  1. Calling pilots "Clowns" and "idiots" is not going to improve relationships.

They are plenty of mistakes made by ATC as well, but pilots are not posting degrading comments on public forums.

I feel and understand the frustration felt by ATC when people are not following instructions or ignoring other users and doing there own thing, as was a pilot last night when I arrived into YSSY, (great ATC from APP and TWR btw.) But a quick message to a SUP had the problem sorted in a few minutes. Calling these people names is only showing them they are getting the result they want, and leads to them returning to do more. As to the heavy breathing sometimes this is no more than someone with a stuck PTT key or using vox activation ( something I feel we could do without....).

At the end of the day, I hope no one feels they have no choice but to take time off because of the frustrations they are feeling, and if I can help in anyway to reduce stress levels let me know, I am always available for help (except when on a approach to land, or in the first 10 minutes of departure ), if need be I am willing to teach/instruct sid/star use for new pilots, just ask. Oh, btw I do not smoke.....

  2. Hi all,

I have sent all the new PSS updates to Merv Archer for posting on his site (http://www.austscene.com).

The updates cover the DAP 103 changes for the following airports, and include both jet and non-jet procedures.

    Adelaide

    Brisbane

    Darwin

    Melbourne

    Sydney

I have thrown each of these new and/or updated procedure into the FMS, and everything appears fine, but I have NOT flown the procedures. :o

Therefore the "old buyer beware" statement comes to mind. :(

If you should come across a mistake, please pm me here or email me and I will fix it.

    Enjoy.

  3. Thanks Jackson

I am sure most people here know of and have been to the PRC.

At the moment it is a basic guide for beginners/newbies to learn how to interact on the VATSIM network, by correctly connecting and trying to teach a few common ATC procedure calls/phrases. In the future ( no I do not know when....I deal with support issues, not the lesson designs or implementation of new stages) the PRC will expand the current lessons and take on a (non-compulsary) intermediate pilot training role.

That said, I believe personally that at the moment the best thing a new pilot could do after or whilst completing the PRC lessons, is join a active VA, and part take in the VA's organised group flights, any mentoring offered by fellow VA pilots or structured training course the VA may operate. I know the VA's in the VATPAC region focus heavily on helping new pilots. A VA I was involved in once apon a time, will operate ATC training flights several times a year, where I will open a seldom used airfield and provide ATC to the pilots, and explain what I am requesting, and why ATC is making the request if the pilot does not understand. I am positive that the other "local" VA's have other equally good programs in operation.

I know it can be frustrating when a new pilot "stumbles" into a busy ATC area durring events etc, but we must all remember that we all started out as a novice and try to accomodate as best we can. To new pilots thinking of joining their first major organised event, maybe departing from and landing at adjacent airports, for example YWLM to YSCB/YMAV, instead of YSSY - YMML, would be a way to start. You get a very good ATC coverage, without the high pressure of rapid instruction and trying to understand new terminology on approach, in a high density traffic situation.

Finally please remember that I am always available to answer questions or help in any other way possible. If there is no ATC active I can easily come on a pvt chat room and talk/help any time I am online.

    Regards,

  4. Hi All,

    Just a quick progress report.

YSSY, YBBN, YMML finished, tested and zipped ready to send to Merv.

Due to YMML procedures taking longer than expected I have not started YPAD, and with several new procedures and some track changes to others it will be about a week before I have YPAD ready to send.

All my updates will be available from Austscene (http://www.austscene.com)

  5. Hi Greg,

I was under the assumption that CAVOK was along the lines of no clouds below 3000 ft and vis greater than 10 miles, or something along those lines.

I may be (more than likely) wrong in this assusmption though.

  6. It has been wonderful to see VATPAC grow with so many new members since the release of SB3 and FSInn several weeks ago.

The determination and enthusiasm (sp?) shown by you all has been great to watch, and I have enjoyed (along with others) in giving helping hand.

Another "bit" of advice I would like to share is VATSIM's Pilot Resource Centre (PRC). The PRC can be found at http://vatsim.net/prc .

I urge everyone to take the time to register, read the lessons which can be great source of information on the basics of enjoying online flight with VATSIM/VATPAC, and then take the quizz, which will help reinforce the lessons.

Anyway, once again to all our new members, welcome, I hope you have great time here at VATPAC.

  8. The reason we never saw the gear raised.... The dog on the flight deck that bites any pilot trying to manually control the aircraft was over zealous in its job...

**** runs for flame proof suit ****

  9. Ok,

With the execption of Roland  (who is a rule unto himself :P ) no one has come forth with a date for the BBQ.

I would like to nominate May 2 the Labor Day public holiday as our get together.

Suggested time: 11:30 am for a BBQ lunch.

    Steve
