  1. I think within 5nm, if you've been given an altitude restriction, then that would still apply ... The 5nm issue is only about tracking, I.e. Track direct to the aerodrome until 5nm then track to the runway

In practicality, a tower will give a certain position in the circuit to join when cleared for visual approach

MATS says "Do not assign a level restriction to aircraft cleared for a visual approach." so worry not ;)

  2. ...I haven't had the oppurtunity yet to write the moodle part on TFMS.

In a nutshell, outside of major events you want to use TFMS in "offline mode". Offline mode treats you as the flow controller, only your sequence is not uploaded to FMS.

To switch to Offline Mode left click the airport button up the top of the window.

From this menu you can also switch airport. Note only a few airports have maestro profiles configured. To the right of the airport button is the runway profile button. Left click to open the profile menu. From there you can select a predefined runway configuration and tweak the landing rates for each runway.

That is all you really need to know to get started. Aircraft are automatically added to the sequence if they are within an hour (I think, can't remember) from the destination. Runway will be assigned by maestro. Right clicking an aircraft on the ladder will allow you to interact through a menu. Left clicking an aircraft on the ladder will allow you to swap it's position with another aircraft.

  3. Hey Guys, I just bought the Captain Sim 727, This obviously does'nt have a GPS or FMC so I know its navigated using VOR's and NDB's, so

    1. How would a typical B727 fly the BN - SY route?

    2. What would be a normal FP to submit to ATC for BN - SY

    3. And are these planes radar vectored in and out of Terminal areas being that for example the LAV8 departure from BN, rwy 01, I have know way of knowing where the waypoints in the SID are because there not directed to or from any VOR's?

    4. Also when approaching the TOD when your flying a radial to or from that does not have a DME, how can you know your distance from in order to calculate the TOD?

Hope this makes sense guys. thanks

There is nothing stopping you from flying the usual preferred route. It does not feature any RNAV airways (the ones that start with L,M,N,P,Q,Y,T and Z are RNAV routes, the rest "conventional"):

DCT BN H62 CORKY H12 SY DCT

It is just more difficult to calculate your position when you have to do it manually!

You won't be able to fly any SID or STAR marked with (RNAV) in its title since it requires you to be equipped with an inertial or GPS RNAV system. If you get assigned one just let ATC know that you can't fly it.

You can calculate distance from one navaid by tuning a second navaid at a different location. Your bearing from the second navaid in relation to the first navaid (where the two lines intersect each other) will give you a position on a chart, from which you can then get distance.

  4. The installer doesn't modify any registry values, it simply puts the files where they need to go. The only thing that I think might cause an issue is the installation of the font.. but I'm not sure how.. anyway - manual installation the solution!

  5. Geoffrey,

John experienced this problem when we tested the installer initially, but when he left the installer alone (let it sit at wherever it hung) it eventually went through and installed correctly. I've not been able to reproduce the installer issue on Vista 32, W7 64 or W7 32.

In any case, I've uploaded a manual install ZIP here.

  6. Problem: "failed to load plugin" when trying to load TAAATSMod.dll.

    Explanation

The plugin requires files present in the EuroScope Program directory that can usually be found elsewhere. Usually there is no problem running from different locations, but it is causing one for a few.

    Solution

Move TAAATSMod.dll from My Documents\EuroScope to the EuroScope Program Files directory (eg. Program Files\Csernak Gergely\EuroScope), then try to load the DLL.

Problem: Upper level altitude filter is set to FL 295. Non-concerned aircraft above this level are filtered.

    Explanation

I inadvertently saved the upper level altitude filter at this lower level prior to building the release installer.

    Solution

Right click the righthand box under "Display Levels" in the top menu bar to reset to 999 if desired.

  7. If you did not previously have the correct TAAATSMod font installed then you will notice a difference. Post a screenshot so we can check, if you are concerned.

I'm still in the process of writing the CPDLC resource for the moodle course, but heres a quick rundown:

First, you need a logon code from Hoppies website.

Enter that code into the Set-Up Window under CPDLC Options, Logon Code. Ensure "Enable CPDLC" is checked.

Ensure "Manual ID" reads AUTO (right click to set to AUTO).

Now, if you log on as a Melbourne CTR or FSS position pilots that you are tracking will be able to connect to you by logging on to YMMM. Likewise for Brisbane CTR/FSS positions with YBBB. You must be tracking them or else you will not see the logon request.

By default Approach and Tower positions aren't catered for using this arrangement (they don't use CPDLC in real life), but if you wish you can specify a "Manual ID" in the Set-Up Window and pilots will be able to connect to you using this logon id (instead of YMMM or YBBB). The manual ID does not require you to be tracking them. Please note that you can receive Telex messages but not send them. Telex messages are what are used for issuing PDC in real life. I plan on adding a PDC window in the future, but for now CPDLC and ADS-C only.

When a pilot logs on you will see the request in the Current Message Window (it opens itself when theres a new message). You can then accept logon and start sharing messages using the CPDLC Editor Window.

  8. Hi All

As you may have noticed, TAAATSMod 2.1 is now available here.

TAAATSmod has been a long time project of mine and is the product of around 21,000 lines of code. It represents the real system to quite a high degree of accuracy and adds some rather useful tools to the client.

This release you'll notice a completely different top menu bar, which is more in line with the real system, completely revamped flight progress strips, display filters, Maestro, CPDLC and ADS-C, display options and settings. Colours have also been tweaked and are now the actual RGB values from the real system.

The TAAATSmod moodle course has been updated and can be found here. Please note that there are still a few pages that are incomplete, I will notify you when they are in place. The course is well worth going through to get your head around the software.

    Enjoy! :)

  9. I suggest the MilViz C310 (grab it from Flight 1). Very nicely done. Excellent graphics and actually handles and performs like a twin.

    c310.th.jpg

Note in that pic I've got my custom radio stack so I can use my reality-xp unit. You can choose between full 3D radios and a flat blank area where you can put your own 2D gauges.

I've gone off Carenado as of late, they just seem to be mass producing pretty models without much thought going into the flight dynamics, systems and gauges. But if you don't care much for how the aircraft behaves in flight they sure are pretty aircraft.

I would love a high quality aero commander, but sadly haven't come across one. The BN islander (also at flight 1) is similar and meant to be a great addon, but I haven't convinced myself I need it [yet].

PS. Does this also mean you're upgrading to EuroScope?

  10. Dan,

I suggest you stick with VRC for now. Once you step on up to TMA/ENR and are comfortable with controlling then I would recommend moving to EuroScope with TAAATSMod.

First time installation and getting your bearings with EuroScope is a bit of a hurdle to overcome, and probably not something you want to attempt well you're still learning to control. But there are plenty of tutorials and people willing to help you and the end result is well worth it :).
