  1. In your example, after I got to B10 I would switch to 120.5 and say something like this "Tower, MHN, requesting clearance for VFR departure on runway 16L".

Not quite Jase, all you need to do on B10 is change to towers frequency. When you get to the runway as the ground controller instructed you contact them with: "MHN, ready runway 16L on B10 for the circuit." They will then probably repeat what the clearance was that you got. "MHN, remain in the circuit not above 1000 and report late downwind, runway 16L, cleared for takeoff."

The purpose of changing to towers frequency is they own that movement area and if they need to give you a hold instruction because, for example and aircraft used the full length of the runway, they can. Ground would have given you a standard taxi route, or if a non-standard one was used they would have already coordinated this with the tower controller.

  2. Hi Jase,

Welcome to VATSIM. It's perfectly fine to ask to do circuits during a milk run event. However like in the real world, the controller may feel that the airspace is already too busy and deny you clearance.

In the real world, you would have coordinated your circuits with ATC via phone before the flight. I would recommend that you do this via private message on VATSIM. That way you can coordinate the runway to use and altitude restrictions.

Once your ready, simply call to request taxi. I would say "Ground, MHN, VFR Baron, request taxi to runway XX, with information X"

Then if I was the controller I would say: "MHN, taxi via G C Cross Rwy 07/25 Continue C B10 for Runway 16L. On B10 contact Tower 120.50"

  3. Good afternoon all,

While I have not kept army virtual active at all. The website and information is all still there. I have given all the pages a bit of a revamp quickly to make most the content responsive to mobiles etc. If you want to take a chopper for a fly you can do that with us. You can fly either the Dodosim Bell 206 Jetranger, Cerasim UH60L or the Milviz CH47F Chinook. All fun choppers to fly.

Check it out if your interested. www.armyvirtual.com

  4. Just to clear up any doubt. Paragraph 4.1.2 of the Canberra Local Instruction clearly says when no TMA controller is online then SNO will assume responsibility for Canberra TMA down to 8500 and Class G below 8500.

Greg and Kirk have both made it clear about what the terminology means. Given this is a simulated environment where people don't have ready access to a TAC, which would allow you to know what the CTA LL is, then I would agree that the last scenario that Greg detailed would be the safest and least ambiguous. This is also the method I employ to make it clear to the aircraft when they are in fact leaving the control area.

    Safe flying

  5. So I believe that the controller would need to provide ATC down to A085 as the lower limit of Class E. Canberra is a weird airfield in that the Class C tower is not H24 and does close leaving the airfield Class G. In saying this, this is not explained very well and for the majority of simulations Canberra is considered Class C H24. If you want to email me the details I'll look into this for you more...

  7. Hello,

A recent review of the Procedural Tower Policy has highlighted some confusion regarding the requirements for completing the Procedural Tower Endorsement. A page on the operations site has been amended to be a supplement to the VATPAC Policy that further clarifies the requirements. It also goes into detail about why some Class D towers require the endorsement while others do not.

  8. As a new member how do I go about setting up comms via vpilot to access controllers and generally getting my flights underway. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi Allan, I found these series of videos to be relatively good. Not made  by this region, however they are generic enough. The first three will directly answer your questions.

  9. Hey Peter, I noticed while controlling from a CTR that I couldn't see SID and STARs. How easy are they to add? I usually go an copy and paste them myself, but was wondering if maybe they should already be there? When I'm on as a Enr Controller it is rare to see a TMA controller on, so I usually have to provide a TMA service as well.

  10. This looks sick as. Makes me wonder... What's the chance I could get a A320 to land at Bankstown? 😊

By the way... Is the QLD airfield your talking about also able to take a 747? 😁 Here's to hoping!
