Circumnavigation of Australia - Stage 18 Simulation Date/Time: Current date set to daylight. Weather: Real World / Fair weather if real world is unsuitable for VFR operations. Please note Rule B13 in the VATSIM Code of Conduct regarding weather. Distance: 142 nm Est Flight Time: Approx 75 min. Departure times may be staggered to avoid congestion. Aircraft: Cessna 172 or similar aircraft capable of 120 kias. Altitude: Not above 8500 ft. Suggested 3000 ft. Flight plan File as: YSWL YGMP YVVA YNNR YDER YCRE YOLA GPS flight plan is available for FSX/P3D .pln, MFS2020 .pln, X-Plane .fms and Little Navmap. Navigation: Pilots are encouraged to navigate visually. For those less familiar the GPS flight plan is the recommended method of navigation. Communications Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. During an event, Pilots are requested to broadcast intentions on the published CTAF. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM CoC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor UNICOM on 122.800. Pilots should ensure that at least one of their radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive UNICOM transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF. Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment. Scenery Due to the plethora of simulation platforms now being used, scenery is left to the discretion of each pilot. Updated X-Plane scenery is available here (this includes Dunkeld, Derrinallum and Cressey which are not in default X-Plane). Event Details This week VFR Operations flies between Moorabbin and Stawell. From Stawell we return to Moorabbin via Maryborough and Lilydale passing close to Melboune International's northern approach complying with strict altitude limitations. Simulation Date/Time : Current date set to daylight. Weather : Real World / Fair weather if real world is unsuitable for VFR operations. Distance : 164 nm Est Flight Time : approx 80 mins Aircraft : Single or twin engine aircraft such as Beechcraft Baron, Mooney Bravo or similar capable of 155 to 185 kias. Communications : Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. VATSIM pilots connecting to the network using FSCOPILOT/FSINN can install an additional file that provides the ability to tune the CTAF frequency and make voice announcements to other pilots on frequency. These files can be obtained via this link. For pilots connecting to VATSIM using VPilot, there is a work around that enables these pilots to also take advantage of online voice CTAF. Refer to this informative VATPAC Forum post to learn how to implement the work around. Similarly, this work around has been reported to be successfully adopted for X-Plane using the X-Squawkbox client. As of yet there are no available instructions for doing this. Event Details This week VFR Operations flies between Moorabbin and Stawell. For the Friday flight, VFR Operations will conduct a "Fly in/Fly out" of the Avalon airshow enroute. As such, the flight is to be conducted in two parts. The first from Moorabbin to Avalon where at the completion of that flight a complete reset occurs prior to conducting the next leg Avalon to Stawell. It is a strong recommendation that pilots undertake some familiarisation with the approaches and departures around Avalon prior to participating in this event. Should there be an ATC presence pilots will be expected to understand the relevant procedures. Simulation Date/Time : Current date set to daylight. Weather : Real World / Fair weather if real world is unsuitable for VFR operations. Distance : 164 nm over two legs. Est Flight Time : approx 85 mins Aircraft : Single or twin engine aircraft such as Beechcraft Baron, Mooney Bravo or similar capable of 155 to 185 kias.
