  1. I regret to announce that today, Harrison Scott has resigned as Director I.T due to time commitments.

On behalf of the entire VATPAC Board, I would like to thank Harrison for the countless hours that he has put into VATPAC during his tenure. I thank him for his contributions to the I.T department over the last twelve months and the changes he has brought. Harrison will remain as a mentor in the ATC Training department and we wish him all the best as he continues in this capacity.

In the interim Steve Brown will be acting while the recruitment process is undertaken, thanks Steve.

Thanks from a grateful community Harrison!

  2. G'day Kirk,

Thanks for the suggestion, I like the idea of something during the day but I know a lot are interested in coming for the dinner and catch-up, So I am  trying to think of options here as I like both. I have a lunch time event in Canberra then driving up so I wont be there until late afternoon but don't let that spoil any idea.

Like the idea so happy to discuss options and see what people think and can up with.

    Thanks again

    Scott

  3. G'day All,

As I have mentioned in a previous post I would like to invite anyone who can make it to a well overdue catch up and dinner on Saturday the 1st of December at the Brighton Le Sands RSL club in Sydney.

This club is a stones throw away from Sydney Airport and there is plenty of accommodation close by. I'm sure anyone flying in we can arrange a pickup and drop off.

The night will be very informal with dinner and drinks and putting names to faces and hopefully some laughs.

If you are interested in attending please email me at [email protected] so I compile a list for numbers.

Any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.

    Kind Regards

    Scott

  4. G'day All,

As you may have seen I took some leave due to ill health. Late last month I ended up in hospital with Pneumonia so it has taken a while to get fully back on my feet which took longer than I had hope as I had a relapse.

I would like to thank Alan and the Board for keeping everything moving while I was out of action.

A Board meeting has been delayed from earlier this month to this Wednesday so after that Ill post the minutes for you all to see.

I have been getting lots of emails with you feedback and suggestions, Please keep them coming as I encourage your suggestions and thoughts no matter how out of the box or left field they can be. Some of the best ideas come from simple ideas!

As always my email is always open [email protected] and I'm always happy to hear from members both new and old

Also a reminder the recently advised role of Director Events VATPAC 5 closes on the 9th September

    Cheers

    Scott

  6. Evening All,

it is with a tinge of sadness and disappointment  that I have to bring this topic up let alone write about it.

Over the weekend we witnessed a unacceptable meme directed at a fellow VATSIM member on the Discord which was  deliberate, insulting and  to be brutal derogatory. This meme was promptly removed and the member quickly dealt with.

I shouldn't have to remind members of the code of conduct and related polices pertaining to the use of all associated web based activities but it appears I do  as small number of members seem to either forget or don't care. To those members rest assured we are watching and will act.

The  majority of members comply and enjoy and participate in  the Vatpac community which is why we are here so I do apologise for having to raise this.

So keep it clean and friendly and respectable or maybe find another hobby as this is not what Vatpac is about.

    Cheers

    Scott

  7. Hi All,

Firstly thanks for all the congrats and best wishes over the last 24 hours its greatly  appreciated!

I thought id start off today with a re introduction as while I'm well known to a lot of members there are a lot  that I wouldn't be.

About me! I'm married with 3 kids 14,12, 10 I live in Canberra and I work in the Commonwealth Government  in a management role with responsibility for over 300 staff.

I joined Vatpac on day 1 back in 2001 and was previously  to that with SATCO back when we used dial up Roger Wilco and 127.0.0.01! (I think it was)

I have recently retuned after a stint on the sidelines with some pretty significant health issues in the form of Melanoma which I've now had twice in recent years. In this time I gave Vatpac and flying away as staying alive and my family was number 1. At one stage I was told I may have 12 -18 months to live so enjoying life was my only focus!  But with any luck I'm now ok and have returned refreshed.

As Tracy mentioned in a previous post Vatpac has been through a its toughest time over the last few months and as a result has left a lot of people very jaded to say the least.

I arrive with no baggage and no ill feelings so I'm aiming to return the overall feeling amongst members to enjoyment and mateship rather than the alternative.

In saying that I am readily available should anyone need assistance, advice, vent or just a chat!

Lastly I must thank Tracy and everyone who has assisted over the last few months. Hopefully as of today we can put it behind us and focus on 2 major things, mateship and enjoyment as life's is way to short.

I look forward to working with the board and members here at VATPAC.

    Cheers

    Scott

  8. Hi All,

Some very long term members will know my name but after a prolonged absence of nearly 10 years a lot wont be familiar with me or VH-ANA who have been around since the SATCO days! o.O

Due to a few personal reasons I've been away but today I decided to see if I could remember anything  and fired up CB_APP just to settle the nerves then thought id open up Bindook which was a real shock as its Gonnnnne!

Once I settled into Ml-WOL it was like the sirens had gone off and every pilot on the east coast decided it was a great idea to go for a fly. With no TWR or APP it really tested me but GOD I had some fun.

I do admit I was/am still rusty and referring to every chart I can find but its great to be back!

    Cheers

  9. Thanks Greg, I took the system back to pre installing the first attempt at FSX, did a fresh install and it now works!

Another question I tried to install the DVD version of Orbx but its coming up as not being able to find the FSX registry, I have installed both SP 1 and 2

    Any ideas?

  10. Thank god I'm not alone! I'm also tearing my hair out!

I brought a new PC with windows 8 this week, I installed FSX deluxe version only to have it crash after a few minutes. After consulting Google and the windows 8 compatibility site

I was informed I needed the Gold version which I brought today. So I set about uninstalling the original FSX by deleting it from the program files as I couldn't find the uninstaller (from memory I now think I should of run disk 1 and done it from there) Today I have tried to install the new version and it gets all the way to the end the gives me a error message

Failed to load DLL Game uxinstallHelper , Setup will now terminate. The error code is 0x80040702

Should I do a system restore to when I originally loaded in the 1st FSX and uninstall it through disk 1 and try again?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

  11. G, day all,

It's been a while since we last had a catchup and I'm sure we must have new pilots who have not as yet been lucky enough to meet Steve Young, John Lucas and myself!!

If interested please express a interest and we can start arranging something!

  12. Going to bed at 12.45am reminded me why I have 3 years off! Nothing much has changed, I had a A/C inbound from Taral on text who missed the intercept of the ILS while I had another A/C suddenly appear @ whale heading for the 34L as well all fun in a nights work

  13. G,day All,

After an absence of over 3 years I made a comeback to ATC tonight straight back to my old fav SY_APP. With a few nerves to keep me on my toes after 4 hours I was starting to feel right at home again. BIG thanks to the pilots tonight for their patience at the rookie on debut!

Also a big thanks to Scanno for a much needed refresher:eek:

  14. Hi All,

I just wanted to say G,day to my old regulars from the old day of Satco/Vatpac as I have been grounded by Alan Joyce for over 3 years now and can't remember when I was on here or even the last time I fired up VHANA.:(

With work and 3 young kids my flying as taken a back seat for a while but I hope to get back into ot at some stage.

    Cheers

    Scotty (VHANA)
