  1. Sorry you have wasted your time Greg but I am still not certain as to my problem. Callum has just advised that he can see me in Discord so I may have a login problem. I will talk to Callum about it. Thanks for your efforts.

  2. My Discord is working as I was able to join Swift server because when I went to Swift it gave me a URL. I do not yet have a URL for Vatpac.  I can't even talk to anyone because it appears that Vatpac Teamspeak Server has already been restricted!! I thought that we had a week from yesterday to adjust...

  3. If we have not got s special sub-section for Discord then I think we will need one.

1st step was I downloaded and installed Discord software (that step is not mentioned anywhere although I acknowledge that is is probably an obvious step) then I followed the short steps and now have a screen with a top lefthand icon that says VATPAC Discord. That page also says the my Discord account is linked and it shows my selected username and a number #XXXX. There are no further buttons to select except the update button. The page also shows all the current Discord Moderators. That's all folks nothing else to select and nowhere to go. Discord does not connect that I can see (no Discord page opening) although at top righthand of VATPAC Discord page it says Home and Log Out, so I presume I am logged in somewhere?? I then opened Discord software to see if anything shows connected toi VATPAC server...nothing. Used the server search function in Discord...again nothing.

    I need assistance here please.

    Cheers  dan

  4. To connect to the Discord, you need to do two things. You'll need to A) Join the Discord; B) Link your Discord account to VATPAC. This can all be completed at https://discord.vatpac.org

I cannot see in the steps where it says anything about downloading the software? Surely that would be Step A, followed by join discord Step B and then link Step C ?? Or maybe I am just a bit slow:P

  5. While Pacific Link may be dying in a grave Wewak Wednesday will rise to take the place of the best event during the week.   Is the Wewak event for IFR or VFR? Are pilots going to fly from whereever they want into Wewak (the same airport) every Wednesday night between 7.00pm and 7.30pm AEDT?  I spend quite some time researching interesting and challenging Wednesday night flights for VFR . To claim the "best event of the week" for an event that has not started yet is a bit if a stretch imho. I wish you all the best but "the best event of the week" position is already well established and supported over many years and with the advent of AFV is becoming even more popular as are Friday and Sunday night VFR events.:D

  6. Nice update Nick. There will no doubt be pilots who for their own very valid reasons will be skeptical and want to remain with their current simulator and that is quite understandable. But one has to agree that good or bad FS2020 will be an absolute game changer in so many ways. I just hope that our 3rd world internet (in Australia) will be up to the job to get the maximum out of the game.

  7. Q: Will there be voice Unicom/CTAF?

A: Absolutely! Any frequency you tune, you'll be able to hear pilots on that same frequency within a 15nm radius of your aircraft. This means you can use Unicom and Voice CTAF! We're going to be doing some work on CTAF and won't have detailed information/list of CTAF frequencies available for the AFV release so we'd recommend, if you choose to use voice CTAF to have Unicom (122.8) tuned in your COM2.

So if I understand correctly, after 14th October for any CTAF frequencies not available we can now use 122.80 to make voice CTAF type calls?

  8. The old FSInn allowed for "official" comms on official frequencies and private chat on another button (not a frequency); those days are long gone however we do not and should not have private conversations on any frequency; that is what Teamspeak and/or Discord is for. Has worked well for many years on VFR and World Discovery flights. Further I would comment that making an announcement about intentions i.e. CTAF calls is not private talk.  The FAQ's on the subject now state categorically that CTAF will be operational within 15nm.

  9. This all getting a bit over my head. The current pilot clients all already allow for voice comms to and from ATC. The new AFV will do the same but bring in more realistic distances and sounds i.e. the first three features mentioned in the topic post.   All I want is to be able to voice announce intentions on frequency at uncontrolled airfields (CTAF) and at controlled airports that are  not currently manned by ATC.  I can do this already in Swift albeit not as easy as in FSInn.

Apart from making sounds and effective distances more realistic what else does AFV offer? i.e. the fourth new feature Customisable technology mentioned in topic post is a tad vague. When will use of CTAF become available like in FSInn?  what does the new client do about model matching?

