  1. @Angus J - 1612559 thanks for sending that screenshot through, I've just hidden it from public view as it contains exam answers. It looks as if the form didn't give you a field to enter corrections for all of the necessary questions, so the form is considered invalid and the submit button is disabled.

I've refreshed your exam results, so would you please mind trying again? If that doesn't work, please send your corrections through to Matt at [email protected] and he can add them manually as a note on your training record.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  3. Hi Adam,

Just a quick question/suggestion from me, is it possible to have the user's CID displayed somewhere on their ticket (or even just in their user information)? While this mightn't be something that other departments would use alot, essentially all requests to ATC Training require us to use the user's CID to check something or other on their VATSIM account (stats, rating, division, study logs, etc.). It's sometimes difficult for us to find a CID from a name, especially if they're not in the Discord server or the ATC Academy. We can always just ask the user, but if it's possible to get this added to their profile, that would be great!

  4. Hi Naveen,

My name is Will and I am VATPAC's ATC Training & Assessment Manager. I have double checked the [email protected] inbox and can't seem to find any requests from you regarding how to become a visiting controller with VATPAC.

All of the information you'll need can be found at https://vatpac.org/controllers/visiting-controllers/. Once you've completed the theory exam, you'll be paired up with a mentor who'll help you become familiarised with controlling our airspace and ensure that you demonstrate the required competencies. After this, if your mentor is satisfied, they'll sign you off to control as a visiting controller.

Please note that you'll also need to meet the requirements listed in VATSIM's Transfer & Visiting Controller Policy prior to applying.

From here, you'll need to send an email to [email protected] with your request to sit the exam. We will review your eligibility and issue the exam from there. If there is anything else I can help with, please don't hesitate to ask.

    Regards,
    Will Smart

  5. On behalf of the whole ATC Training team, I would like to wish all VATPAC members a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎉

This year has truly been a year like no other. So far, we've awarded 94 rating upgrades (exactly double the amount awarded last year) with 43 in Q2 alone. This would not be possible without an amazing team of mentors and instructors, and I would like to thank them for their continued commitment above and beyond expectations this year, and for welcoming the next generation of virtual Air Traffic Controllers to the VATSIM skies!

In recognition of all of the team's hard work, the training department will be having a break for two weeks from 19 December 2020 until 4 January 2021. During this time, there will be a pause on issuing exams, processing exam results and issuing rating upgrades. If you have already been assigned a mentor, they may choose to continue offering sessions during this period, however there is no expectation that mentoring sessions be conducted. Assessments may also be conducted, but in case of a competent result, a rating upgrade will not be processed until after the break.

If you are nearing completion of your self-directed study, I would encourage you to use this additional time to further your understanding of the theory materials and conduct some further observation of controllers on the live network.

I would like you to join me in thanking our training team once again for all of their hard work, and we look forward to welcoming new ATC trainees in the New Year.

    Cheers,
    Will Smart

Just wanted to provide some excellent ATC feedback for Mark Bernardinis this evening as SYD APP. He was inundated with a lot of traffic in and around the Sydney area, similar with MRM events with no TWR, GND or CTR positions available, as well as with emergency requests from aircraft arriving and departing SYD, including other unidentified aircraft in the area, he handled all scenrios extremely well and very professional. Under no circumstances was he ever distracted by the overwhelming aircraft calling together on radio and also other aircraft calling for clearances ... I was very impressed by his professionalism. Take care of this great man, and a huge congrats to the great trainer as well. I also loved his follow up, especially when leaving his airspace and other aircraft that also called in the backlog of requests and going the extra mile to ensure smoothness in seperation and that all arrivals and departures were perfectly sequenced and communicated and handled well. Amazing ATC ... great example of what VATPAC ATC controlling is all about! Will fly anywhere with this great controller!

    Great job @Mark Bernardinis & mentor @Brett Vaughan !!!

I was flying between Gunnedah and Wodonga this evening on the network. The service I received from James Hennell was great! His professionalism and composure was admirable and I think that everyone should be aspiring to meet the level he set on the network. Thank you for your service James!

    Great work James!

