I had previously installed the Aero Commander 500 (Cargo Version) from here

    http://www.flightsimonline.com/ac500/

It has some interesting detailing, from beaten up poorly maintained drug runner rust buckets with cracked and peeling trim, guages that would stick or fail and required tapping on them to get them to work again, to well maintained and clean units, so not sure it that created the one shown but assume it did otherwise the livery is a match to a real one for that callsign, or perhaps it was in FSX Accelerated version as an AI.

The link you provided for the Aero Commander I couldn't see where to download on that page but did see it was the same Package and Version 107 as one I posted a different link to in an earlier post, so no worries there in the end. I have now downloaded the Turbo Commander from the link you provided so thanks for that.

Geez I might have to look at building a bigger hangar just for all these extra aircraft I seem to be accumulating.

  2. After the flight the other night and people talking about wizz wheels I googled and found a downloadable printable base version of an E6B here

    http://ben.com/flying/e6b/

After talking to Daryl last night he wanted me to post this it on the forum This is a very simple and versatile tool that any pilot should have to help calculate a number of things. Daryl asked if I could post a pic of what it also looked like as it is very easy to make and the cost was a huge $2.

I used 2 (A4) sheets of cardboard. I found that this makes it a lot more rigid than a paper one. You should be able to obtain the sheets from newsagents or afts/crafts stores. There are a variety of colours if you want rather than plain white. I chose orange outer and green inner section.

There are instructions on page 1 which state cutting the centre section out of the back and cutting and folding the tabs on the front section to assemble together. Instead I used a small brass eyelet which was a lot easier and quicker too do also. You can get a small pack of brass eyelets at crafts shops like spotlight which includes the punch for the hole and a flaring tool for the eyelet ring when joining them together.

    this was the end result

I appreciate that sometimes it takes a lot to own up to a mistake, more so when done in the forum arena. Yes sometimes things certainly do happen that we will never be able to understand or sort out that go on inside one's computer. I am sure I have a alien AI Pilot hiding in mine trying to sabotage flights whenever it can, so can understand and relate to that also, so as far as I am concerned apology accepted and now water under the bridge.....but...cant vouch for the other rabble....anyway until next time.

  4. Well another good roll up sunday night and as always a fun flight, a few more attempting the challenge of a full stop landing at Lady Elliott, Damn it is hard to stop before the end of the buildings though. Captured Leighs touchdown who showed us where we are supposed to get the wheels down on the deck and a good landing to boot too

What a shame that at the end at Hervey Bay some larger a/c bulldozed there way through traffic already on the circuit. One coped jetwash which put him straight into the deck and then the person logged off without even taxing off the runway

    Not happy Jan.....

  5. Hamilton Island .... or Hervey Bay LOL

Yes what a great fun flight. As always good company and rollup with the VFR Operations.

Having Daryl's input during the flight telling us of his real life experiences flying the service to Lady Elliott certainly captured everyone's attention.

What a great twist when he got us to simulate what he used to do and call up to the Island using Teamspeak 3.

One thing I had not ever tried to work out was how you calculated timing a leg so it was great having that explained in a simple easy to understand way then to use it as a measuring means on the flight all put together started to make sense. This was great when we did the leg out to Lady Elliott as until you got within a few miles of it, it was like looking for one particular grain of sand on a beach trying to find it. Having to minimize and not use either Plan G and FS Commander so we couldnt use them to see where the island was relative to where we were was highlighted when they were later maximised again and showed the flight tracks of us all going all over the shop looking for it. Then of course the challenge of making a full stop landing there as well...........that was another thing altogether.

To think Daryl said he got paid $124 a trip ..... but then would have lobster for lunch.... geez that just capped it all off.

After trying to assimulate what he used to do regularly on the run the way as instructed I reckon he most certainly deserved and earnt it.

Not sure if it is Ants Aussie Airports or OZx but they sure did do a good job or making it like the real thing

Anyway can't wait to do it all again Sunday Night see if I can land the first time and stop where Daryl said they used to stop. Gotta get the approach speed down more

  6. Gday Trent

Pete Smith told me about this earlier in the arvo so flew from Warnervale and followed the Old Pacific Hwy through Doyalson etc to Aeropelican then west back across Rathmines to Freemans Waterhole and up the Hunter Valley to Cessnock maintaining 800' with T&G at both Areopelican and Cessnock. i was looking forward to joining in the fun later but unfortunately got home late so missed out...damn.....

I was born and bred in Newcastle and travelled a lot between Newcastle - Sydney in my youth nearly 2000miles a month on what was the hwy, long before the expressway we now know was even built so knew the region reasonably well. I was also stationed at Gloucester for a couple of years before transferring to Taree so one might say I knew the region almost intimately with some 5000sq miles in the patrol area we covered. Stroud Road to the south, Gloucester tops Range up to SW, Barrington tops to the dingo gates, Walcha Road to the North, Krambach to the east. Riding a motorbike I got to know the Bucketts Way quite well also and found the scenery was pretty good portrayal of the real thing.

Ok aside from all that I would like to ask if would you mind being the author of this flight if I could use it with a flight for the Coffs Flight Simmer Group in the near future.

    Cheers Ross

  7. yes what a great turn up ashame ATC didnt hang back for when we all got going.

No matter as always a good flight and good company.

Tonights run of the flight (Sunday) was even more interesting as those that were there (9) found out.

