  1. I wanted to know what people do about procedural towers when online as a CTR controller. I'm sure there is no hard and fast rule...

I generally give, "Leave control area descending, [traffic info], QNH ..."

But do others provide a procedural service as if there is a tower online?

Thanks Sean, the chart is out of date. CVN is part of DOS. I will get the chart updated.

I think I still have the original files if you want me to fix that?

  3. OZx made a good version of Gympie back in the days. The recent VATPAC VFR event prompted me to update the OZx version and I had two aims.

    1) update the ground poly

    2) give it a slope like in the real world

Now you can enjoy this little strip too.

unfortunately, not for FSX in my case. crashed the sim.

Sorry Joe. I don't have FSX to test it. I will download the FSX SDK and see if I can compile it for FSX too.

  5. Gday, I have updated the Kununara Airport with accurate taxiways and line markings, including photoreal ground textures for the airport. Designed to work with Orbx AUv2 for P3Dv4. It could work for other versions of P3D or FSX, but untested.

To Install: Extract this file to a place for your addon scenery. You must deactivate "ADE_FTX_AUS_YPKU.bgl" by adding after it ".OFF" as an example. This is found in Orbx\p3dv4\AU Australia v2\ORBX\FTX_AU\FTXAUv2_05_SCENERY\scenery. Then activate YPKU Kununara in your scenery library as normal.

  6. Gday, I have made the following photoreal airports that are missing from OZx for this Friday and Sunday VFR event in the Tiwi Islands. They were a learning curve for me, and you will probably notice the one that I did first. They are not perfect but you can land on them. Watch out at Pickertaramoor Airstrip. She is a bit bumpy.

    Port Hurd (YPHU) http://armyvirtual.com/shared/YPHU-Port-Hurd.zip

    Ranku Airport (YRKU) http://armyvirtual.com/shared/YRKU-Ranku-Airport.zip

    Pickertaramoor Airstrip (YPCM) https://www.armyvirtual.com/shared/YPCM-Pickertaramoor-Airstrip.zip

If you would like to see the scenery objects, such as gable markers and sheds, you will need OZx 3.5 for P3D. These images are with ORBX Australia v2, however this is not required for these airports to work.

  7. This is an interesting question. Just to put another perspective on it. Technology and strategy.

We use to have hundreds more airbases but then as planes where able to fly further and faster we needed a lot less bases, but planes got bigger and more complex meaning our bases had to be bigger. Bigger bases need more people and resources to maintain them so larger bases near the bigger population centres become the thing.

Generally speaking our operational bases are more northern, and training bases more south. Edinburgh is an exception, although long range strategic aircraft need to be well protected in the defensive lines (with a battalion of infantry I might add).

When we had the F111 distance was nearly irrelevant, now that we don’t have a fast aircraft like it anymore, defence is ramping up the northern bases so that our reach and speed is not compromised. The Hornets and JSF are just not as invasive as the F111 was.

    Hi Joel,

    Thanks for your enquiry.

Did you add the frequency through the stand alone AFV client? Sometimes the ATIS in VATPAC airspace is quite touch and go and only works sometimes.

Hey Cam. I have tried again and again.

I go to ATIS in Euroscope, setup the text and connect. Then to the voice panel and deselect the voice that failed to connect. Then when I go to the stand along client add the position and freq it’s got no audio.

  9. Hey Callum

When pilots enter BN-ARA_CTR pilots need to be 200nm inside the airspace before reaching radio range.

The radio range is very small. Is this greater in RW or would their be another tower near Darwin. I’m guessing in RW this would be mostly covered by HF.

    Cheers

  10. The package would be Australia and New Zealand VFR and IFR.

The bit you get from AIP in OzRunways that you don’t get from the website is your aircraft GPS position in relation to the chart. Like google maps it opens the chart and puts your flight plan and your aircrafts position on the plate.

  11. The aerodrome Charts you can get from the ASA website, however some of the charts have geo locations to actually show your GPS position on that approach or departure.

The other plus is getting the enroute charts and the terminal charts. If you want to fly VFR around major airports it is an amazing tool to remain clear of controlled airspace. It also shows you all the VFR tracks which would encourage more people to be involved in the VFR events.
