By far our most popular of all the weekly events, on any given Monday you'll find the famous "J-Curve" between Melbourne and Sydney well serviced by both pilots and ATC. Not to be confused with out Spilled Milk Run Monday events held on the last Monday of every month, pilots can expect ATC services as you fly between Melbourne and Sydney, or any destination in between (Canberra, Albury etc). Traffic Levels usually begin to pick up around 0800z and peak between 0900-1030z. Routes: We recommend the following routes between Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney. After the controller roster is released on Saturday evening, no controllers will be added to the roster. Positions that do not have a nominated controller (i.e. no controller assigned on the position) will remain free for all controllers available on the day to control. *Non-Standard positions* will be available for opening depending on traffic levels. They may only be opened once all of the rostered positions are filled. Please see a member of the Board of Directors, or a C3 rated controller to be granted permission to open a non-standard position. 3. It is with regret to the community that I advise Mr Russell Diehl has expressed his wishes to step back from the role of VFR Operations due to personal commitments in the new year. I want to take the time to let the community in on a little bit of insight to Russell over the past year and a half I have personally worked with him. Russell is a forward thinker, someone who sees a need and fulfils that need. During Russell's time as the VFR Operations coordinator, he has been as moldable and adaptable to situations as they come. Russell was and is a breeze to work with, during my time as the Deputy of Special Events, Russell provided insight from a pilots perspective directly to the Events Team, and more recently has acted as a bridge between the Events Team and the community in the proceeding years. Russell is someone that will be deeply missed by the Events Department and indeed the entire VFR Operations group. Russell will remain as the VFR Operations coordinator until the 31st January 2021. If you are interested in the role of VFR Operations Coordinator within the events team, reach out to Joshua via [email protected]

  17. Cross the Ditch 19: Summer 2020 It's been a long long year, but on VATSIM there are some things you can still count on. In the first weekend of December pilots from every corner of the globe will descend upon Australia and New Zealand to continue their undaunted quest to Cross the Ditch! Check out the official Cross the Ditch website Apply to provide ATC Book your Flights now! View the Event Schedule Check out the Virtual Airline Leaderboard Grab the recommended add-on scenery for each of the event airports What's it all about? For twenty hours this December, the skies over the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand will be filled with aircraft all on a mission to Cross the Ditch. An example of that typical down-under understatement, this "ditch" is over 1100nm wide. The flight routes all range from three to three-and-a-half hours flight time. Throughout the event, the Oceania region's two divisions – VATNZ and VATPAC – will be providing full ATC coverage, in the Southern Hemisphere's premiere oceanic event. This is a great opportunity to experience Oceanic flying without the need to commit to an eight-hour flight! If you're new to Oceanic Flying, our reporting tool makes taking part a breeze. Event Times This twenty hour event is timed to allow pilots from all over the world to join the fun: UTC: Saturday 5th December 2020 17:00 - Sunday 6th December 2020 13:00 AEDT: Sunday 6th December 2020 04:00 - Monday 7th December 2020 00:00 NZDT: Sunday 6th December 2020 06:00 - Monday 7th December 2020 02:00 Four airports, fully staffed For this season's event, VATNZ and VATPAC are both staffing two airports from 6am to midnight local time. Pilots simply pick one of the airports and then fly to either of the two airports in the other division. The result is eight routes simultaneously crossing the Tasman, with ATC coverage for all of them. This event will be Conga-line free! It isn't possible to complete all eight routes in the one day, but shrewd pilots should be able to complete the Four Airport Challenge by operating a valid Cross the Ditch flight through all four airports during the event. The Four Airports for Cross the Ditch 19 - Summer 2020 are: VATNZ - New Zealand Queenstown (NZQN) Wellington (NZWN) VATPAC - Australia Gold Coast (YBCG) Melbourne (YMML) Calling all Pilots and Controllers Flight plans are available from the Flight Plans section. Book your flights now from the Flight Bookings page. Bookings made on this site help us plan for the event, and will also show up in vroute. Controllers wanting to get in on the action can also apply now at the event's ATC Applications page.

