  1. Hi All,

I just posted the week 42 Iron Mic results on the VATSIM forums. SY_TWR came in 7th and ML-BIK was just outside the top 10, coming in 11th.

Great results for both positions, so to all who have "manned" the scopes recently, thank you, and I look forward to flying in your sector soon.

    regards,

    Steven

  2. Under the new VA affiliation policy, all new VA's must obtain permission prior to being allowed to post on the forums.

Once the permissions have been given the VA can then make one general post in the VA forum, advising of their existence, recruitment etc and then the thread is locked. Once the VA has successfully affiliated with the region then the VA liaison officer can post on the VATPAC forums regarding VA events etc.

This VA message is allowed to stay because it was posted prior to the new policy being posted, but the replies have been deleted as they do not further the cause of the post, and under the new policy are not relevant to this discussion.

  3. Hi All,

Those of you who subscribe to the newsletter may have accidently received more than one news flash regarding tonight's event. It appears my anti virus software decided to get involved and disrupted the process.

I have since reset and resent the flyer, and although the program is supposed to identify previous recipients you may receive a second copy. I apologise if this happens to you.

  4. Please note, several VA's have not yet made contact with me to verify their details.

Those VAs wishing to remain affiliated MUST complete this step otherwise it will be assumed that the VA has closed or is no longer wishing to be affiliated with VATPAC.

Please note that it is a requirement that all affiliate VA's maintain valid email addresses.

  5. Managers of affiliated Virtual Airlines who have not responded to my previous emails, please private message me with your current VA email address.

There are changes being made to the VA affiliation policy, and we wish for all affiliated VA's to view and comment before release.

Please remember it is a condition of VATSIM and VATPAC affiliation that VA's maintain a valid email address at all times.

To those that have replied to my email thank you, I shall be in contact shortly.

  6. Hi All,

I wish to announce the first of what I hope will be a series of VA/VATPAC joint events.

On January 26th Compass Virtual Airlines is hosting a joint event with a fly into Canberra, with a special VA fly past scheduled for the afternoon.

    From the Compass website:

Compass will be looking to operate as many flights in and out of Canberra as possible during the 6 hour period and we invite all of our colleagues within VATOCE to join us and make this a truly memorable fly in with as much traffic in and around the Canberra TMA as possible. We'd like to see everything thrown at the national capital, RPT operations, military operations and GA VFR flights as well.

To make the day an even greater challenge for the controllers in collaboration with VATPAC Events we will make things extra difficult by closing off portions of Canberra airspace near the airport to allow a fly past by all VATPAC affiliated VAs. So come and join us in Canberra on the 26th and have a Ruddy good time!

Please head over to the Compass website for further details, and links. Anyone wishing to book an ATC slot can find the email link at the website as well.

All VA's have been sent an invitation, please let me know if your VA did not receive one.

    regards,

  7. World Flight Australia 2007 ? 5th November to 11th November

Worldflight 2007 has been and gone, and as in past years was a wonderful success. It truly is a testament to the team of people who work hard behind the scenes to bring this event to life every year. Not only here, but all around the world from Glasgow to Canada and all between.

As Rob Hooley stated on the forums...? Participation from home operators was definitely up this year, I think a dozen was the fewest on any one leg I saw. Certainly made things interesting from the ATC side - some of the places we visited don't see a dozen movements in a whole year! A sincere thanks to those of you who set aside time to support World Flight and the RFDS.?

    VATPAC events 2008

In 2008 the VATPAC events will focus on a different State or Territory each month, and during the month all events will be based in and around the State/Territory under the spotlight. You can expect to visit places and airports not normally seen in the VATPAC events calendar. Prepare to be challenged, amused and exhilarated as we step into the New Year. In the coming days I will be populating the events calendar for the entire year, so you can see what is planned and what dates we will run these events.

