  1. ROFLMAO Quigs someone forgot to tell Barbs it is the spilled milkrun not the milkrun ;)

Had a good 7.5hrs with ATC popping up on arrival at Cairns on the first run and then with a turnaround back to Brisbane with ATC all coming on. had some dinner and last run back to Cairns so all in all was a great night, albeit on arrival into Cairns again the weather and visibility was atrocious. Big thumbs up to our controllers who came on and  made it a good night for those flying 👍

  2. Here are the necessary components of this flight with additional information re STAR approach transition points which I have attached of which only one is close !!!

  3. the one problem and this was also demonstrated in the video is it indeed takes nearly the entire runway to stop then having to turn around and backtrack to the terminal and get off the runway. Clearly timing between arrivals will be absolutely critical. When testing the route yesterday with a mate in his aircraft we did it online to confirm the route in-fact did match what the video shows. ATC would be a bonus for this also as flying online and having to type text announcements while descending into the murk even though completely preoccupied with eyes glued to the instruments to make sure one kept on track ignoring various alarms and warnings 'Terrain Pull Up' screaming at us in the cockpit to find on breaking out of the cloud base an aircraft come straight in across the front of me not 500m away and land immediately ahead of me, not a single message was seen on unicom announcing their intention at all  :-X I was maybe 10-20 secs behind at touchdown and saw a further 2 aircraft on the runway at the other end, again no text announcements on unicom  (no they weren't AI either) I wont name or shame them but they were showing online on servinfo all had VOZ callsigns.

I was able to power up and climb aborting the landing and made a adhoc missed approach departure and turn to rejoin the approach route again behind my mate where we were then both able to successfully come in and land without any further incident

  4. Ok I am sure a lot of you have seen this breathtaking real-life video of aircraft landing on 05 NZQN (Queenstown NZ) which is absolutely stunning to watch

if you havent seen it here is the link

All the opinions from others stating what approach is taken simply do not add up or match any AIRACs or approach plates at all. There are a lot who say it takes this or that path but geographically the terrain simply does not match what they claim at all.

So I thought why not try to replicate it sometime where other vatpac members in our community group could join in and have a bit of fun attempting it (not to mention mumbled cursing about being bloody mad and warnings going off left right and centre in the aircraft etc) when attempting the same approach route taken as recorded in the the video. Oh and also set it up to replicate the same cloud cover too. yeah I am evil I know

Getting back into the flightsimming and taken on the challenge of PMDG 737-800 makes it just that much more interesting too.

Anyway this is the concept which I have submitted to events. The flight will be advertised for a given night. Flight will be from Christchurch (NZCH) to Queenstown (NZQN) approx 50 mins duration.

There wont be a pre-released flightplan for people to simply go and practice with but see if anyone else can work out the actual route and this can be clarified prior to takeoff where the route waypoints are that do infact match the route and geography shown in the video. The flightplan can then be posted on the forum

    Aircraft: B737-800 or Equivalent

    Departure: NZCH Christchurch

    Destination: NZQN Queenstown

    Flight time: 45 - 50 mins

    Cruise Alt: FL200

    Season: Winter

    Weather Settings:

    Clouds-Stratus

    Cover-8/8

    Cloud Layer Base 1,250' - Top 4,000'

  5. Some of you may recall last year (2017) where Sydney airport in real life had a major breakdown on their radio transmission tower so ATC had no audio communication with the traffic coming and going at the airport. Emergency procedures were put in place resorting to basic all text communications Ground/Tower/Approach all resorted to text communication to all aircraft over several hours. As I recall someone that night on the Milkrun night suggested recreating the same scenario and replicate the same conditions using nothing but text communications for those online. To say a lot of hectic typed messages were going back and forth was an understatement, challenging - Yes, but was also great practice even fun (not so sure about the cursing under ones breath) albeit I now have a bucket of water standing close by to cool down the keyboard if overheating occurs LOL  :-X ;D

  6. Luke if I may suggest in a constructive manner and being qualified as a Regimental Signaller (recommendation to Brigade level) and also as a qualified Marine Radio Operator something I recall that was drummed into us all the time was this 'say things at a speed you could write it down at. It all sounds good rattling off a spiel of instructions sounds good but remember that the guy receiving that information is probably trying to record/write it down. There is no requirement to say it fast.