Peter (VH-PFS) spotted something off in the distance and on further investigation had us all heading to the location to check out some objects that have been placed in the scenery. originally I posted accolades to the Orbx team and must apologise as credit is really to the team at OZx instead, Sneaky buggers, yet another treasure hidden in their scenery for the adventurous to discover.

    Pics to follow

  9. I would like to acknowledge John Oien who is one of the regular VFR Operation flyers. Even though he is currently residing overseas he created a scenery at Merimbula which was given to some of the other flyers to beta test on Friday night. Johno well done mate it is very good and by far better than the default. Not sure if Ants or OZx cover it but was markedly better when yours was installed. Good work

  10. Hi David uhm (Neil and Zhong) thanks for understanding and responding to where I was coming from with my post as it was not meant in the least to be personal. I comprehend what you (D Zhong) are saying with the timeline and prioritising faster inbound jets and I was not merely referring to last night as there have been several similar incidents on other panic stations events with some of the other VFR aircraft when the VFR Operations flights correspond with Panic Stations.

I suppose the one thing I dont understand though is if I am directed onto final and Cleared to land then prior to touchdown told to 'Go around' especially when the runway is clear due to an aircraft inbound but still some distance out that simply does not make any sense at all. This was the case for one specific I recall at Cairns but there have been a number of similar things where the VFR flyers have been forgotten whilst in the pattern waiting their turn and then seeing inbound IFR aircraft getting preference quite some time later to come straight in. I dont think that is reasonable or fair.

The example last night was I was inside controlled airspace after getting clearance to enter and directed onto a heading and altitude which brought me in behind 2 other aircraft who were directed in to land. I dont know if it was merely that I did not have audio comms but I could still communicate by text but some 15 mins with no other aircraft landing during that time eiterh I was forgotten about waiting for heading directions as would be the case. I eventually flew right across the controlled airspace and out the other side only to be told when I asked to change frequencies as I was no longer in the ctz. When I did finally get clearance and was on final was advised to speed it up as I had 2 fast inbounds right up my clacker that had not been within 100nm when i was in the ctz the first time. That is what I am getting at.

  11. My only gripe being that being VFR, it seems we get put on the backburner quite often in preference to IFR even though they are not anywhere within cooee of the airport. I am aware of at least several incidents in recent times where VFR Operations a/c have been either ignored or pushed back in the list to the point of requesting taxi to rwy for departure (flightplans already submitted) then waiting while other IFR are doing prelim checklists at terminals. Last night at least 3 VFR a/c gave up waiting to be given clearance to enter CTZ when no other a/c were in the area at all. As to my flight last night when I finally got clearance to enter CTZ was given a heading and altitude then appeared to be following 2 other inbound IFR who were given directions in to land. I however appeared to have been forgotten and subsequently whilst maintaining heading and alt as directed flew back out of the CTZ and then advised when further request was made advised to contact CENTER as I was no longer in CTZ. This seems to be a pattern with the VFR group that IFR take precedence even to the point of another Panic Station event where a VFR a/c was on final and told to go around as there was an IFR inbound but would have easily have landed prior to the IFR being on Final. If you are on final and the runway is clear I would think that you would be no 1 to land not to go around as someone behind is given preference. One VFR lost all instruments last night and only had radio comms and then called mayday as lost engine power on approach and on landing I understand that there is procedures but if the radio is locked to one frequency and all electrics die then how does one change that frequency to contact ground. Ok I have had my dummyspit and that aside appreciate the effort by those that do put there hand up to do the ATC. Most times it all goes like it should but sometimes it becomes quite frustrating so some constructive feedback. I am still learning and if I have the protocols wrong as to prioritising IFR to VFR then I apologise if I have offended anyone. We are all here to share and enjoy this great simulation.

  12. Wow ......

Who said that a little knowledge can be dangerous. Sheesh.... no way

Being a novice sim pilot I am forever wondering what I am going to be asked next that I do not understand when ATC are online.

Reading this thread am now understanding yet another little part of what they are asking in the Communication phraseology protocols which at the end of the day are merely simple requests

"ABC report visual" or "ABC Report in-flight conditions" which are simply asking for a simple reply (KISS - Keep is stupidly simple)

In the end it all comes down to education and training to generate a virtual simulation that we should enjoy.

Thanks to those who do perform roles as ATC for without them these issues would not be raised and would make for a boring simulation otherwise online.

  13. What an interesting night several aircraft and numerous issues with computer or aircraft issues then throw an american ATC in and then having some radio communication problems all added to a fun flight. I set mine to fly the last part of daylight with an ETA at the final destination just on dusk. Just to see what effects if any the sunlight might show in the canyon depths. I think the pictures show the result

from withdrawing sunlight on one side of the canyon walls and the other side darkening in shadows

    31-10-10SunsettingintheCanyon.jpg

and general lighting created darker shadows

    311010Canyondisappearinginshadow.jpg

to quite gloomy near the end

I am also running UTX USA scenery and wanted to see if Grand Canyon AR township lit up as the darkness closed in as indicated in reviews for townships. They sure do

  14. Gday all

Steve I have attached a Plan G screen shot that shows the proposed flight plan that my group will be doing later in November that I was telling you about. If anyone wants to fly it within the usual 1hr timeframe then you will need an aircraft that needs to be snap responsive aerobatically and be able to maintain 275kias throughout the flight as the twists and turns at that speed sure do make it snap this way and that when trying to following the true course of the river down low just above the river  Enjoy ;) :D

forgot to add but the start is at Flagstaff which is the airport at the bottom right corner of the map display ending up at Las Vegas.
