  1. Forgot to take some happy snaps during the peak movements, but here's one with the few arrivals targeting the 1030 arrival time.

Thanks to all those that flew - was a good test for FMS and GVCCS. I'm keen to hear what others thought of both of these new tools. :)

  2. Hi Richard

ELW is fully integrated into the sectorfiles. In ES if you log in as ML-ELW_CTR and select the correct frequency (123.750) you're airspace will highlight correctly. [You can test this offline using a simulator file]

There is an ops briefing for controllers that is yet to be sent out. Expect that soon.

  3. I've tried it. It seems good, but I couldn't get it to give me any upper level winds making it almost useless for tube flying.

I guess if you can't be bothered buying Activesky...

  4. I've been using the beta for a short while now, technically it is still closed beta but it has unofficially gone public since someone posted it on the VATSIM UK forums :teeth:. There are still some minor bugs the developer is working on.

It really is fantastic for coordination and easily surpasses other methods for voice coord like Teamspeak (and of course VATSIM p2p) in terms of quality of voice and ease of use, not to mention we can finally do proper Hot and Cold lines!

I've started putting together a few profile files for each Australian sector, expect them when it is officially released. :)

Clearly they're just trying to sneak a peek at what's happening on the east coast - where all the real action is. That or maybe they are compensating for something

  6. Not exactly sure how a post can go missing

Your post more than likely got chopped off when moderation of the thread was taking place. I believe you have received a PM or email from David.

.... but thats not the point of the topic I really suggest that the board looks into the briefing system so other issues can be resolved

As I'm sure we will if discussion continues.

I think one extra step which will improve ATC quality is not really a burden. It will most likely increase Pilot Satisfaction therefore increasing their likeliness to return to our airspace. So you have to ask is 2-3 extra minutes really that much to spare to improve the quality and subsequently the traffic in our region?

I quite like the idea of a formal handover and briefing prior to controlling. It plays an important role in real life and was some positives in the virtual environment as well.

But having said that, simply checking to see who is planning on controlling or flying should be a common courtesy and I think from an operational standpoint - doesn't need to be formalised as part of some procedure. And as Shannon has pointed out formalising such a thing is only adding further barriers to those that simply want to enjoy the network for what it is.

Sure occasionally people are going to miss out even though you "shotgunned" a position (be it via the booking system, signal fires, territorial markings, etc.); build a bridge and move on.

  7. Hi All

Last year at our Teamspeak "Town Hall" meeting there was discussion about voice ground-ground communication, particularly about the unreliability of the current peer-2-peer setup used by our ATC clients.

I mentioned that there was a new tool in the pipeline by a European developer that would hopefully satisfy our needs for efficient and effective coordination. Well, for the past couple of weeks I've been testing that tool in closed beta and I am very impressed with how it operates.

The tool is a standalone program that can be used with any ATC client and uses Skype to provide instant, phone-like quality coordination between controllers. Essentially it is an interface to Skype, meaning that you are required to have Skype running with an active account. For those using EuroScope, it can also link up via plugin and provide extra features (such as frequency configuration). This is what it looks like:

    GVCCS_beta.jpg

The program provides realistic hot and cold line coordination (instant line to the controller [ala. override] versus a call to the controller [intercom]).

Unfortunately at the moment it seems impossible to have this program initiate the current P2P types of coordination, so for controllers that aren't using it traditional methods will still need to be employed. But for controllers using this tool it will greatly help speed up and enhance coordination.

GVCCS is still in closed beta with some features still being added, but expect to see it public soon. :pilot:

  8. I've seen some people doing this for their Xbox's after they've received the "red ring of death" with the same results. Definitely worth a shot when traditional methods fail.

I had planned on flying in Saturday's Arvo Flight, until out of Sydney my motherboard started buzzing to indicate it was overheating... perfect opportunity to pull it apart and clean out the dust I've been too lazy to clean out earlier!
