Event Details Simulation Date/Time : Current date set to daylight. Weather : Real World / Fair weather if real world is unsuitable for VFR operations. Distance : 120 nm Est Flight Time : approx 75 mins Aircraft : Single engine piston aircraft such as Cessna 172 or similar capable of 105 to 135 kias. Altitude : Remain clear of Melbourne class C steps. Flightplan File as : YMMB CERB COASTAL.VFR TON WBER WBES LRM YMAV YCES YTQY YTYA CARR YMMB GPS Flightplan is available for FSX and X-Plane FMS and also provided is the original Plan-G flightplan for those that find this useful all enclosed within a Zip archive. Navigation : Pilots familiar with the area can navigate visually, for those less familiar the accompanying GPS Flightplan is the recommended method of navigating the flight plan. Communications Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. Now that VATSIM has introduced AFV (Audio For VATSIM) CTAF can now be used across all VATSIM approved pilot clients. Pilots are requested to tune to the published frequency as detailed in the flight details for an event when operating in or around an aerodome to make and monitor CTAF broadcasts. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM COC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor Unicom (Australia 122.80). It is highly recommended that pilots ensure that at least one of their "on board" COM radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive unicom transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF frequency. Please Note. All pilots should also be vigilant regarding the receipt of text on both unicom and CTAF. If it is discovered there is a pilot participating that is unable to receive voice transmissions, pilots should arrange to also broadcast via text to ensure those pilots without the benefit of voice is able to receive appropriate broadcasts. VATSIM provides an update guide for getting AFV working on each of the approved pilot clients. Pilots unfamiliar with Moorabbin Operations are encouraged to visit and review available information prior to operating within Moorabbin airspace. Event Details This week VFR Operations flies between Moorabbin and Stawell. For the Friday flight, VFR Operations will conduct a "Fly in/Fly out" of the Avalon airshow enroute. As such, the flight is to be conducted in two parts. The first from Moorabbin to Avalon where at the completion of that flight a complete reset occurs prior to conducting the next leg Avalon to Stawell. It is a strong recommendation that pilots undertake some familiarisation with the approaches and departures around Avalon prior to participating in this event. Should there be an ATC presence pilots will be expected to understand the relevant procedures. Simulation Date/Time : Current date set to daylight. Weather : Real World / Fair weather if real world is unsuitable for VFR operations. Distance : 164 nm over two legs. Est Flight Time : approx 85 mins Aircraft : Single or twin engine aircraft such as Beechcraft Baron, Mooney Bravo or similar capable of 155 to 185 kias. Communications : Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. VATSIM pilots connecting to the network using FSCOPILOT/FSINN can install an additional file that provides the ability to tune the CTAF frequency and make voice announcements to other pilots on frequency. These files can be obtained via this link. For pilots connecting to VATSIM using VPilot, there is a work around that enables these pilots to also take advantage of online voice CTAF. Refer to this informative VATPAC Forum post to learn how to implement the work around. Similarly, this work around has been reported to be successfully adopted for X-Plane using the X-Squawkbox client. As of yet there are no available instructions for doing this. Altitude : remain outside Melbourne controlled airspace GPS Flightplan is available for FSX and X-Plane FMS and also provided is the original Plan-G flightplan for those that find this useful all enclosed within a Zip archive. Navigation : Pilots familiar with the area can navigate visually, for those less familiar the accompanying GPS Flightplan is the recommended method of navigating the flight plan. After a long hiatus, GA Madness is back and stronger than ever! What is GA Madness? GA Madness focuses on the smaller side of aviation. It's designed to test a controller’s limits with high workload into small airports, with VFR and IFR aircraft. GA Madness focuses on class D airports and this time we’ll be focusing on Essendon, Avalon and Moorabbin. Where can I fly? These airports are some of the busiest airports in Australia, however, don't get enough TLC from our controllers. You are welcome to conduct circuts, local area flights or even instrument operations. You may also want to fly a scenic route over the CBD! For those who are looking for longer flights, you could travel across the Bass Strait or perhaps conduct a Jetgo flight to another airport. The choice is yours! Bring plenty of fuel and some charts as our controllers assist you to navigate through one of the busiest TMA's in the country. The Details! Sunday, 8th April 2018 ATC Will be provided from 0200z-0600z ||1200 - 1600 AEST Full details on the forums here https://forums.vatpac.org/index.php/topic,18679.0.html ATC Applications will close Friday 30MAR18. The roster will be published by Sunday 01APR18.