    ATC Training Staff Update

Over the past two months, three of our staff members, Sam Keast, Tracy Shiffman and Nick Falcione resigned from their roles in the training team and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the work they put in to produce some of the best quality controllers on the VATSIM network. Thanks Sam, Tracy and Nick!

With their resignation, we are now looking for members interested in joining the ATC Training team as mentors! If you're passionate about having an impact on the next generation of virtual controllers, please consider applying. More information can be found here.

What's Happening in the Department at the Moment?

    Procedural Tower Course

The current procedural tower endorsement course on the ATC Academy was written in 2014, so we thought it was time for an update! For the past couple of months, Brett Vaughan & Matt Kelly have been putting together an all new procedural tower endorsement course with a bunch of refreshed content and many new videos to accompany it. Take a look at the video below for a sneak peek at what we’ve got in store

The course is still a work in progress, but we’re on track for a Q4 release this year. If there’s anything you’d like to see in or contribute to the course, please get in touch!

    vatSys

Over the past 4+ years, one of the members of our community, Jake Saw, has been developing an all new controller client based on the real-world systems that are currently in use in Australian airspace. It offers heaps of new features beyond the current system of Euroscope with TAAATSmod, such as realistic map projections, text to speech ATIS, lateral conflict probing, a new G2G coordination system, integration with AFV, and many, many, many more. In the last 12 months, Zach Biesse-Fitton has been working closely with Jake on the alpha testing process, bug squashing and a few cool integrations that everyone will appreciate! Without stealing too much of Jake & Zach's thunder, the client is in a beta testing stage and nearing the point where it will be ready for a public release! Keep your eyes on the forums and Discord for further information.

    Have you considered controlling?

Have you even been flying on VATSIM and thought about what it might be like on the other side of the scope? Why not find out for yourself and become a controller! To get started, have a look at this page on the VATPAC website. If it sounds interesting, head over to the ATC Academy and enrol! If you need any help at any stage, please send us an email at [email protected].

  12. Hi Craig,

If you're able to login with VATSIM SSO using your CID & password, then it's weird that Euroscope won't connect to the network using the same credentials. I know people who have had issues logging in via SSO, but have been able to connect to the network fine and this is usually due to SSO being case-sensitive while the network is not (I think).

To help try and identify where the issue is, have you tried connecting to the network using another client such as xPilot or VRC? If that doesn't work, then I'd say it's likely that there's either an issue on the network side, or that you've inadvertently made a mistake when copying your credentials.

    Hope this helps!

  13. Hi Darryl,

If your account is linked, this means that you are a member of the VATPAC Discord Server and it should be popping up on your servers list when you log in to discord. If you have more than one discord account, the username of the account linked to the VATPAC server is shown at discord.vatpac.org.

If you're unable to log in to that account, let me know and I'll see if there is a way to unlink your account.

  14. The only dumb question is a question that isn't asked. The moodle course for TAAATSMod does still exist, however many of the images seem to be broken so it might be a little difficult to fully understand what the text is trying to say. As a new client specific for Australian ATC is currently being developed, we have chosen not to revise the course materials and fix all the missing images. But if you've got any specific questions that the course doesn't answer, please feel free to post here on the forums or email anyone on the VATPAC Training Team!

  15. Not a coverage issue as such, but I feel as if it is a data issue of some sort.

I logged on to ML-TBD_CTR this morning with an extension to Snowy. I found that pilots contacting me on the Snowy frequency could communicate with me fine, but those on the Tailem Bend frequency could not hear me and I couldn't hear them either. This is what popped up in the AFV Client:

    image.png.2e873c7c58139a2a5f90e2b25586adf2.png

I tried restarting the client and had no luck there. To fix the issue, I had to manually add ML-TBD_CTR and select TX & RX on that. If ML-SNO_CTR was not selected, then the transceiver count went down to 0.

  16. I thought the Departure positions at both Sydney & Melbourne were non-standard and hence cannot be opened without the prior approval of a Senior Staff member or a Senior Controller? I had a look at the calendar entry for MRM and can't find anything suggesting otherwise.

In any case, the traffic levels do not usually dictate the need for a director/departure position. Even if it was warranted it is likely that there would be Senior Staff member logged on during the event anyway to approve the opening of a non-standard position.
