  1. I especially appreciate these lines from Chapter Three which quite a few members, not just staff, have had to follow over the past 12 months or so.  There are people in our membership (who) take joy in “making life difficult” while online. This may include behaviour which doesn’t strictly breach the VATSIM Code of Conduct. It is important to ensure that you remain professional, and if in doubt, talk to another staff or board member about how to handle the issue. It's easy to get caught up in the moment but it is much easier to turn off and walk away. You will thank yourself the next day."

  2. I think that common sense needs to be applied to all rules and laws for a workable society. I  do not agree with your summation that the use of common sense allows people to do whatever they please i.e. our police often use their "discretion" or "common sense" when applying the rules and that does not allow us to drive in any manner that we wish to. However the police examine the circumstances and then apply common sense.  Because it is logistically impossible for rules to cover every possible circumstance it then becomes necessary for appropriate common sense to be applied.

  3. Thank you for your contribution Kirk. I am sure that if we all had the time to go thru every event we would find something that contravenes some part of a rule. . Re-enactment of real life disasters certainly could cause distress to some people however conducting fictional operations is a different story. Last year I conducted a Berlin Airlift flight using factual corridors etc; going by your thoughts that flight also contravened the rules because it was 1. a re-enactment of a military operation 2. could be viewed as war games (if one  wanted to interpret it that way). I have also been involved in ANZAC Day flights over Gallipoli and following your thoughts that also contravenes the rules.  I also conducted a "Mach Loop" flight in Wales which is a low level training flight, again could be considered a contravention of the rules. I suppose we could form a more formal VFR Ops Group and restrict entry to people who wish to "join" and then get permission from the executive for every "offending" flight;  Or maybe like all rules and laws some common sense could be applied.

  4. Hi David, I will leave the Teamspeak matter with Rusty (Russell) but bring your attention to a Wednesday night VFR flight in a few weeks time flying VFR around the Inner and outer Hebrides departing from Oban on the mainland. Check out the calender. Cheers Dan

  5. Just advising that there has been a change to the flight plan for above flight in case anyone has already setup for the flight. Some additional scenery suggested and slight change to route and destination. And if you have not read the event details it should be quite scenic with views of Matterhorn, Schilthorn, Jungfrau, Monch and Eiger mountains and high observatories plus some interesting airports. Cheers Dan

  6. Just wanted to thank the ATC guys at Darwin Friday and Sunday night who provided great service to the VFR pilots (some of whom me me me...) did not know the precise procedures and were given heaps of assistance and patience. Tried to post in ATC Feedback sub-section but is not available to me???. Anyway, thanks again guys.

  7. I am co-ordinator of Wednesday World Discovery Flights. I also usually join the Friday and Sunday VFR flights. These flights are intended for those pilots who wish to have a social flight, enjoying the scenery (hence VFR), sticking to flight rules as much as possible whilst learning at the same time also so that newbies do not feel uncomfortable. We have for some time been disrupted by pilots who whilst following "every rule in the book"  seem to be getting enjoyment out of disrupting our flights i.e. doing circuit training when numerous flights are arriving or departing, landing in opposite directions to the consensus reached by the other pilots, amongst other actions. Everyone is welcome and indeed encouraged to join our events but that means flying our events not using them for other purposes. The disruptive pilots are not breaking any Vatsim/Vatpac rules but they are adversely effecting our enjoyment. So I make a simple request and that is please do not use our flight events for any other purpose than that intended. I trust we can all show some maturity in this regard,

  8. Quite a good turnout for this event and following my contact with German Vatsim we were pleased to get ATC from Weisbaden and then Frankfurt Centre from controllers who knew we were flying an historic flight and so gave us departures and instructions using terminology of the era.  When asked about a squawkcode he advised that there was none because they did not have the required radar back then; how's that for reality. Look forward to seeing pilots this Wednesday (11th March) for "escape" from West Berlin.

  9. Following advices from Vatsim Germany (thanks to Cedric Mohler, RG Frankfurt Group) I advise an amendment to the flight on 4th March. The flight will now be departing Weisbaden AFB. Other details remain unaltered. Calendar details have been updated. Also note that members can fly any aircraft however in keeping with the nature of the flight it is suggested to google "Aircraft Berlin Airlift" for details of historic aircraft used. Not promised but we might have some ATC from our European friends who are aware of the historic nature of the flight and that we will be using a now closed airport in Berlin, Templehoff.

  10. Just a heads up, due to being Xmas day there is no formal World Discovery event scheduled on 25/12/19.

Merry Xmas, Happy New Year, Seasons Greetings and happy festivess for the rest of us,  to all.

Remember to drive safely, better to be late than not arrive at all.