Also starting from January each VA will be invited to join in partnership with VATPAC and host a different ?Major? event. ( I will be contacting each VA privately in the coming weeks to secure an event and date for each one.) To start the ball rolling Compass Virtual Airlines in partnership with the VATPAC events department will be hosting a fly in to Canberra on January 26th. The name of this event... Celebrate in Canberra with Compass! 'ave a Ruddy good time!

That is all for this month, have a safe and happy holiday period, and I will see you all in the skies in the New Year!

Happy Holidays from the entire events team!!

  8. I would like to echo Terry's comments and thank all members who took part either flying or controlling, you were the topic of many conversations and you all impressed the constant stream of onlookers that passed by the stand.

To mark this occasion and to display our wares VATPAC has organised a fly in event based around the Brisbane and Gold Coast regions.

World Flight Australia 2007 ? 5th November to 11th November

Worldflight Australia is a ?virtual? round the world flight to raise money for the Australian Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Our very own 'World Flight Australia' was started in 2001 and over the past six years World Flight Australia teams have raised over $80,000 for the RFDS.

The popularity of conducting a World Flight for charity is growing, with teams in Canada, Ireland, Scotland, England and the USA joining the flight over the years. Each team selects their own needy charity, raising funds through donations and corporate sponsorship.

World Flight Australia extends an open invitation to all VATPAC members to join them on the trip of a lifetime, or for just one leg. In recognition of the effort that the members of World Flight Australia put into the charity event, all regular VATPAC events will be suspended during the week of World Flight, and all members are encouraged to join in. You can find the website here

  12. Hi All,

It is with great pleasure that I am able to announce that through the combined efforts of Jake Saw, Andrew Harle, Ben Mathieson, and Nick Togias that VATPAC is able to host the RealOps BrisVegas 2007 event, to run in-conjunction with the Gold Coast Flight Sim Expo on the 27-28th October 2007.

The website can be found here

Full details and booking systems can be found on the website.

Please note that whilst you can book an ATC slot, preference will be given to those manning the VATPAC display at the Expo.

  13. Guys,

Before we get in to heated debates about Special Ops and all the regulations that go with it, the VA has to start somewhere.

The management of the VA have made contact and have been advised of the steps they need to take, but there is no reason to exclude them from flying online and recruiting pilots during this process.

We should always encourage new VA's (and members in general) to fly online, the benefit to the community as a whole is immense.

    Thanks,

  14. Just to remind about the Compass birthday celebrations, a snippet from the Compass web pages...

"Compass turns six years old on the 10th of September, 2007. The day marks six years since Compass started a new direction in virtual aviation in Australia and the Pacific. We invite the entire virtual aviation community to join us to help celebrate this milestone in our history with "Bula!", a major fly-in based on Nadi in Fiji, one of the many destinations on the Compass network and the crossroads of the Pacific, which is one of the major areas of our virtual operations.

Compass is also pleased that a number of other members of the virtual aviation community will be joining us for the event. In particular we are thrilled that our joint hosts Air Pacific Virtual will be continuing their virtual operations and that we will continue to fly alongside the "Island in the sky" "

Route suggestions and times are available on the Compass website.

  15. For those not aware the real life atis around 11pm at Brisbane every night shows (unless weather is bad) the following runway situation....

    QUIET3 arrivals on Runway 19

All other arrivals on runway 19

    all departures on runway 01

There is a particular 727 driver that arrives into YBBN 3 or 4 times a week around 1 am that needs to be told about this, as he comes overhead my house on his approach to Rwy 01. Along with the odd B737 around midnight.

  19. Hi Guys,

We're currently after one or two individuals to help coordinate the popular Panic Station events and join the events team.

The individual(s) will be responsible for evaluating and altering airspace arrangements, preparing briefing material and liaising with other staff as each panic station is put together.

We'd prefer someone with a Senior Student rating or higher but it would really suit someone who is completing (or already holds) a Controller rating.

If your interested and would like to be considered, drop me an email.