The only other thing and I am happy to be corrected on is the squawk codes that are assigned are meant to be VFR from 1200 and IFR from 3000

    Otherwise great effort

  7. i thought I would share some information on a recent discovery I came across when looking to set up a tablet as a touch screen CDU (FMC) rather than panning down to view or perform a action on the one in the simulator. I have set up a bracket to hold a 7" Tablet beside my Saitek panels and created a bit of a cockpit layout on my computer desktop. A product was suggested to me which was Virtual Avionics and when I had a look at this software and app discovered that they have Aircraft specific CDU apps available that you can download a trial version of for free and see what it can do even though restricted to a limited area was to say the least impressive. Albeit I got the paid version shortly after for a small cost. First off this is not a sales pitch and I have no claim or affiliation to this software other than being a very satisfied customer of this software purchased. i purchased the 'PMDG 737 CDU' app. The interface is free to download which is run off your flightsim's computer. The interface is straightforward with the installation process without any complication. Having started to learn the intricacies using the CDU and becoming more familiar with what to do etc I can't recommend it enough as a great addon tool and as a replacement panel rather than opening the CDU on the main computer screen or moving ones view down to use it taking attention away from other displays like the HSI and PFD screens. The functionality and response from any tablet input to the simulator computer via wifi the response is almost instant without impacting on the computers other resources that I could detect.

All I can say its well worth checking out and making your own mind up if it is something you could use or set up as an alternate CDU panel.

    cheers Ross QFA1611

  8. Well look what the cat dragged in  :)

    G'day there Daryl

I have got the Multi-switch all working albeit was a bit of a headache to identify the correct command line/strings but now have got it working. if you go to the Spad.Next published profiles and look for the profile 'PMDG 737-800 (test)' author VH-RJF copy it and have a look the Comment section details all the various settings I have got functioning to date. Let me know if you want to talk over it sometime and can jump online in Teamspeak mate.

  9. Gday Ryan

How did you go with those guides (links) did they help you with your situation mate.

Yes it has been a while between drinks mate and happy to help if I can where possible. I am certainly no expert but always challenging myself to understand how things work. Have even ventured to the dark side (I can hear Daryl laughing) learning the inticacies of flying the PMDG 737 and just starting to get my head around it a bit more. One other thing I have found is that the default control settings are quite limited especially when trying to use any Saitek hardware - Yoke Pedals, Throttle quadrant radio multi and switch panels. As Saitek is now owned by Logitech and tried their latest drivers which again do not allow full funcionallity and in constant discussion with another simmer we have both been setting our setups up using Spad.Next (payware) but now have got everything working even to the point of having one of the throttle quadrant levers set in reverse axis and performs like the spoiler lever and other 2 levers work as thrust levers for each engine with the down detent activating revers thrust on each engine also so am starting to have a lot of fun (and cursing) using all switches and levers as if in the aircraft :)

  10. G'day Ryan

there's a plethera of information out there mate. I have the 1060 albeit big brother 6Gb ram but when setting up found various information and you might check this one at AVSIM, it has the links to download nVidia Profile Inspector which will provide relative specs on what uses what for you. Easy pretty screen pics showing what the instructions are talking about.

    https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/515764-p3d-v4-settings-gtx-1070-solved/

I also found this YouTube with settings for P3Dv4 and the 1060 card. Interesting re settings which I applied and indeed improved things noticeably

I notice you indicated your using AS16 You will find on the their website this is not compatable with P3D v4 but is up to v3. They have released an upgrade specifically for v4 which is a stand alone update which is named as ASP4

Anyway hopefully these might be of some help to you mate

    Cheers Ross

  11. G'Day Peter

    Thanks for your reply

Neither Stratto or myself have or use FS Real-Time so can safely say that it is not the problem.

    G'day Joshua

Again FS Real-Time is not the problem here and yes we have gone right through FSUIPC5 (specifically for P3Dv4) and all settings within with any reference to time settings. Unfortunately its impossible to test P3D without FSUIPC5 as it is required to be running.

    G'day Chris W

    Hny ? really LOL

Anyway as stated above have done complete clean re-installs 'by the numbers' and exhausted the process of elimination so to speak to try and isolate any and all add-on Software to confirm or remove them as the culprit causing his problem.

See my reply above re FS Real-time. As for WIN 10 we have both been using it for nearly 2 yrs so quite familiar with it and near always run things as admin unless specifically stated not to.

Stratto and I are both registered members on ORBX.

Funny you referenced Elaine 'POPPET' who surprisingly replied this morning to a post Stratto put on AVSIM forum and appears to have literally hit the nail on the head to the culprit (offending files).

Know Stratto was currently doing a test run to check it works correctly and was retaining whatever time was selected at an airport. I told him to touch wood (he said he was holding his head) as it all appeared to be working correctly now which is what mine was able to do.

