  1. Found this stream that was recorded by one of the participants during the event. Albeit from Innsbruck to London in an A320. If you move forward to the 1.28min mark you will start to hear what the new AFV Beta voice transmissions sound like with ATC comms, even with accent still clearly legible and showed just how hectic it was. Some 86 (ATC) 551 (PILOTS) all over the UK. As you will hear it was almost impossible to get a transmission in to the various ATC when joining a frequency. Aircraft were on holds left right and centre (and were there for over 15 mins) WOW. I got giddy watching him go round and round. Was happy I decided not to go to Heathrow and did Schiphol to Gatwick instead after hearing there ATC. Was still busy and great experience to be part of it anyway.

  2. This is a bit off topic to the FS EXPO but is directly related to the topic of the AFV Beta testing however.

On Sunday the 25 Aug between 1300z - 1700z another larger stress test was held in conjunction with the UK major VATSIM event UK-Live where a large gathering of ATC were at a conference to cover almost every tower in the UK with over 550 pilots all online interacting with the ATC. There was a plethora of VFR, commercial even apparently an aerobatic display at one airport conducted during the Test which appears to have been an outstanding success.

Anyway one of the focuses of the test was for Xplane and the Xsquawkbox, swift clients. Also the implementation and testing of new voice coded ATIS. This I must say was almost as good as the ATC voice a vast improvement.

At this stage no indication as to when AFV will be released as the new voice system online. But it sounds sooner than later. Fingers crossed it is soon

  3. VATSIM are in latter stages of AFV (Audio for Vatsim) which will again full voice transmissions using Airport CTAF frequencies which other pilots in local proximity will hear like we had previously with FSInn. Testing is in the advanced stages and expected full release before the end of 2019 from discussions on the test forum re this.

Couldn't agree more with Active Sky (ASV4 for P3Dv4) as the best weather engine for accuracy and realism. I also found a very good easy guideline to setting it up with other addons - REX Skyforce3D - ASCA (ActiveSky Cloud Art) - ENVTEK. Here is the link for the guide https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/528372-discussion-rex-sky-force-3d-with-active-sky-asca-envtex-tutorial/?tab=comments#comment-3785250

here is a new one that is called 'RealTurb' which was developed by a RL pilot and takes realism to a new level with how wind turbulence is generated from the shape of the mountains and valleys etc and creates realistic effects on aircraft even more realistically and is used in conjunction with ASv4. the new 'Oceania' area covers a massive area. More details in this review here https://flightsimcentral.net/realturb-oceania-review-p3d-v4/  This is only available at simMarket I believe and there is also Europe and North America. Africa and Antarctica is Freeware.  After installing it all I can say is I am a lot more wary of crosswinds, windshears alerts, downdrafts as they are now a whole new thing to experience :o. Absolutely worth the money.

  4. Sorry Tristan was referring to the day before we did the expo flights which you weren't there. LOL

But yes indeed you were there on the day so how about some feedback from an ATC point of view m8 especially loved the block tone when multiple transmissions occurred.

I get reports from 'GrizzlyBearSims' who does writeups and notifications on numerous new applications etc with 'planes trains and automobiles'.  He just posted his findings and gave a rundown on Audio For Vatsim (AFV) from the Expo. here are some links to his flight and also the voice ATIS and how they sounded.

    Voice ATIS - here

Various Pilot and ATC transmissions - here

Will let you be the judge on what it sounds like......

  5. Joshua there are couple youtube clips to show what the initial tests and quality of voice transmissions were like from the old to the new and both Sam and I after getting the Beta vPilot server connected to it and did some tests yesterday at YMML. Voice on any frequency - CTAF will be back. We both dialled in UNICOM 122.80 and some of the things that have been identified is if you are outside the range of the transmitting aircraft you won't hear anything which is limited as such to around 10nm on the ground but the range increases with the altitude of the aircraft so if 2 aircraft are on same frequency and within 10nm of one another they will hear the other transmit similarly if you are not within the range neither will hear the other. Likewise we set up different frequencies and pilot on one and other pilot on other frequency and nothing is heard. So effectively we will be able to use correct CTAF's and voice again simply by dialling in the CTAF frequency at that location. Clarity of voice was unbelievable also :o9_9:D

Unfortunately unless you got added to beta testing (permissions) even if you install the beta server you wont be able to connect to it. We tried that also with couple but they were adding a heap on the beta test list last night by the Admins on the Discord site. They have 370 scheduled flights in/out of KMCO averaging 30 an hr over the duration of the Expo. There were several drop outs on the server which were addressed as they happened by the Beta Dev Team

Image shows the beginning of the day which was a little quiet to start with

  6. Thanks Josh didnt know where to post the event but seeing that it is a major VATSIM test for online comms albeit still in beta thought it was the right place.

Good one Tristan. What booking slot did you get and what will be your callsign ?

I have 13:45z Sunday MIami to Orlando as QFA1611 just to throw a cat amongst the pidgeons with a Qantas 737 there LOL.

Anyway looking forward to it, especially if the clarity and quality of the audio is as good as the first release test portrays. Can only be a good thing if it sounds as good as the video.

