  1. Considering your motherboard is running an FM2+ socket, you're gonna be quite limited unless you want to build a whole new system.

Here's what I'd recommend if you're looking for the easy way out:

    CPU: AMD - Athlon X4 860K 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Processor (~$250)

GPU: Asus - Radeon RX 570 4 GB ROG STRIX (~$300)

You can spend the rest of your budget on maybe an SSD or even P3D and some add-ons.

The GPU might not be compatible with your motherboard, best to take a look at PCPartPicker building your current PC, replacing the parts and seeing what warnings come up.

  2. VATPAC simply doesn't have enough traffic to warrant all real-world positions to be simulated:

    image.png.65c280cf9f671776eb3cc676177ec58f.png

(Bearing in mind, this is only ADS-B/MLAT traffic, not SSR only)

We simulate a good chunk of them to the point where it's still realistic (Sydney Approach assumes Centre and Terminal when they're out of the office) but adjust them for our needs and limitations as a simulation network for enjoyment, rather than an imitation service for... Roleplay?

There is no need to waste resources on sectors and positions we're never going to open up. Perth has a centre, but barely anyone flies in Perth on VATSIM. Darwin has two approach sectors, but barely anyone flies in Darwin. Avalon has its own approach sector, but barely anyone flies to Avalon. VATUSA and VATSIM-UK can get away with it because they have the traffic to warrant it.

  3. I still don't really see the point of booking systems imho.

It'll just cause a fuss for people who want to control, but don't want to commit to times. Traffic could be low and I could log off early. Traffic could be high and I could stay on later until it clears. that could go into someone else booking, then we start arguing about me being on their spot when they've booked it.

Then you have the tools who jump on your spot 0.000000000001524ms before you've booked it, thus stopping you from logging on...

The first come, first served basis has always been fair :)

  4. If I recall correctly, we used to have a booking system, but it didn't work out well.

I think a "notification" system would work out better, where ATC can say "I should be on this position from 0100z to 0300z, so expect some coverage", rather than booking and committing to a booking. It can cause arguments between controllers, Ie; not showing up for bookings, or showing up late, etc.

Bookings set an expectation to commit and can be easily abused.

  5. But in seriousness, EuroScope is designed to run on Windows. Wine has changed since the old EuroScope on MacOS post, thus the audio no longer works, and it's highly unstable.

Long story short, relying on a Toyota Corolla to carry a road train isn't always going to work without more effort than the alternative solution of just using a truck. (Getting EuroScope working on Fedora is significantly more effort than getting your battery problem fixed)

  6. I personally HATE Jeppesen charts with a roaring and firey passion, they make me sick :/ I find LIDO to be much cleaner, much more informative, and easier on the eyes.

I usually use the local charts provided by the actual countries aviation provider if Navigraph doesn't have any LIDO charts (#LIDOForLife<3). For Australia, that's AirServices Australia, NATS for the UK, FlightAware seems to have US charts on hand. Quick Google searches usually get good results, they may not be up-to-date, but I've never had an issue flying with Googled charts on VATSIM:

If you're looking for constant up-to-date charts, and specifically Jeppesen, then Navigraph is the best one... I can't think of any other option off the top of my head, and it's only $12.99/mo, comes with nav data for your aircraft, not to mention being around the same price as Spotify and Netflix.

  7. AirServices are very quickly rolling out INTAS (Integrated Tower Automation Suite), which replaces paper strips completely:

This is already active at Brisbane, Gold Coast, Rockhampton, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, and Broome, and will eventually be in all other major towers.

There is also already a plugin for EuroScope called vStrips, replicates this system down to the pixel. https://vstrips.co.uk/

Hey Eoin, I didn't receive that email, just confirming my email is t.duncombe(at)vatpac.org

Whoops, I misspelt your name by mistake!

I've got my calendar set, and am more than happy to fill in somewhere for Slot 3 if need be ;) *cough* Sydney Coordinator *cough*

  9. I can tell you from experience, isolating people who have struggles/difficulties, from those who don't, is not a good idea.

It has always brought out more harm than good.

Don't get me wrong, and don't take me the wrong way, it's a nice idea, but it's not something that plays out well in practice.

Following yesterdays outburst, is Tracy still a member of VATPAC Staff? If yes, how is that still possible? Is that an indication that his actions are somehow endorsed by the Board, Region and Network?

I feel the need to jump in here, as I was terminated and refused negotiation from the AIS position earlier this year for making a small humorous comment on a particular piece of software in a private forum. So if Tracy can stay after saying what he said in a public forum, and I can't after saying what I said in a private forum, then how in anyone's right mind is that fair.

  11. Hi Richie,

The TAAATS mod provides a custom font. This font is designed to work with the TAAATS Mod itself.

Both EuroScope 3.1d and EuroScope 3.2 share all the same files except for the .exe and .dll files. When the package is installed, it will overwrite the default EuroScope font file.

    It's not a bug, it's the intended behaviour ^_^

  12. Keeping the sequence steady into TAS was a challenge, lots of people so eager, they didn't listen to speed restrictions :P

My hat must go off to Ryan though for dealing with the insane amount of traffic :x

  13. Hi all,

Im selling a bunch of computer parts and thought I’d see if anyone here is interested.

    Heres what’s on offer:

    1. Corsair CX 750M

    Semi-modular power supply.

    Originally purchased in Janruary 2014.

    Perfect condition.

includes 2 daisy chained PCI-E power cables, 2 daisy chained SATA power cables, 2 daisy chained MOLEX power cables.

Been in service for 4 1/2 years, regularly tested, well maintained.

    2. Kingston Hyper-X Genisis DDR3 8GB kit (2x 4GB)

    Purchased in Janruary 2014.

Been in service for 4 1/2 years, tested regularly, well maintained.

    3. XFX Radeon R7700 series Graphics Card (2GB)

Nice graphics card all round, can run Battlefield 4 on high settings, P3Dv3 on fairly high settings, any source engine game on ultra high (except CS:GO, which will run nicely on High).

    Well cleaned.

    4. Gigabyte GeForce GTX 950 Windforce (2GB)

Same as above card, however P3D was prone to the DXGI error when switching focus to a window other than P3D. Other than that, good card. Originally purchased in April 2016, only ever used for 6 months (I switched back to the above card for P3D), can run Arma 3 and DayZ stand-alone on High settings.

Images attached. If anyone had any questions, feel free to ask, otherwise, please PM me if interested.
