Hi all,
I'm looking for a small number of general VATPAC members to provide insight and contributions towards our new Air Traffic Services policy.
This policy will replace and combined the following existing policies into 1 document:
- ATC Training Policy
- Controller Information and ATIS Policy
- Controller Positions and Ratings Policy
- Procedural Tower Policy
- Senior Controller Policy
The policy will incorporate a number of changes to align with the new VATSIM GCAP and we anticipate that the policy will be effective on release/in conjunction with the VATSIM GCAP.
We aim to ensure the policy is clear, consice, descriptive, modern and will shape the way that VATPAC air traffic services will be provided into the future.
If you are interested in being involved, please send me an email at [email protected] and provide me with a short paragraph about your VATSIM/VATPAC experience and history. You will preferably be ATC rated (but no specific rating or endorsement is required).
You will join myself and members of the ATC Training & Standards team to form a small working group. This will also form part of the consultation with general membership as per our constitution 50 (2). We expect you to be able to volunteer 1-3 hours per week to contribute to discussions and writing documentation.
I look forward to hearing from those of you that are interested!
EOI's close 11:59 AEST Sunday 29th August.

Well that's not very obvious is it? What the hell does "Agent" mean?
Lol. Chill. Miscommunication and obviously an issue with language in the theming. Hopefully the issue is resolved.

Membership department?
On 8/8/2021 at 11:49 PM, Adam Hammond said:- What departments do we want to have (current department list below)? Note: there seems to be an annoying quirk where you can't transfer tickets directly to sub-departments).
Why the public vs private departments? Is there a specific purpose for this?

That list looks fine. Default support ticket (general) should go to membership department as above.
15 hours ago, Adam Hammond said:I'll tag you in on this one, do you know what the behaviour is meant to be when using the VATSIM Connect plugin?
Did you resolve this? You've striken it out from your bug list.

Personally I always treat it as CTAF.
I am the same. Procedural towers are not always active IRL and I treat offline procedural towers on VATSIM the same. Treated as a CTAF and whatever service is approprirate down to the E-LL or C-LL (usually somewhere between A045 and A085).

Please convey my appreciation to all controllers for the very successful Spilled Milk Monday YBBN-YBCS.
Full ATC over such a large distance for an amazing amount of time.
Hats off in particular to YBBN GND controller who managed to issue clearances for domestic and international flights while simultaneously getting us all to two different runways.

Not sure what department this is really supposed to go under, but I just wanted to provide some positive feedback for James Hennell! Great bloke, clear instructions, very professional controller. Really spiced up the evening flying with him.

Hi all,
Last week Callum approached me about taking some time away from VATPAC. Whilst I didn't really want Callum to leave his volunteer staff roles, I know from personal experience that taking some time away from this stuff is invaluable.
Callum has been contributing many, many hours of his daily life for the past 4 years in many different roles, but most importantly as a Division Director. Callum's leadership of the Division out of a somnewhat turbulent period was invaluable and I know all of us here today appreciate the work he put in. I still often turn to Callum for guidance when thinking about VATPAC related problems and ideas, for his expertise and passion that he has for this community.
Callum has also been an even longer member of the ATC Training department, where I'm sure a number of you have spoken or had interactions with him as you progressed through your ATC Ratings. I know his experienced will be missed, but it will also give opportunities for other members of our community step up and give back, just like Callum did so often.
Of course, Callum was also very passionate about making the VATPAC Discord work and most of his recent volunteering hours have been spent dealing with a few absolute peanuts, who's sole life purpose has been to be disruptive. I wouldn't wish the Discord Administrator role to anyone at the moment. I hope our community can remember that yes, this is very much a game, but every person we are interecting with are very real people. Sometimes we forget that and Callum bore the brunt of these actions over the last 6 months.
So I know that Callum won't be online very much in the next little while, but on the rate occasion that you do see him flying, controlling or on the Discord then please, thank him for his service to our community.
I'm sure he'll be back soon.
Thank you, Callum!

Just wanted to provide some very positive feedback on some terrific work done by Blake McClelland (1063446) this afternoon providing ATC at ML TWR.
His professionalism in communicating and handling traffic was beyond perfection; displayed great knowledge, and made exceptional judgment calls to ensure traffic flowed smoothly. Co-ordination was made perfectly with other controllers and I was very impressed by the service provided! Well done Blake! And a huge shout out to the mentor and trainer for this great man! Well done again, Blake! Looking forward to fly in your airspace again and also control with you in the near future!

Zach has been controlling all week and I've been in his airspace a few times. Have to say he is a very competent controller, he knows what he is doing. He was always 2 steps ahead of the game. He doesn't get mad at people for making mistakes on the frequency and was very accommodating to some new pilots. 10/10

Hi all,
Steven Cullen will be moving to fill the Director of Airspace and Publications portfolio, a position which both the board and Steve felt he was better suited to.
Consequently, I would like to welcome Blair Shaddock to the VATPAC Board. Blair will be taking on Acting Director of Membership, in a probationary capacity for the next 6 months. You will see some of Blair's hard work over the last 6 months very shortly!
I'd also like to specially mention Luke Maynard who will be continuing in the Membership Manager role, working with Blair and also assisting Steve with Airspace/Publication related tasks. Luke is also a highly-valued member of our events team.
If you are interested in giving back to our small community of enthusiasts, then please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly and I'm sure we can get you involved in some capacity.
Cheers!

Nothing bad to say just wanted to state that TAS Center done by Brett Vaughan at around the time of 0540 (UTC) on Saturday the 29-05-2021 was done very nicely. Very cheerful and easy to talk to whilst keeping a very professional standard. Felt very realistic to the easy-going MEL/TAS center IRL. Very well done and would like to see him controlling more often!

Just want to say how brilliant Dylan was today (14/05/21). When I was having serious issues with my sim and a/c and basically wandering all over the sky, he took it his stride with good humour and patience and managed to get me back towards the runway for a successful (if hideous) landing.
Top bloke.

That is indeed the case. Anybody who had breached our Discord policy has been dealt with in accordance with the policy.
There are still ongoing teething issues and we are still discussing the best way forward for a pemanent solution, so that this shutdown doesn't have to happen again.
Thanks.

I have fixed the error, apologies!

Andrew did a great job on Melb Snowy duing milkrun on the 8th Feb. Handled everything stress free sorting out the traffic into Melbourne, arrivals and departures from other airfileds in the centre area along with some pilots from other countries who joined in for the fun filled night. While all the other controllers did a great job as they always do, it just happened to be a very busy time when I hit snowy and Andrew had a lot happening at once and handled it very professionally. Thanks to all for another enjoyable milkrun.
Oceanic Partnership - US to leave
in News

Hi everyone.
Whilst I can't share the specifics of our discussions, I'd like to share a few facts with the community about the recent VATUSA announcement to leave the Pacific Oceanic Partnership.
VATPAC and VATNZ are currently reviewing the Partnership Agreement with respect to existing agreement still being in force and the effect on our controllers.
If you have any concerns about this change, please feel free to reach out to me or Andrew (VATNZ Director) directly.
Thanks.
