Just advising that WDF flights initially scheduled for 1st and 8th August have been put back a week respectively and are now scheduled for 8th and 15th

Then why do we have a browse heading "Downloads"?
-
My comment is not directly related to ATC but still falls under the topic heading. At uncontrolled fields both large and small, the incidence of pilots not texting intentions is annoying. Now if I understand the rules correctly (?) pilots are required to only monitor UNICOM. If so, what's the point where pilots are departing and/or landing at the same time and only one (me) is texting intentions?
-
What's happened to the downloads section please?

Welcome Terry. Google Drive is also used for Wednesday, World Discovery Flights. The flight details shows a link like VFR Flight page.

Just advising that there will be no scheduled WDF on Anzac Day, instead all pilots are directed to the Vatpac/VatNZ joint flight https://forums.vatpac.org/calendar/event/6-anzac-day-crossing/
Cheers Dan

Also have just been advised that ICAO for airfield of departure typed into the flight details document should read ENSD not ENSO. The PLan G plans are however correct.

For some reason I am unable to get into the edit page for the event so I need to advise that in addition to Orbx Norway being recommended it is also recommended that Orbx freeware EU airports be installed.

This is very exciting. I do not wish to preempt or upset any procedures that Vatsim head office may take going forward but my initial understanding is that this should work globally as the process does not rely on the current Australia voice file that is required for FSX/FSInn. Looking forward to reading about the experiences of all the guinea pigs

To all the IT people, well done with the new forum page. An interim solution to the Preview function issue is do not press the send button until one has read and re-read what has been typed.
This has always been my problem too, even with a preview function I still sometimes engage my keyboard before putting my brain into gear!!!!

Thanks for the hard work Richard. The only suggestion I would make concerns choosing a Server (point No 4, Pg 2). May I suggest that instead of choosing a drop down server until one finds one that is current which is a tad frustrating, instead just state that one should enter the numeric value of the server that they currently use. i.e. instead of Oceania (which is not there) enter 180.200.247.40 (typed into the box). Thanks again for your work mate. Cheers Dan
-
Success!!!The dropdown server addresses are indeed out of date. I entered the server for Oceania as suggested by Mr Quigley and all now works in readiness for P3D. Thank you Richard and all who provided their valuable suggestions. Cheers Dan.

Again, thank you gentlemen. I will enter the Australian server as suggested by Mr Quigley and let you know how i get on. Cheers. Dan

I think that it might be a Port issue. The AVC manual says that AVC should defailt to Port 3782, however when I run a netstat command it shows that both Vpilot and AVC are trying to use Port 3290. Any ideas here? Cheers Dan

Thank you, gentlemen. I will uninstall current AVC and install the one provided by Harrison and report back later.

Relatively old post but I am now considering installing P3Dv4 however still wish to be able to use CTAF's in Australia (just like FSInn). I am trying to install Vpilot and AVC for use in my existing FSX install to see how it/they operate. Vpilot installs ok and I am able to connect to my sim and also to the Vatsim network, however not so good with AVC. As per instructions I start FSX, then I start AVC and do NOT connect. When I do this however I get two messages "Set Value Failed" and "Key Create Failed". I press the close icon a number of times and then it takes me to the connect page. I have selected one of the drop down servers on the pilot info page i.e. "EUROPE-E1:Europe-E1.vatsim.net" (still have not pressed connect yet as per instructions). I then start vpilot and connect to the network. In AVC I have input "rw1.vatpac.org/unicom-au" in server room connection and then pressed connect. My aircraft radio is tuned to 122.80. There is a short pause while AVC is trying to connect and then I get the message "Vatsim authentication server has not responded". I have ensured that my callsign in both vpilot and AVC are the same as instructed. Any assistance will be appreciated. Thankyou. Dan

Just confirming that these Wednesday flights are not purely VFR. They do involve an element if IFR and as such if any ATC person would like to do a "quickie" i.e. they have time for a short control but not for hours on end, then they are most welcome to have a look at the departure and destination. i.e. tonight we had six experienced pilots landing close together at Keflavik, Iceland which would have provided a challenging 20 minutes or so. Anyway just a thought. Cheers Dan

That is clear and concise and most beneficial also to us VFR pilots. Thankyou; well done mate.

Hi Steve. You sound like a good candidate to join our VFR flights on Friday nights and Sunday nights and also our World Discovery flights on Wednesday nights. All start at 9.30am UTC or 8.30pm AEDT. Please refer the events calendar which has all the details that you would need. Don't be at all concerned about making the calls because on these nights quite a few pilots can only text due to constraints of whatever sim or pilot client they are using. With regard to using voice there are different set up procedures for FSX, FSInn, VPilot, P3D etc etc but all can be worked out. Rest assured that nobody and I mean nobody will have a go at you if you make a mistake...more likely you will join the team of pilots, including myself, who have to suffer the friendly ribbing of the few other pilots who actually know what they are doing ;D Also on these nights in particular, I have found the ATC guys most willing to assist so long as one is willing to listen and learn. As said you can also join the TeamSpeak room on these nights in the Daily Focus room and we will be more than happy to assist with regard to voice files etc. Looking forward to seeing you on line. Cheers Dan Co-ordinator World Discovery Flights.

Hi Jacob. First off let me welcome you to the forum. We have flights on Wednesday (see World Discovery Flights) and also on Friday and Sunday nights (See VFR Flights events section). These flights nearly always use GA aircraft. These flights are quite suitable for those pilots who need to polish up their skills or need to get used to on-line flying. The usual "suspects" fly FSX, X-Plane and P3D. Whilst most of us use voice it is of course not a requirement so long as you can at least text. Our X-Plane pilot is able to use voice as is our P3D pilot so when you come on one of our flights I am sure they will be able to assist on how to set that up. As far as ATC goes, the days of having difficulty with them Vs GA pilots is long gone. There is nothing better than having five or six GA aircraft approaching an ATC controlled airport; it really separates the ATC "boys" from the ATC "men" ;D

To assist pilots who are in states that do not observe daylight saving, the start time from this day for all WDF has been adjusted to 9.30am UTC or 8.30pm AEDT. If there is any disagreement with this decision I am happy to discuss via pm.

As most would be aware the above flights are conducted on Wednesdays at 10:00UTC to approx. 11:30UTC. You may also be aware that these flights are intended to be scenic and make best use of available scenery. Rather than "dictate" flights each Wednesday that might not be to everyone's taste, I invite for consideration the submission of flight plans that would interest you. Flights to be between 60 -90 mins including possible T&G's so distance and Kias will need to be considered and suggested aircraft. You do not have to provide planG files etc, just departure, waypoints (waypoints do not have to be airfields) and arrival. Or maybe you just want to suggest a region where you would like to fly and view the scenery. Either way I can fill in the details. Feel free to pm me your suggestions.

As being new to this type of event I found it very helpful in training for IFR flights following actual "heavy" routes. It enabled me to make good use of my Flight Management System. The various controllers were most accommodating and made it a very comfortable experience. Will definitely be doing this again. Cheers Dan