  7. Anyone here intending to be a participant with AFV (Audio for VATSIM) which is being tested on a large scale and will be demonstrated live at the EXPO. The expo is being held in Orlando ?

Booking a flight slot for the event are going fast but timing of event each day is between 13:30 - 17:00 (UTC) or 23:30 - 05:00 (AEST)

    Event details here

  8. Hi Andrew, I put it here in the forum to see if there was enough interest in doing it as an event and the concept of trying to figure the flight out off the video as a challenge. I did in fact send request to events at vatpac and other than initial response that they would look into it in the future that has been the extent of it, yet the quite obvious lack of flights posted on the events calendar every week wonder why it wasnt added. Since posting the original as you can see there has been only 2 others who had a go aside from myself and my mate hence it sort of defeats the challenge now that I have shown the route taken but certainly more than welcome to create one on VATNZ let me know as I will be in for sure. The proper star approaches now used all come in from the northwest and follow the lake into NZQN.

On an aside I notice you're one of the accumap devs. How is the upgraded v2 coming along cant wait as v1 is good as it is !

  9. Was surprised that there was not more interest in this it was like flogging a dead horse with only 2 people having a go and getting back to me albeit one did it with clear weather but was still off the mark, the other was ready to kill me for the torture I put him through for hrs trying to figure it out and was ready to commit Harikari.... LOL.  When I spoke to him and we set up and went through it even then said no way they would go in that way especially with the conditions etc.

I then showed another real life approach in clear weather where this path was taken. I only wish I had also seen that one before I tried to work it out too. But I did eventually work it out using some good old basic map terrain orientation (seems all that army training did work after all)

As there has been no further response from the heirachy on doing this as an event, here is the route for those who wish to have a go at it and do it with the weather condition settings indicated.

Various geographic references that you will be able to identify in the video and their respective time reference points are also marked. Enjoy

  10. G'day Lionel

Been a while since the days of VFR flights but just read your post and just to clarify you dont need to delete these files every time you start up just if you have start up issues and let the sim rebuild a clean set of files if needed.

Cheers Ross formerly VH-RJF now QFA1611

  11. MIchael I may be wrong here but as I understand it you don't need AVC to communicate when there is ATC online BN-DOS-CTR or other online Towers/Approach etc. They set up a comms room which you connect to when you dial in the comm frequency. AVC is a step towards non manned CTAF frequencies outside of the online ATC to advise your intentions persae which in essence is replacing the CTAF frequency of that airport as a makeshift channel (room) for that airport so other pilots connected to that ICAO channel will be able to hear and communicate so others at that airport will hear but others not in that channel room wont hear your calls as VFR announcements

  12. also have chase-plane albeit still in beta test phase mates works without any issue mine works for a while then get massive go slow on everything for some reason. As Josh indicated there are some excellent videos on youtube on setting these up and have got mine set on some of the switches on my yoke for Captains cockpit position slides right to FO view with hat switch to pan around another to go to center console and lower and upper overhead panels which transitions smoothly with some adjusting of the curves in the profile panel on chaseplane

  13. asking the obvious here when you indicated your cockpit looked stretched are you running multiple monitors. This is a simple correction within the sim under <options><General><Display> where in the View and Panel Settings check the box for 'Wide-view Aspect Ratio' then you simply re-adjust the zoom to around 50% to a almost normal visual spread across the display with minimal stretching on the edges.

Active Sky (AS16) is compatable with FSX and P3Dv3. There is indeed an upgrade for v4 but as it is a completely separate format does cost but you only pay a small amount to the full price as an upgrade.

    • Thanks 2
  14. I agree Richard. After also doing a rebuild and transition to P3D I haven't bothered with Plan G at all after the rubbish that went on with their change from v2 and use of google mapping to v3 with Quest mapping which I found was woeful with VFR flying. FSTramp is another that isn't too bad. I have been learning to fly the PMDG 737 and found Aivlasoft's EFB is brilliant so not looked back and not considered looking at Plan G any further.

Indeed maintaining the Navigraph AIRACS addresses these issues also.

Another one I have had a look at recently that someone pointed out is VfrFlight which is very similar to Plan G but again uses Google Maps which is IMHO far superior.

  15. Yes there has been some that dont identify the callsign prefix. As indicated if you don't have the correct Airline identifier - eg: Qantas (QFA) it will not match up (QF, QA, Q) will not work

Virgin (VOZ) not (VA) there were some others but did not notice what they were other than Vpilot advised modelmatch not found and tries to find suitable aircraft match albeit the models are predominately USA liveries they have there.

Forgot to mention they advise regularly check via their 'BVAI Operations Center' for updates which I just did and there are a further 56 aircraft updates it added

  16. downloaded and all working now one has to follow the instructions carefully  or it does not work but it  certainly creates a much more authentic scenario with the various lighting changing on the respective aircraft landing taking off taxiing pushing back etc etc

  17. thanks for the link Daniel installing now after reading their forum posts on what they are claiming will be portrayed online especially in P3D. To see other online aircraft replicate the liveries more accurately, even to the detail of where individual aircraft lighting as selected by the pilots will be more accurately represented and displayed also. Albeit downloading atm is tedious which they do indicate best time is late at night <sigh>
