  1. 40/60......having said that I do not consider fun Vs realism to be mutually exclusive.  I do not consider one aspect i.e. fun to be higher at the expense of realism and vice versa.

  2. Hi Wygene, thanks for advertising this event which I took part in and thank you for your ATC and your helpful suggestions. Unfortunately I completely stuffed my ILS approach into BIRK and was too embarrassed to stay on-line despite the kind words and efforts of the ATC guy there who really tried hard to get me to continue. I will do better next time. Cheers  Dan

  3. I trust that when anyone records meetings at their workplace or wherever for public replay that all concerned are advised prior to recording. I do not include recording for own personal use but only if being made available to the public. And before we get too defensive I am not making any accusations as to what someone might be doing just making a general comment that really does not need or warrant a reply.

  4. One post says  "***Please note only VSOA qualified pilots are allowed to conduct specific flying operations during these events***" and then another says

"Come and join enjoy and get involved learn some military operations and have fun :)"  How can one do this? Does a person who is interested in learning some military operations and I presume is therefore not VSOA qualified just spawn at an unoccupied parking space? As I do not even know what VSOA means maybe a clarification will be self-explanatory :-\ :) Cheers  Dan

  5. Who do I contact regarding the above please? I have tried to send private message to Callum however for some reason I am unable to then view the sent pm and so I do not know if it was sent or not? Basically I am enquiring as to why the World Discovery Flight on 23rd August 2017 is not appearing in the home Upcoming Events list (it is in the calendar but not in the list). The last two events are 21st and 28th so I would have thought that an event on 23rd would appear in the middle of these two?? Cheers  Dan

  6. Thank you to all outgoing staff for your volunteer contributions to Vatpac which have made this hobby so enjoyable. Also thank you to all the incoming staff for also volunteering your personal time which I am sure will also further develop this hobby. I have purposely bolded the words volunteer as a reminder to all us members who benefit from the great work of others. Good luck to all.:)

  7. Again, thank you Bradley. I will appreciate it especially as if approved, I will be taking over World Discovery Flights on Wednesday nights. Thanks to Peter Smith who has done a great job for many years and deserves a break. See you all in the skies on Wednesday nights; Newbies are especially most welcome as these flights ( and also Friday and Sunday nights VFR flights) are slightly less technical than the "big iron" wings and therefore are a great introduction to Vatsim on-line flying. The only prerequisite is that we ask that all participants avail themselves of the flight information that is provided on the Calender prior to the flights (saves a lot of questions ands answers on the night:).

    Cheers  Dan

  8. Hi Rob, firstly let me thank you for joining our flights and I invite everyone to continue to join us; new "blood" is definitely most welcome. Whether it is VATSIM/VATPAC rules or not, all we ask is that anybody who joins our flights, please at least use text when joining circuits etc. Even if you do not have FSInn, my understanding is that by texting on Unicom 122.80 it does not matter whether we use Vpilot or FSInn etc we will still be able to see/read the text message.

UNICOM 122.8 is a worldwide frequency that pilots need to monitor when not receiving services from ATC. Seems strange that we have a rule to monitor, but no rule to transmit/text seems counterintuitive to me.

  9. Thanks Greg and thanks for the wallop procedure which I hope I never have to use. I thought that the final sentence in my original post "I know that there is not much we can do but just needed to vent my spleen a bit" was pretty clear that I was venting and so that aspect did not need to be clarified "as expected" ;) Anyway a happy New Year and a thankyou to you and all the Vatpac/Vatsim team for all your valuable contributions to this hobby; seriously much appreciated. Cheers Dan

  10. Hi everybody, I was just venting my spleen. I am not that concerned about ambiguous rules and clauses. I am also not referring to ATC. If there are no other pilots on line in the air space then although a desirable habit, no "CTAF" texting is necessary, just good pilotage which was soundly absent on the night in question. Anyway, Lord Howe Island did not have a dedicated ATC on the night in question. These "pilots" were doing T&G's without any attention or consideration for other pilots on the runway. I was "hit" on at least two occasions one whilst taking off and one whilst on final approach. I texted my position and intentions to no avail. If there is no Vatsim requirement to text one's position and intentions in busy airspace then there should be, otherwise this just becomes a silly game. People go to some trouble to formulate these flights (both VFR Operations and World Discovery flights). I myself took the trouble to install some Lord Howe Island scenery that I paid good money for with the expectation that the flight would resemble as close as possible to what happens in real life. I wonder what would happen if I joined one of the big iron flights and decided to start buzzing around in my F86 Sabre! I did not "wallop" anyone because I don't know how. I will investigate this "wallop" procedure and report next time.

  11. Appreciate the need for new people but tonight in the VFR Ops flight we had all the "flightsim Xmas presents" buzzing around Lord Island without making any texting or regard for other pilots. Of the eight "pilots" involved only three including yours truly were regulars and we all had to log out because of the poor manners being exhibited by these "pilots". I did my best to try and convince them to use text ( I am a voice man myself:):) but only one of them at least tried.  I know that there is not much we can do but just needed to vent my spleen a bit.

  12. I have previously installed FSInn and the Server Fix on numerous occasions quite successfully however on installing into a new FSX install on a new Windows 8.1 Laptop I have hit a brick wall, so to speak. The control panel etc installs without any errors however the server load fix although it changes the .ini file ok, I still cannot get onto the server. Can I just type the server address into the relevant bar? and do I need to include the coun try i.e. OCEANIA?

    Cheers Dan

  13. Appreciate the immense amount of work that must go into a new client so my comments are not a critism but as I have no trouble at all with FSInn and do not have to muck around too much in matching aircraft, unless vPilot does much more than FSInn (does it?????) I will probably stay with what works for me. I know some people for some reason have trouble with FSInn so appreciate the greater choice of client now available. Whatever makes it easier for multiplayer situations can only be a good thing.:)
