  1. What did Ryan do?  Was he terminated?

Generally when people depart we publicly thank them for their help, it encourages others to put up their hand, as well as being polite.

That post reads to me like "Ryan was naughty and we have removed him".  Even if he was, I think he deserves thanks for what he did do.

  2. Thanks Tracy and Joel,

My view is that this isn't the way I'd hope our community would go, and I say this in a closed forum.  It appears to me to be cloak and dagger.

I hope that we don't loose sight that this is a community group.  Significant appointments and announcements without member input will only harm what we have.  Whether we have authority or not, doesn't make it right in my eyes, and will lead to either less input from members or increased perceived conflict.  Other regions already suffer from a dictorial style in my view, and that is why we stood out.

Anyway, just wanted to voice my concern in a closed group, so that we aren't surprised if attitudes start changing.

  3. Tracy,

Thanks for taking on the role, and I hope that stability is one of the key principles for movement forward, as I believe we have the best Division within VATSIM, with VATNZ second. ;-0

What we have has been built block by block, and many people have been part of that process, not just 'staff', as I'm sure we all know.

I have just one question/concern since Joel's post on VATSIM last week.  Will official positions within VATOCE and its divisions now be by un-advertised appointment?  It appears that there have been several 'appointments' in the last week that have announced without calling for interested members.  This does not, and should not be read, as me saying any of these people don't have the skill or ability.  Advertising positions does several important things, in a inclusive environment.

  4. I wish there was a Pilot Training scheme based in Oceania, I did my P2 with VATSTAR and whilst I commend them in their dedication, it is very US (FAA) orientated.  They do allow self paced learning, and you can even just sit the exams.

On my P2 assessment my checker was concerned I had not just flown a straight in approach, when I did what I have always done and joined the circuit, making CTAF calls.  It has been the main reason why I have not progressed with P3 and 4.

  5. Zach,

I'm one for having a single page with all documents, and having them with release date visible eg

    MATS v2.1 (13JUL2017)

Then maybe a frame on the home page with a list of the last five documents updated, so that a quick view of what has recently changed.

At the moment, I have trouble looking for documents, as they seem to be spread under different tabs.  Could be me.....

  6. Closed forum, so this is for internal comment.  I don't frequent TS because I generally have it on PC speakers, and I will not have swearing in my house, just one of those funny little rules that I think draws the line. I did a couple of times and I had to mute the speakers.

I accept that it just isn't a place for 'no swearing' and probably never will be.

  7. I have done up a simple YHPT Hay Point Helipad, used mainly by VH-ZGP an EC135P3 (H135) which does the Marine Pilot transfers.

I've added the Helipad, main coal Wharf, several ships alongside and in the anchorage, and marine Nav aids.  This is not payware standard, and probably not even freeware standard, so please don't pick the eyes out of it.  Provided for those that enjoy helo work, and onto ships.

Again this is a simple scenery, but if anyone has suggestions, comments, etc I'm happy to hear.

    Download from www.vozsar.org/YHPT.zip

Once I get back from O/S I'll post Gladstone Harbour.  Just finished making my own 3D objects for the MSQ AtoNs.  Need some help with doing light effects for the lights.

  8. The Controller Positions and Ratings Policy provides that the upper sectors own between FL245 and FL600, which excludes airspace below FL245 including Class G. Therefore the upper sectors should not provide a traffic service to IFR aircraft.

The exception to this is provided by para 3.3.4.4, where an upper sector shall extend downwards to cover aircraft inbound to a TMA that is controlled by an approach service. Para 3.3.4.5 provides that an upper sector shall not extend its airspace in any other way.

Thanks guys, So given this is only a local policy, it could be changed to allow what VATSEA is doing?

  9. Are we able to negotiate the vertical boundaries of the controllers responsibility lower than FL245 into major airports to provide top down service?  I understand that we don't allow this now. (I believe anyway)

    I have looked t this announcement http://forums.vatpac.org/index.php/topic,11567.msg82580.html#msg82580

However, in more recent times I noticed that VATSEA has announced they are operating their ASEA_FSS covering ABV FL245, AND down to SFC at 14 Airports.  I reference this web site they recently posted for information of visitors.

    https://aseafss.wixsite.com/asea/coverage

So my question relates to, can we also do this through some further negotiations, or is it something we didn't want.

  10. Hell's Bell's Man! It sure is of use!  And thank you!

Now that I know what you've just told me things can advance.  I take it that the SID/STAR info is from the same sources?

And it's all someone else's data.  The tool only makes bulk changes quickly.

I haven't been anywhere, I offered a few times, but no-one has asked about them except for Peter.

  11. Sean,

Yessir they were indeed!  They are the foundation for the work being done.

Can you tell me what the sources for those VRC files were?  I would like to know and/or have access to the primary source material if at all possible.  I've trawled through what RAAF material I could find on line but the most recent info I could access was 2014 and it wasn't terribly helpful.

We're looking for things like an AIP (PNG wants $50 for theirs and the Fiji website is cactus); information on radar/ADSB coverage; SIDs & STARs. Does a TCU have any or does it not have any?  For example, there is a RTCC chart for AYPY; does this mean that AYPY TMA is radar controlled?  If so what is the range?  I have heard that Nadi has radar but O can't confirm it  and I'd like to if possible.

Vanuatu and New Caledonia both have AIPs on line so they're OK.

    Yep, did all that research.

FOR descriptions and radar ranges I used

2016 APR FIHI for PNG plus Cousins flys for NGA.  SSR is WI 200NM but not always reliable, and also the hills north shield most of the north side of the island.  APP handles CTA WI 50NM and BLW A150.  RADAR handles 50NM out to 200NM between A150 and FL460.  Both only operate 10hrs a day.

2015 OCT FIHI for New Cal, Solomons, Vanuatu.

FIJI has M-LAT is line of sight fm Nadi TWR, LOMOLOMO, DENARAU, NAGADO, and NAWAKA (all within 20NM of tower), and ADS-B RX at wider locations.

Don't believe anyone else has RADAR.

TWRs do have responsibility for out to 200Nm at the Non-Radar places which causes issue for replication on the network (MAX RNG TWR = 50NM)

FOR routes, waypoints I used SkyVector, manually recording every new waypoint for Pacific.  I believe this is 1704 version, It did take a lots of hours manually gathering all the data.  Shame it isn't of use.  I guess it is my old fashioned elbow grease, rather than using a tool to convert someones else data.

  12. There seems to be an increase in controllers who get concerned when I use mode stby when changing the assigned code.

I was taught that you never change the assigned code whilst in mode C (or transmitting in any way) because as you do so you could; although be it temporarily' be on someone else's discreet code, and the controller sees an ever changing code as the pilot; depending on familiarity with equipment; fumbles through to the new code.

I'm easy either way, So does VATSIM/VATPAC have a standard when it comes to transponder operations?

Does it matter that a pilot it actively changing codes whilst transmitting, or doesn't phase ES in the slightest?

  13. Thanks Rob.  I don't have Facebook so appreciate the posts here.

I have previously located a .bgl in the fsx/scenery sub-dir and then just removed it, that seemed to kill the default airport injection.
