Hi all
I have done a bit of a search but didn't turn up anything. For those flying with the GTN750 installed in GA aircraft, how does this gel with VATSIM. I find the GTN750 incredibly useful but its one major drawback is I can't update it to the latest AIRAC for SIDs and STARs. Flying offline using FSEconomy I've noticed that while it is generally the same there are some minor differences in procedures. Any thoughts or advice on how this should be handled?
Thanks

Thanks Daniel ... I only have Turbine Duke B60 at the moment so might have to wait until I diversify aircraft!

Hi all
Anyone out there flying on FSEconomy regularly? Thought it might be interesting if there was a VATPAC Group ... does it exist already?
-
Thanks Greg I re-ran the install on GTN and its now working so I must not have completed the initial install.
Chaseplane I seem to have lost the pop up menu on middle mouse button. Also for the life of me can't get the switch views setup via FSUIPC on my yoke switch.
Setting up on Realair Turbine Duke.

The one thing I find frustrating is how finicky every detail is to get things working right. As far as I can tell I have fully updated all my software but both Chaseplane and the GTN750 won't work properly. The GTN won't even power on. So much effort just to get to the point of even thinking about flying

I know how you feel Warwick. The inability to regularly land the 737 was what kept me away from the hobby for 12 months. I'm going back to GA until I nail it.
-
Thanks Rusty - excellent points, I have indeed been looking on FSE as you suggest. There's only two rentable turbine Dukes in Australia, one's currently in Monto QLD, the other in Groote Eylandt!
It has been a few days of updates and re-installs, but I am close to having it all set up again. Need a rubber mat (getting this afternoon) to stop the rudders sliding around then I think I am good to go with the Duke. I'll try and do some offline flying this week and if that all goes smoothly hopefully I will check out VFR Ops soon thereafter!
-
Hi Warwick - are you still flying? Fellow Canberran here!
-
Hi Russell - many thanks, actually the VFR Ops sounds like a great idea. Going to spend the next week or so reacquainting myself with the basics and then I will jump in!
Edit - thanks for the FSEconomy tips. Any other aircraft recommends for best use in Aus?
-
Thanks again. I'm sure I will pick it up again. Actually quite looking forward to zipping around in a smaller aircraft again.
-
Many thanks William. I'm going to stick with v4 for now until I get back up and running. Almost everything ... sim, planes, scenery, Active Sky, etc etc needs major updates!
I've also decided to go back to flying the old Turbine Duke to get the feeling of hand-flying back.
Another quick question - training seems a bit confusing at the moment. It seems like there are new pilot ratings coming in? I would like to go back and start from the beginning ... its a bit hard to tell what I should do at the moment.

Looks awesome, when is it due to arrive?

Hi everyone ... bizarrely and by sheer coincidence almost exactly a year since my last post!
Frustration set in a bit with my 737-800 learning as I simply could not get a hang of the landings. This led me to abandoning flying on VATSIM as I was horribly embarrassed to attempt landing online. Time between flights grew longer and I lost enthusiasm.
Fast forward twelve months and I am actually on LSL for all of 2020 - looking after my youngest in his first year of school. COVID has changed that quite a bit! Anyway I am keen to pickup the hobby (yet again) and hopefully make it stick this time.
Flight sim seems such a hard thing to get back into ... I hardly know where to start. I thought I might try something in between ... I don't want to go back to basic GA (although I probably should) ... but getting straight back to the 737-800 seems a recipe for frustration also.
I thought a compromise might be the Carenado Saab 340B? I kinda like regional flying on FSEconomy. Maybe this might be a good compromise?
Also I saw something about a new version of P3D ... do I have to upgrade or can I continue using v4?
Hope all is well in VATPAC.

I've only done two qualifying flights but only one is showing in the leaderboard so I am getting bleeding also. Will send email as suggested.

Hmmm I think so but maybe I just missed it. I was probably focussing on saying approximately the right thing to ATC

It was set to 4000. I got a MCP altitude achievable message on the FMC but I am not sure why as I followed the STAR precisely up to that point.
-
Well tried my first landing with ATC today - apologies to @Elliot Parker, I had to disconnect. Following Arbey3A arrival into YMML I am not sure what went wrong, I was at 9000 at waypoint Tunka as per the STAR but it just didnt descend after that although it was programmed into the MCP and FMC. By the time I switched to a large v/s to get down I was way too fast.
I'm struggling with approaches and landings in the NGX, I think I need more practice before going live again.

Well after many offline attempts I just did my first online flight in the 737-800, YBBN to YBCS. Quite an attractive flight following VOZ779 real world track from yesterday. I'm still awful at landings and I was really glad there was no traffic or controllers around - small steps - but I got from gate to gate in once piece. Onwards and upwards!

I am pretty well decided on the Acer XR382CQK 38" widescreen ... just need to pull the trigger.
So I went through with it and awesome monitor. Can see so much more! Problem is .... now panning won't work with ChasePlane. Sigh.

I had an LG 34 inch wide-screen - it was awesome. I'd take that over 3 screens any day.

Buy a VR headset instead.
I did think of this but I think I will wait on the next generation.

Just to follow up on this I ended up getting the Soundblaster X7 external sound card .... works brilliantly!

Hi Everyone
I currently am running a triple monitor setup but all three of the monitors are very old. I’m thinking of switching to a single ultra wide monitor. I’m running a 1070 card for graphics ... any recommends out there?
I read some articles that recommended : Best Ultrawide 1440p – LG 34UC80-B, but as far as I can tell it isn’t available in Australia.
Budget is around the 1k mark.
Appreciate any advice!

Great to see my old topic bumped
It's a bit disappointing CTAFs aren't used. If the pilot prefers to be more realsitic, can you broadcast on CTAF only?
I just watched musicalaviator's first GA around Australia leg and pretty sure he mentioned he was looking forward to when everyone had to use voice CTAF.
