Event Details
Simulation Date/Time : Current date set to daylight.
Weather : Real World / Fair weather if real world is unsuitable for VFR operations.
Distance : 125 nm
Est Flight Time : approx 75 mins
Aircraft : Single engine piston aircraft such as Cessna 172 or similar capable of 105 to 135 kias.
Altitude : Once clear of Cairns Control Zone remain clear of Cairns Class C steps until ready to return to Cairns
Flightplan
File as : YBCS WEST.VFR WAT LWI SNAPISL YWGA PTD MMY YYAK SDG YMBA SCRK YBCS
GPS Flightplan is available for FSX and X-Plane FMS and also provided is the original Plan-G flightplan for those that find this useful all enclosed within a Zip archive.
Navigation : Pilots familiar with the area can navigate visually, for those less familiar the accompanying GPS Flightplan is the recommended method of navigating the flight plan.
Communications : Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. Now that VATSIM has introduced AFV (Audio For VATSIM) CTAF can now be used across all VATSIM approved pilot clients. Pilots are requested to tune to the published frequency as detailed in the flight details for an event when operating in or around an aerodome to make and monitor CTAF broadcasts. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM COC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor Unicom (Australia 122.80). It is highly recommended that pilots ensure that at least one of their "on board" COM radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive unicom transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF frequency. Please Note. All pilots should also be vigilant regarding the receipt of text on both unicom and CTAF. If it is discovered there is a pilot participating that is unable to receive voice transmissions, pilots should arrange to also broadcast via text to ensure those pilots without the benefit of voice is able to receive appropriate broadcasts. VATSIM provides an update guide for getting AFV working on each of the approved pilot clients.
CAIRNS PROCEDURES
Cairns is a class C civil aerodrome. An excellent source of VFR procedural information for Cairns can be found in this CASA "Ontrack" video. Pilots unfamiliar with Cairns Operations are encouraged to view the video prior to operating within Cairns airspace.

This event began 03/02/20 and repeats every week on Monday until 03/22/20

By far the most popular of our regular weekly events, on any given Milk Run Monday you'll find the famous "J-Curve" between Melbourne and Sydney well serviced by both pilots and ATC.
Not to be confused with our Spilled Milk Run Monday events, details of which can be found on the Spilled Milk Run page, the Milk Run invites you to fly in any direction between Sydney and Melbourne and all destinations in between (Canberra, Albury etc).
Prefer to control? We recommend getting in early. ATC positions on Milk Run Monday are often scarce so definitely worth being an early bird.
Traffic levels traditionally start to pick up at around 7:30pm AEST / AEDT and generally peak between 8:30pm and 9:30pm AEST / AEDT.

This Weeks Flight for Wednesday 4th March 2020 starting at 8.30pm AEDT replicates in part the relief flights into Berlin following partition of Berlin after WW2. There were three corridors from West Germany across East German territory to West Berlin agreed at the Potsdam Conference between western allies and Russia. Each corridor was 32kms wide and Templehoff and Tegal airports both in West Berlin were within a 32km diameter circle. There was also an UK airbase, RAF Gatow on the edge of Berlin within the middle corridor however was not used much in the airlifts.

NB: Flight can be flown VFR (if you know the region) but for realism should be flown using instruments tuning to NDB's etc.
Flight created by YMA555
Airlift departs Wiesbaden AFB which at the time was one of the main airlift departure airfields (ETOU) via the southern Frankfurt-Berlin corridor to GED NDB 110.8 and FUL NDB 112.1 arriving Berlin-Templehoff (EDDI). Templehoff is now closed however for the purposes of this flight has been re-opened by Angela Merkel as a special occasion utilising the following scenery:

Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields.