  10. Just a heads up. Starting October 2nd 2019 we will be commencing a series of 4-5 flights in Lesotho, Africa. For those who do not know, Lesotho is an independant country landlocked within South Africa.

Lesotho is a mostly mountainous country similar to Papua New Guinea however without the vegetation and has many very challenging airfields. For this reasons flight times appear relatively short however time will be taken to locate and land.

The flight is based upon scenery created for X-Plane 11.30 by Alex-C downloadable here Lesotho_Africa 1.1.  Please note there are two files listed, you only need the file 1.1.  Small download only 245KB and is a must have for the flight  as most of the airfileds are NOT in X-Plane (nor other simulators.). It is presumed that pilots know how to install Custom Scenery. If not, then there are numerous tutorials available via your search engine.

It is also most advantagous but not neccessary to create Ortho4xp tiles for the scenery ( you would need about 7 tiles) due to the improved mesh that is also created within the Ortho4xp program.  Mountains are quite respectable in default in any case.

Like PNG pilots will need a suitable STOL aircraft to suit.

Further details will be published in the Calender shortly however have given heads up so pilots have plenty of time to do their downloads etc and familiarise themselves with a suitable aircraft i.e. Twotter or Pilatus Porter.

    Cheers  Dan

PS: After installing scenery do not forget to update the relevant scenery bases in whichever other programs you might use. i.e. FSTramp,  PlanG,  Little Nav Map etc.

  11. Instructions advise that If you are planning to fly via airways (Mainly IFR,) VATPAC recommends the following routes to assist in Traffic Flow - Charts for all 3 aerodromes can be found here.

Unfortunately as I am not a controller I cannot answer all the questions and therefore cannot get to the charts. I know one can get the charts elsewhere but if a statement says they are available here (for flyers/pilots) then they should be.

  12. Some these clearances are so long that it would appear Comms are harder to learn than flying:D

The people who are uploading LiveATC must have special/brand radios that tune into airport frequencies; what sort of radio will do this?

  13. Welcome Bryan. Come and join us on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights when we do mainly VFR flying in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Sometimes we have ATC sometimes we do not . Through Teamspeak in the Vatpac Daily Focus room all our members are more than willing to assist on-line during actual events. Check out the Calendar. Cheers Dan

  14. Not having any experience at ATC, I would comment that it is would be much easier to readback quickly when there are two pilots on board as in RW. One concentrates on onboard stuff whilst the other can quickly jot down the instructions for a prompt readback. Bit harder to do promptly when instructions from ATC can be quite muffled ( perhaps Vatsim should should dictate a minimum  standard headset?) and you are a sole pilot in your study.:D

  15. Just a short post to express my appreciation to Vatpac (Vatsim) executive and volunteers for all the hard work they have done and continue to do to make this hobby so enjoyable. Needs to be said more often IMHO.  Thankyou.

  16. For those interested I attach links to two Utube videos that I found most helpful as the instructions provided by the Swift team are most confusing  (to me anyway).

Watch this first as it covers installation but not what to do after installation.

This provides more info after installation      (This one gets a bit long winded at the start. I just fast forwarded it until I could see some screenies; it's your choice:D)

I hope these provide some assistance.  Cheers  Dan

  17. I have successfully assigned a Yoke button to this function. However when testing the Loop thingy (scientific term) Swift records and plays back without having to press the button. Somehow the transmission is being voice activated rather than button activated. Any ideas please??

PS: Is there a forum or contact point for the Swift developers?

  18. Hi Richard, instructions are very clear for FSX and P3D but not for XP. i.e. The instructions refer to the "Copy Models" section however I have no existing Swift installation from where to copy said models. I actually get an error at this stage "Error No other versions selected"?? From then on all the instructions relate only to FSX and P3D??

It is likely that I am missing something but don't know what?

Is it possible, in due course when time allows of course, to formulate a set of instructions that relate solely to XP?

    Cheers  Dan