VATPAC invites you to a Real Operations event featuring Perth as the host airport. Fly in or out of Perth to a huge selection of locations the aerodrome services on a daily basis. Whether you prefer a short FIFO run, a run from the Eastern Coast or a long haul trip starting with or ending with full ATC, this event is for you! What is Real Ops? Real Ops Perth is a major event hosted within VATPAC's airspace on the VATSIM Network. This 8-hour event aims to closely replicate and simulate the real schedules of Perth airport. This year we have decided to open and dedicated 8 hours of full time controlling to capture the peak arrivals and departures for Perth, we have based these slot times on a typical weekend schedule. We have provided documentation for this event to assist with the smooth operations of this event. This document will be released to the public in the final few days before the event. How does it work? To simulate Perth's real-world environment, we have carefully laid out slot times for Pilots to book, these slot times are replicated from the real world to the best of our ability. A pilot will need to secure their slot before logging onto the network, if a Pilot decides to logon to the network without a slot they will need to contact Perth Delivery to receive clearance which will be given based on an available slot, if a pilot is inbound from another Airport into Perth you will be accommodated secondary to aircraft who have booked slot times. Event Details: Real Ops Perth is designed to allow pilots and controllers the ability to receive full ATC service as they transition in and out of the west coast’s largest airport. Fly either domestically or internationally as you hurtle your way to/from the airport! The possibilities are endless. Throughout this event, ATC will be tasked at keeping appropriate separations standards whilst pilots move about the TMA and ground joining the arrival and departure streams. The challenge is to keep Perth busy for the entire event! We can only do that with heaps and heaps of pilots! All VATPAC, VATNZ and Visiting Controllers may apply for a position to control at this event, we intend on splitting the 8 hours into 2-3 shifts depending on the traffic load and ATC applications. To apply for ATC please visit the link below. Apply for ATC here! Dependent on the number of ATC Applications will ultimately persuade the number of controller positions that are eventually published and rostered. Positions that are planned to be rostered are below. Login Identifier: Radio Callsign: Frequency: PH_DEL Perth Delivery 118.550 PH_GND Perth Ground 121.700 PH-E_GND* Perth Ground 122.200 PH_TWR Perth Tower 127.400 PH_APP Perth Approach 123.600 PH_DEP* Perth Departures 118.700 ML-ESP_CTR Melbourne Center 123.950 ML-PIY_CTR* Melbourne Center 133.900 PH-FLW_CTR* Positions denoted with a '*' are non-standard and may not be rostered on the day. Booking System: VATPAC is proud to announce the return of a slot booking system. To book your flight(s), please visit the booking site here. Aircraft Slots have been created to simulate real-world schedules (To the best of our ability). One month prior to the event (15NOV20), slots will be opened for booking. Pilots may choose more than one slot to book if their arrival or departure slot times do not overlap. Once your slot is booked, and flights are confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email, please read over this to ensure the information is correct. Bookings will close two days prior to the event (18th December) unless booked out prior to this date. 24 hours prior to the event commencement, you will receive the following information by email: - Confirmed Slot Time including take-off time. - Confirmed Route. - All Documentation. Important Pilot Information - Please read the Pilot Briefing, this will include important airspace information including ATC flow and who to contact. - Please make sure you login with the correct Callsign at least 20 minutes prior to slot time. - Please ensure you are using your assigned route, these routes are based on real-world, if you cannot use your assigned route please email [email protected] or converse with Delivery on the day. - Please be courteous, if for some reason you miss your slot we will endeavour to fit you in. - If you decide to fly without a slot please note, we will do our best to fit you in however there may be lengthy delays. Whether you like to fly IFR in a commercial jet or small turboprop, or VFR in a smaller private aircraft, this is the event for you. Enjoy the beautiful scenery that NSW and the Gold Coast offer within your simulators! What is East Coast Connect? Similar to Milk Run Monday, East Coast Connect is where pilots fly between Sydney Kingsford Smith (YSSY), Brisbane International Airport (YBBN) and Gold Coast International Airport (YBCG). Expect full ATC Coverage between 0730z and 1130z, as we attempt to fill the MDE and DOS airspace with as many aircraft as possible!