The offending files for anyone elses information are located in

    C:<users><your name><AppData><Local><Lockheed Martin><Prepar3D v4>

File names are [Prepar3D_Default.fxml] and [Prepar3D_Default.wx]

    Thanks for the replies anyway

    Regards Ross

  12. Here is one for all those who are using the latest Prepar3D v4.1 software.

Having just rebuilt an entirely new system and installed the latest P3D v4.1 simulator software which I think runs rings around FSX been trying to help out another simmer who also has just installed P3D v4.1 also. However he is having no end of trouble getting his to run properly even after several complete wipes and re-install of DRIVES etc. He has sent several emails to Lockheed Martin for support (which to me is a joke) which to date they haven't even posted his issue let alone responded to and the answer appears to be automated on submission to redirect all enquiries to the FORUMS...... WTF.

Looking on their site there doesn't even appear to have any link to Technical Support you can go to or contact. Just go to Forums and search for your answers in FAQ...WOW.

So this is why I am reaching out and asking one and all who have P3Dv4 in the VATPAC community who I know will respond or be able to suggest things if any of you have experienced the following problem.

You select an airport and a time of day you want to fly but when it initially loads it then reloads the database and ignores the time you selected and load the actual real-time at that airport.

Example I set 0900(L) at Los Angeles KLAX daytime but in real world time it say 2200(L) night time and reloads it at that time not what was selected.

I am able to set mine at any Airport world wide and get the time of day I selected. However when VATPAC member (VH-CST) who also has P3D v4 on his system loads the same time and airport loads correctly then before he can do anything it starts to rebuild Scenery Data etc and load the sim at the airport selected to the real world time at that airport. he cannot select what time of day he want to fly. We have cross referenced settings etc mine works fine his will not. We have by process of elimination isolated Aivlasoft EFB, ASv4 are not the cause as this still keeps occurring even when they are not running.

    Thanks in advance

    Regards Ross (VH-RJF)

  13. Well what a marathon that was yesterday and hats off to the dedicated ATC for the duration.

Tried to do 3 separate Qantas linked flights Commencing and returning to Adelaide via Melbourne then Sydney. Albeit had to change flight callsign for the last one as someone else was using it such is life. Was a good challenge to try and marry up each flight at arrival with a 30 min turnaround for the next. Slight error on the operators part for the last one nearly 40 mins longer than calculated just over 6 hrs of almost constant flying and resubmitting new flightplans for each leg must say learnt a lot using Aivlasoft's EFB so easy adding the SIDs/STARs to the flight when identified what was being used at each airport. Well done to the winners and sure was a busy route from Melbourne to Adelaide to keep the ATC on their toes was great to see one after another aircraft arriving and all guided in to land in an orderly fashion. Happy to have been part of it.

  14. Good job Peter, thanks for updating the data. I do understand that would still have been a big task. When I first did it every entry had to be created in spreadsheet to start with to create a foundation updating those would have been a lot easier I would imagine. I look back and wonder where my head was when I took on the task of creating the database

Maybe Peter might want to start on Europe or America as no one has done them at all, I had a look and thought no way getting too old would have been a brain overload for sure. LOL

  15. Zach

I hate to say this yet again but in the flightplan information details it is suggested that we are flying low and slow but this is clearly not the case when considering the distance and timing. This is completely out of sync seeing that 164 nm even at 120 kias would be 1.27 hrs not 1.10 hrs as suggested let alone appear to take into consideration that one usually slows down for T&G's or takes into consideration having to join a circuit let alone other traffic in the immediate vicinity which is what we always have in VFR Ops.

  16. Hi Zach

I have just noticed the new layout on the webpage which indeed looks good.

I see that it has some links to scenery for ORBX AUS and OZx which are great. Some other Airport scenery that also should definitely be included are YORB Orbost and YMCO Mallacoota. and further up YMER Merimbula.

These are also on the OZx Website and free to download also and were created by John Oien who also flies with us when he gets a chance. Johno even has been able to manage functional PAL lighting which are as far as I know are the only ones in FSX anywhere.

    Mallacoota - http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/file/2963-mallacoota-ymco-vic-fsx/

    Orbost - http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/file/2880-orbost-yorb-vic-australia/

    And Merimbula - http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/file/2453-merimbula-ymer-nsw-australia/

I would also like to suggest shortening the VFR legs. Even 240nm does not allow any scope for approaches for T&G at numerous airports but more for Departure - Destination flights like IFR. I along with others have noted that this has been occurring on a number of recent VFR LEGS and not allowing to take in the scenery available and ends up being well over the usual time frame just to complete by-passing many airstrips along the way. Just my thoughts anyway.

  17. Zach

Re the websites Flight details and information. Across Australia for Leg 6 in VFR Operations there is a basic summary at the top to say we visit airports which is fine but then in the 'Flight details' the same thing not specific information to the flight like head (E, W, N, S) whatever to Airport [iCAO] for T&G/overfly etc reflecting the actual flight Route information.

The link for the PLN flightplan download also is not working.

    Regards Ross (VH-RJF)
