are with CPDLC? any example how that would work flying from 122.8 to ATC cov. area?

Just like contacting ATC normally, pilot is to make first contact. This is by "establishing" a connection by putting in their code and requesting connection. I suggest using the link from Question 1 to see what people contact ATC using CPDLC. There is another link somewhere but i can't find it.

    6. If log on to do I get any confirmation from ATC via CPDLC ?

You should get a confirmation (a message) once ATC accept your request to connect to them

any totorial would be appriciated . Thanks Petr

Above answers are in green. You also said you wanted to test it. Keep an eye out for me next time i'm controlling and jump on and send me a message. I'll be happy to test CPDLC with you.

  10. Peter,

Don't do that. It'll take a little bit more effort but try FSINN. FSINN normally tends to work well (especially if you use the FAQ's to solve problems).

I would urge you not to give up on VATSIM because once you get on, you'll truly understand how fun it can be.

  11. Peter,

Light Aircraft are certainly OK for online Flying. VATPAC Conducts 2 events every week that focuses on light aircraft (under Visual Flight Rules). You can get more information by clicking HERE

You can see when these events are on from the calendar on the Front Page. The VFR events are on Fridays and Sundays.

You don't have to fly for an event, you're still welcome to fly anywhere anytime.

  12. Hi Peter,

Welcome to VATSIM and VATPAC. It certainly is recommended that people log on and listen to get a gist of all that happens online before sinking their feet into the deepend.

You can connect to VATSIM using Squawkbox or FSINN, they are 2 approved softwares to connect to VATSIM (free of course).

    Squawkbox:http://www.squawkbox.ca/

FSINN: http://faq.apollo3.com/ljames/fsinn/vatsim/faq/#FSInnDownloadFiles (then look at #12)

Squawkbox is much easier to use as a new member but FSINN has much more features. Perhaps starting off on Squwkbox if it works, then moving onto FSINN might work well.

I also suggest you read the VATSIM Pilot Resource Centre. http://www.vatsim.net/prc. It is a very good guide for beginners and will really help you.

Another very good guide to get you started is a VATPAC made initiative. It's initially made for a particular flight (i think Sydney - Melbourne) but it can be used as a guide for all circumstances and works really well. You can find this at http://www.vatpac.org/newbienight and i really recommend you read this for Australian related operations.

    Enjoy

    Arjun
