  1. If OzRunways was to provide you with a discounted version of their software for use with flight sim only, would you subscribe? The approximate cost would be $50 per year and would give you all charts, maps and information provided by Air Services Australia or Airways New Zealand.

  2. Dean... you didn't actually pose any question.

Sure I will do better... is that not what we all want to do!

You pose a question... and I will answer it. By putting a "?" at the end of a statement does not make it a question :)

FYI. I suspect we will both be kicked out of this thread as it is off topic!

  3. I understand.

That’s why in the past 5 months [not just last 3] you have connected at VATOCE1 as follows

    May 21 minutes

    June 0 minutes

    July 0 minutes

    August 38 minutes

    September 0 minutes

    October 0 minutes

In fact it’s been 60 days since you last connected at VATOCE1. On average in the past 5 months you have been connected for 20 minutes a month.

    The numbers don’t lie.

Do the VATSIM CoC apply to all? Or can we pick and choose which rules we adhear too?

    Last 6 mths...

Dean, all these people above are hard working administrators on this network... trying hard to make it better for you all. The time we spend logged onto the network can not be matched by the countless and unseen hours spent attending to emails, teamspeak conversations and all he other work that is done to help you.

Maybe this can be part of the equation you have presented. It strikes deep to be criticised about ones commitment when many many hours have be put in (much to the detriment of our real jobs) to work in the jobs we have been intrusted.

  4. Sean, that is not the case at all!

Can we all please stop with the negativity!

Paul and I spent most of our day yesterday putting hours and hours of work into this.... for the members! I receieved an email at 14:52 yesterday say what you now know! Callum and Tracy were also involved and we didn’t stop planning for this until 1 am this morning.

Your comments above are way way way off! The email you got is asking for you to come! We want you there! It would be amazing if you can be there to whole day 10am to 4pm!

So like the email says, please all come along if you can and help us promote VATSIM!

And instead of your post, I’m sure given that in the last 16 hours we have working tirelessly and at the expenses of our jobs to try and do something good and positive, some positive energy back would be better received.

So like the email, the post on the forums, the post on social media... please come and spend the day with the stall so we promote VATSIM to the Brisbane Expo!

  5. Good morning everyone!

I hope you are all enjoying your Saturday.

I give you my gaurantee that there will be full and meaningful consultation and discussion. I think everyone’s focus for the minute should be on supporting Tracy and the new board to bring back stability. Conversations about our future need to wait till we as a Region are again ready. That determination needs to be made by your board.

If any of you want to talk to me (because we all know that written communication is highly subjective), my number is on the VATOCE website.

  6. Yeh no... that would go against value number 5. Unless of course you would like to solve this via a postal ballot that I will just ignore at the end, and still do whatever I like?

  7. So I signed up in grade 12 then joined the army before I could do anything. Basic training and employment training took two years so that will most likely explain that. Admittedly VATSIM was a different entity and was rather new then, and was no where near as complex or realistic as it is now.

I wouldn’t like to think no one is rude obnoxious or self-centred also, the reality is those people do exist here in some form. The VATSIM forums is good place to find some of these.

Yep totally agree that it is “Julia Gillard” speech, however I draw the line at being compared to Donald Trump. Although those speeches are necessary.

How about we transition this conversation away from he said she said and I don’t like you speeches to... what real changes can we make to our values. Values need to come first because they underpin what we do next. Most people think they are not necessary but those people just think we don’t need to write them down... I’m sure they have values they believe in with regards to VATSIM??

  8. Thanks Quig, I respect your reply.

To respond briefly. At this point in time, as it stands there is very little plan. The only thing that has been actioned so far is for me to make some good (in my opinion) but largely insignificant appointments. Which absolutely and utterly don’t effect VATPAC or VATNZ in any way.

I released the values statement because the communication was not getting through. Though this communication has started now which is good. I hope very soon we can all sit down have a chat about the values and tweak them to work for us, but until they where released I couldn’t see anyway for the process to start (short of posting publicly in the forums, which I reluctantly did in the end).

You make some serious and valid points. I really do hope when we organise, perhaps a whole of staff TeamSpeak meeting, we can all discuss other people’s ideas and make those changes.

The figures I gave could be cross referenced to other regions and now that you have suggested that I will go do that.

I do challenge you all to be part of this journey then make a judgement on its merits.

  9. Greg, and all other staff

I pose one question for you.

    - In the last 12 months 390 people registered for VATSIM and nominated VATPAC as their home, and have never connected to the network... they have never used their ID.

    - 1,524 members of this division have not connected as a pilot or controller in over 90 days.

    - Of those who have not connected in over 90 days, 95 of those hold an ATC Rating... the people who should be most engaged.

    - Of those who joined in the last 12 months and did actually log on, 112 have already voluntarily left the network.

    - 2,062 members of VATPAC have never attained a pilot rating. However 32 people who joined in the last 12 months had to go to another region in order to get their rating.

Where is the strategy to improve upon these numbers?

There isn’t one... we are to believe that through no effort of our own things will get better... even in a volunteer organisation if you think that is going to happen you’re kidding yourself.

I have a plan. My plan is not about deserting the members who we do have that are loyal. It is not about inflicting martial law. It is not about allowing rude, obnoxious, and self-centred people bring down the network one year at a time.

My plan is about having a plan. A plan to get new members in and keep them. A plan to train people both new and old about aviation. A plan to give more people a say and a job to be part of this journey. A plan to square things away and tidy up our backend.

What you didn’t like is that I want a plan. You wanted to be part of a division that started at the member and ended at you... and that is not going to happen. We are all fish in a sea and what you didn’t like is that while I’m opening peoples eyes your sea was getting smaller. There is a bigger picture out there.

So while we are having this discussion I would encourage everyone to think about these things. Because this region is changing and it’s changing because we are going to have a plan. You can either be part of the plan, put in your suggestions and shape where we go... or not. But what this region won’t do is nothing.

  10. This is exactly the objection I had to these policies being implemented with little to no consultation.  At least it seems now there is some discussion happening.  Can only hope you guys can sort it all out.

Well perhaps the new leadership team will forward on the messages to allow the discussion...

  11. Hey Sean, I agree.

The values statement is the base for exactly that. When it is implemented by a positive team I hope that we as a community will see real growth. The values will drive everything that my team do, and we will be doing this through a strategic plan. A thought out and public document that say to the community and those wanting to join it, what we are doing to make us better.

  12. Hi Greg, thank you for your comment. These positions (if they are filled) will be advertised on the VATSIM, VATPAC and VATNZ forums and through VATSIM, VATOCE, VATPAC and VATNZ Social Media accounts. From there any of the 79,650 members of the VATSIM Network will be welcome to apply.
